Although it is not a common task, but I mention that the improved search makes it harder to create subpages for community pages, which is necessary when someone would like to translate them. The search now offers to create them under the prefix of a test wiki, so I have to make a draft page with the correct name that I want to use and start editing following that red link. (To see what I mean, try to enter Incubator:News/de into the search box, and you will see that it will not be offered to create the page under that name.) - Xbspiro 23:42, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't notice your comment because it was not really below on this page :-) Anyway, I know the search is far from perfect, but what you can do temporarily is to enter "Incubator" in the "testwiki" input above the page suggestion. But it's certainly on my to do list to make it take into account the given . SPQRobin 19:09, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Was quite simple, fixed in r110747. SPQRobin 13:05, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Template A/B testing

I forgot whether it was already mentioned somewhere here, but there is a project on meta, m:Template A/B testing in order to make "experiments with Wikipedia templates, especially user talk templates delivered via bots"; in other words, it is tested if people react better to one version of a template than another. See m:Template A/B testing/Draft space for examples.

Now, someone listed Incubator there as a wiki where the usage was "proposed". Therefore, I'd like to start a discussion about whether/where we could make use of it. My opinion: The only occasion when we approach users with a standardized template is the automatic welcome when they register. We could make more versions of it (e.g. with different formulations, appeals etc.) and test that. Useful or not? How good, do you think, is the resonance to our Welcome?

Additionally, I have the idea that we could also test different styles of Manual / Documentation, but that is not done through user talk template messages, so probably unrelated here [I didn't really dig deep into the technical details of this]. --MF-W {a, b} 21:49, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that we could test different styles. Useful. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 21:33, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have some ideas for the styles? --MF-W {a, b} 21:18, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, but I think that different styles would be a good idea. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 11:33, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Then we have the same opinion :-) I'll see whether I can make different styles in the next days. --MF-W {a, b} 21:55, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 00:53, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

See Template:Welcome-template/Variants for some ideas I had. Feel free to edit/add/remove. --MF-W {a, b} 01:50, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for starting this! I'm going to go ahead and set up the infrastructure needed to test and document everything, and (if that's okay) make some edits or suggestions on templates myself. Cheers, Steven (WMF) 22:16, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm done with the logistics. All we have to do is finalize the template variants, move them to the individual templates (yet to be created) which are listed at Template:Welcome-template-rand, and then pick a start/end date. Steven (WMF) 23:36, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So about the SOPA protest on enwiki. So how about adding a sitenotice stating that the en wikipedia is on "strike". This might affect some wikis that take info from en.wiki. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 21:46, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It will be:

I made it a one-sentence notice. Incubator is a very low-volume site and I would rather not "interrupt" the few users we have with such a banner. SPQRobin 16:39, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with pipe characters

--Awkiku 10:03, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everybody, it seems that under certain conditions pipe characters (|) are added at the beginning of internal links even when they are already there : see this diff, which breaks the internal links and completely messes up the page. I feel like this could come from the Addprefix gadget, but does someone know more about that and could be able to fix the bug ? --Awkiku 10:03, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Le gadget ajoute 2 au lieu d'un. Je ne suis pas bon au js, alors demande un utilisateur listé comme administrateur. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 11:53, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

How can we create and use templates on a test-wiki ? Thanks you, Amqui 12:22, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

By creating them in the template namespace, but with a prefix in their title, e.g. Template:Wn/li/Image label. You can use them then with the code . --MF-W {a, b} 15:38, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Should I include the namespace again after Wp/mic/ (ex: Template:Wp/mic/Template:Image label) ? i.e. Will the pages will be move in the Template namespace when the wiki will be created if I don't include it after Wp/mic/ ? Amqui 18:03, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, Template:Wp/mic/Image label is sufficient. This page is already in the template namespace then. When mic.wikipedia.org will be created, only the "Wp/mic/" will be removed from the page names, so you will get "Template:Image label". --MF-W {a, b} 18:28, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good, thanks you. Maybe it's because I don't know where to look, but it doesn't seem to talk about that in the Help pages. Amqui 18:51, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Do you know a bot who can rename a page with all its sub-pages (and maybe delete or add the delete template on the old page) ? Amqui 18:53, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible for administrators to rename a page with all subpages. I can do it for you. --MF-W {a, b} 19:20, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Wp/mic/Template:Pictures to Template:Wp/mic/Random picture (with numbered sub-pages) please and delete all redirects. Thanks you and sorry for that extra work. Amqui 19:22, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Don't worry, that only cost me 2 clicks. --MF-W {a, b} 19:39, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question again. How can I add some div classes in the Mediawiki's Common.css for a wiki in the incubator ? I think it would also make sense to translate those so we can start including them in the good language in the articles before the creation of the real wiki. I was thinking of adding a section at the end of the global Common.css of the incubator for Wp/mic, but I would need admin rights to be able to edit it and it'll have to be imported manually once the mic.wiki is created. Is there a way to have one for the wiki in the incubator ? Amqui 01:42, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What code? Also, I'll be finding a way. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 10:48, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm talking about the MediaWiki:Common.css for some of the classes that we can include in <div class="blabla">. Amqui 14:05, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not quite sure whether it's possible to define things in commons.css just for one test wiki... I assume you meant that the class would receive a name in Micmac and would (preferably) only be used in wp/mic? Could you say what a class you have in mind? --MF-W {a, b} 17:54, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What CSS would you like to add? Also note that it is technically possible to create test wiki specific style pages ("Wp/xyz/MediaWiki:Common.css/js"), if there is much demand for that. SPQRobin 20:29, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For the moment the classes I have in mind are the one under /* BANDEAUX D'AVERTISSEMENT */ in French wiki Common.css, maybe that's only because I'm used to use them. But as it is going I can see the need for new ones arise. Amqui 21:30, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So... ? Amqui 21:43, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Translate extension

Recently the Translate extension, from translatewiki.net, has been installed on MetaWiki and MediaWiki.org to facilitate translation. Do you agree with installing it here as well, for our documentation pages like Help:Manual, Help:FAQ and also e.g. Main Page? Regards, SPQRobin 18:41, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, please. Maybe someday, MediaWiki translations could be done this way too, eliminating the "translator" userright. Also for the wikis, so going to another site is unessesary. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 20:10, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
bug 34213 submitted. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 19:51, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this extension is going to help us quite a bit regarding translations, as the translators can translate string by string, and not translating the entire page. However, it doesn't look like it will eliminate the translator userright, as per the original translatewiki.net, but yes its going to be very useful :) --Hydriz 10:48, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it will, because it will be implemented as on Meta, so anyone can translate. See mw:Help:Extension:Translate/Page translation administration. The most important advantage is that it will make updating translations easier (=fuzzy). SPQRobin 11:49, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's enabled now. SPQRobin 15:28, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have prepared the translation copies for Help:Manual and Incubator:Main Page. I'm announcing it here as the translations of the pages will need lots of work after. Is it fine to continue? Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 21:34, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should still wait at least for Main Page, because it has a complex structure with templates etc. This should only be moved to the Special:Translate system when we are sure that it is working properly and have tested it already on other pages, like Help:Language support. --MF-W {a, b} 21:50, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So for Help:Manual, it's okay? We are testing it on LangSupport and for now it's working fine. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 21:54, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be proceeding. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 23:24, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We have several pages now converted to using the new translate feature, it may be good to stop here for now as we need to update translations and as it is also a chance to update some documentation/pages. Please also do not mark pages such as I:RFD for translation because each time someone edits the page, it would need to update all translations. So I'm going to remove the translation there. It may be better to integrate policy stuff on I:P where it can be translated. SPQRobin 02:03, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For pages like I:RFD, it could be made into a header to translate, and use noinclude tags. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 12:19, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't been here for a couple of months but now I have to say WOW. This is a very nice feature indeed. - Xbspiro (talk) 09:33, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could you tell me what Special:MyLanguage is used for? - Xbspiro (talk) 09:38, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"Special:MyLanguage/Page_name" goes to the translated version of Page_name according to your user language (if there's no version in your user language, it will just go to the default English version). SPQRobin (talk) 18:51, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Possible minor bug (or maybe it is just a refresh problem): the translation counter stucks on 0% when translating MediaWiki pages. For example in the case of MediaWiki:Featuredwikis-active/hu, the counter is still at 0% after purge and reload. (The Special:Translate originally offered to translate MediaWiki:Featuredwikis-active/1/hu, which now seems to be empty, and MediaWiki:Featuredwikis-active/Page display title/hu. After translating the first one, the Special:Translate automatically redirects to MediaWiki:Featuredwikis-active/hu. It is not clear for me why it is necessary to offer two choices when there is actually just one.). - Xbspiro (talk) 02:29, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really understand the problem. The counter seems to be updated by now. The "page display title" message is useless, it's there because we cannot disable translating page titles. Also, in the future please add new comments to old topics at the bottom of this page, otherwise it might not get seen :-) Regards, SPQRobin (talk) 18:51, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vep-wiki administration

Hello. This Wiki opened some days ago, but it has no administrators. I think stewards, who read it, can give admin flag for users Igriks and Игорь Бродский. There are speak Vepsian as native, and they have knowledge of Wikimedia rules. Thank you--Tamara Ustinova 18:20, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Configuration updates

I propose these updates to configuration settings:

 • wgUploadNavigationUrl (link in toolbox): /wiki/Incubator:Upload' → /wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Incubator:Upload
 • wgUploadMissingFileUrl: //commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload
 • Remove namespace Lost, Lost_talk (only page is Lost:Incubator namespace)
 • wmgBabelUseUserLanguage = true (is the case on Commons, this sets the Babel header and footer in the user language)
 • Add 'translationadmin' to wgRemoveGroups for bureaucrats (I think this should be set for all wikis, but well, I'll just request it for Incubator) so we can remove translation admin rights via Special:UserRights

Deciding specifics of testing the welcome bot

Hi everyone. In of this question and my answer, I wanted to check in about Incubator:Template testing and the welcome message test in particular. Would folks like to end it soon and get to work on analyzing the data, or wait until the two month mark now that March 14th has passed? (For reference, our research questions for the test are here.) Best regards, Steven (WMF) (talk) 18:11, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think it can't harm to wait another month. The more data we have to look at, the better. --MF-W {a, b} 18:48, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, sounds good to me too. Steven (WMF) (talk) 19:53, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I'm going to go ahead and end this test, unless anyone objects. It's been running for quite some time. In addition, we looked at how to go about analyzing this data... Steven (WMF) (talk) 18:51, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, just go ahead. --MF-W {a, b} 19:03, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion over number of test wiki pages

Two issues: 1) I noticed on our main page that Template:Wp/tyv/NUMBEROFARTICLES is called in order to display the number of pages in the test wiki. Looking at the template, it calls the magic word PAGESINCATEGORY:Wp/tyv. The template page says there's 53 articles while the main page says there's 24 articles! 2) This text appears on Category:Wp/tyv, which is in opposition with the seeming behavior of PAGESINCATEGORY: "This category is for categories in the Tuvan Wikipedia. The only article in it should be the main page of that language." If I remove all of the test wiki's articles from its main category as per these instructions and leave only the categories and the main page, the main page displays the wrong number of articles in the test wiki. What's going on? --Боршоди Стейcи (talk) 16:01, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We (Incubator admins) discourage using Category:Wx/xyz, because we remove prefixes when importing to a new wiki, but for the root category we cannot remove it. Still, it is unfortunately a common practice to categorize everything in that category, and then make such NUMBEROFARTICLES templates for page counting. This is not recommended, also because (explaining your first issue) the template is cached so the number remains the same as long as nobody edits the page. I did a null edit, which doesn't save anything but reparses the page so the template says 24 too now. We do not however have a good alternative for counting pages of a test wiki. SPQRobin (talk) 17:01, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All pages in this test seem to be French. My French is insufficient to know whether these are coordinating pages (then they should be placed in a Wikipedia namespace) or personal propaganda. --OWTB (talk) 10:13, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see Vugar already deleted Wp/bbj/Ndop. --OWTB (talk) 13:53, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
İs it wrong action? --N KOziTalk 05:57, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, the use of French is not really correct, but I can't judge those texts, so we have to wait until another admin reacts. --OWTB (talk) 14:21, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For information, a list of all the Wp/bbj pages:

 1. Wp/bbj/Coordonateur
 2. Wp/bbj/Equipe
 3. Wp/bbj/Jujube
 4. Wp/bbj/Nkeng
 5. Wp/bbj/Rites
 6. Wp/bbj/Sèleng
 7. Wp/bbj/kwítə̀
 8. Wp/bbj/ntʉ̂m_é
 9. Wp/bbj/nə́tôꞌ
 10. Wp/bbj/wokeupeudie
 11. Talk:Wp/bbj

To me, most of them can be deleted as they merely talk about some persons (but not in an encyclopedic way) or describe some plants in French, also not in an encyclopedic way. --MF-W {a, b} 14:32, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

@all: Uhm, isn't it obvious that the first step should be contacting the user? SPQRobin (talk) 14:38, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if it is clearly vandalism there's no need for that. --OWTB (talk) 14:44, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, if you have to ask here, the vandalism isn't that "clear". It is always better to contact the user than not doing so even if he's a vandal, sometimes they just don't know they are doing vandalism. Amqui (talk) 03:00, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have now asked him. --MF-W {a, b} 13:35, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
english In my opinion, there is a misunderstanding. These pages are written in French about the Ghomala' culture, and not in Ghomala'. They are written in correct French, but lack sourcing. Some look like the outline for a page, maybe with the intention to develop them later in Ghomala'. In any case, there is no vandalism here, but maybe the user needs help and explanation (preferably in French). --Awkiku (talk) 12:28, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Templates (again)

Is there a way to import templates from another wiki to the Incubator ? The use of extension might create some difficulties for that. Amqui (talk) 02:33, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, just copy-paste from the wiki but put the history link in the edit summary. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 21:16, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I did already for simple templates, but ones with a lot of sub-templates might be harder. Anyway, I'm only looking at en:Template:coord for now, so if an admin could import it on Wp/mic it would be appreciate. Thank you, Wela'lin Amqui (talk) 23:56, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is not a good idea to import/copy from the English Wikipedia, as it is too complicated for such small wikis here on Incubator. (Ideally we have a set of default simple templates that any test wiki can start with.) SPQRobin (talk) 00:05, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Amqui (talk) 22:25, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Magic words like "Template", "Category", ...

Hello all, can someone tel me where to translate the magic words like "Template" or "Category" ? --Mmistmurt (talk) 18:07, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You would need to create new namespaces, and for that you usually go on Bugzilla. I'm not sure if they create those right on the Incubator or you have to wait to have your own Wikipedia (or other project). I hope somebody from the Incubator will answer that part of the question. Amqui (talk) 20:45, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Magic words are something else, see mw:Help:Magic words for that. The namespaces "Template" and "Category" can only remain in English here, so for Wt/kab, you need to use "Category:Wt/kab/Title" and "Template:Wt/kab/Title". Any other namespace should be "Wt/kab/Namespace:Title", but these are pseudo-namespaces and can only be created after the wiki is created. Both magic words and namespaces can be translated via translatewiki:Special:AdvancedTranslate (translated magic words can be used here, translated namespaces only on a separate wiki). SPQRobin (talk) 20:55, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help and for your quick replyAmqui and SPQRobin. --Mmistmurt (talk) 21:07, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bot requests

Hello,

Many taxoboxes have been created in the kichwa test-wiki (Wp/qug) with bad red links without prefixes (see Wp/qug/Rumi challwa for an example). This is a problem, as clicking on these red links will create articles in the main space instead of the test wiki, and if the article is created at the correct location with prefix, then the link will stay red in all the other taxoboxes. So this has prevented me so far to write general pages such as Mammalia, chordata etc. since linking them manually to all the involved taxoboxes would be a hassle. As the number of pages concerned is relatively important (I would say a couple of hundreds), is it possible to have a bot perform the following task:

 • In all the Wp/qug pages, check inside model for links of the form [[|foobar]], where foobar is any string of character not including |
 • When a match is found, replace the link with foobar.

In principle, if the number of articles checked matters, it would be sufficient to perform this in the articles contained in Category:Wp/qug/Kawsaymanta yachaykuna (life sciences).

If someone would be so kind as to do this, I would be very grateful. I hope this is the right place for such a request.

Yours, --Awkiku (talk) 10:34, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I started to try this, but with little success as I am unable to find a proper regex that does it; so I added some links and their replacements manually - bot edits. I'll continue to try to find a proper solution unless someone else wants to do it. --MF-W {a, b} 15:23, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for this work, actually the bot edits are quite good ([2]). In a couple of cases it is not perfect, but if you could run it on all the pages in the kichwa test wiki that would be great, it would do much more good than bad. --Awkiku (talk) 08:39, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've now run the bot on all the pages on Category:Wp/qug/Kawsaymanta yachaykuna. If you'd like another run to replace the remaining wrong links, feel free to request it (preferably with a list of the links in question). --MF-W {a, b} 15:32, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thank you very much for the work, yes it did a great job on many pages. On some pages it corrected only a part of the links ([3]) but I think a majority of the links is OK, thank you very much, after some time I shall be able to see whether the missing links are a few or a lot, and if I can provide a list of links that are systematically concerned. --Awkiku (talk) 15:03, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Test wiki adminship

I would like to be made a test-administrator at Santali wikipedia project(wp/sat). I am already on santali language translation project according to the incubator. But Unfortunately I culdn't set my Santali Language(Sat) at "My Preference".Please help me,what should I do now?

Are you talking about setting the interface language to Santali or about setting your main test-wiki to Santali ? Amqui (talk) 00:05, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Please help me about both topics and specially for "My preference". Because I couldn't select the "Santali" as my language at "My Preference". samar88
Here, on the Incubator, you can't "select" your main test-wiki in your preferences, you select the project (i.e. Wikipedia, Wikinews, etc.), but you type in the language code in the appropriate box below under Internationalisation. For the interface language, Santali language isn't set yet, so you'll have to start it on translatewiki if it's not done already and after that to fill a bug for the developers to add the support for it. Don't hesitate if you have anymore questions, Amqui (talk) 00:57, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The situation is the following: On Special:Preferences, you can select:

 • Language: - "sat - Santali" is not showing up there because your translations from translatewiki.net are not yet added to the MediaWiki code itself. This will probably done when you translated the 500 most used messages; you can request in on translatewiki:Support. This preference is responsible for displaying the software in your language.
 • Test wiki: - Here you choose the project (like Wikipedia)
 • Test wiki language: - Here you enter your language code, sat in your case. These preferences are responsible for helping you to edit the Santali Wikipedia test project here on Incubator. --MF-W {a, b} 12:00, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ISO translation

Where can I change the translation of an ISO code? In Swedish ”grc” is now ”forngrekiska” which isn’t the proper name for Ancient Greek. It should be ”klassisk grekiska”. Lundgren8 (talk) 23:45, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Official translation (by ISO) of a ISO 639-3 code is not done, but you may change it on the wiki. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 00:13, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, these translations are from an external repository, CLDR. You can find information on how to submit changes at translatewiki:Language_support_team/CLDR-2012, although the process is quite difficult unfortunately. Regards, SPQRobin (talk) 00:49, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Séliš support -- need help

I'm working on languages of Montana in WP and Incubator. Can't find the q with a dot on top for Séliš-- do we have this character somewhere? The Séliš language has an ISO code, an active revitalization project and current written materials. How do we enter its characters into Incubator? Djembayz (talk) 02:34, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. If you have the Salish keyboard, you may find it, but on the Wikimedia Incubator's list of characters. If you do not have the Salish keyboard here's a link: http://www.interiorsalish.com/salishfontkeyboard.html . Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 10:04, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't find the character, but if you can give it, I can add it to the "edit tools" below the edit form (where you can click on the characters to enter them in the edit form). See also Help:Language support. If needed, a "Narayam" virtual keyboard can be made, which would convert character combinations into the special characters. Regards, SPQRobin (talk) 19:08, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hum, as for the "combining line under", the "combining dot above" unicode shows the dot actually to the right of the letter on MediaWiki. I had filled a bug on BugZilla for the "combining line under", but I didn't follow up yet. See: q̇. Altough, I should say that, while using the en:Template:unicode, it works on the English Wikipedia (see it on: en:User:Amqui). Amqui (talk) 23:29, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sysops inactivity policy

The policy on I:A currently says:
"As with the admin policy on Meta and Commons, inactive administrators may have their access removed. According to this policy, any sysop inactive on Incubator will be desysoped. "Inactive" means no edits in the past six months. Inactive administrators may re-apply in the regular way."
However we currently don't enforce this rule (i.e. nobody requests stewards to remove the rights of inactive sysops). I propose that we change this to one year of complete inactivity (the current formulation just talks about edits) and start enforcing it again. So, I propose to change this sentence: >>"Inactive" means virtually no edits or log actions in the past six twelve months.<< --MF-W {a, b} 18:18, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it would be useful to add some reasons to my proposal: I think one year is a period of time which is easier to overlook than just half a year; also in half a year a lot of things can change, and an admin might become active again, and there shouldn't be any need to run through I:RFA again. However if someone is active for a whole year, activity is less likely to resume. In addition, there is no need to rush with desysop requests because of activity. --MF-W {a, b} 18:47, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How do you do interwiki links within Incubator? I have been populating Native American languages with basic pages, and the interwiki links would really help keep track of which wikis have which articles. Thanks for help. Djembayz (talk) 20:33, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, you cannot make interwiki links pointing to a Wikipedia in the Incubator, so interwikis between Wikipedias within the Incubator are also impossible to make. Amqui (talk) 22:46, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
[edit conflict] There is no possibility to have interwiki links between different Incubator test wikis (at least not if you want to have them in the box bottom-left). It is however possible to use interwiki links to normal subdomains like on any other wiki (e.g. to en.wikipedia); we have a bot which updates them. --MF-W {a, b} 22:50, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How to create a category for test wikis in Native American languages?

Is there some way to create categories for test wikis by language family? It would be quicker than editing summary pages. Djembayz (talk) 01:54, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Currently, we do not. We only have a category with all tests. I generally support the idea of wikis by language family, but you should keep in mind that the Native American languages do not constitute a single language family; see also Wikipedia. --OWTB (talk) 13:30, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Change needed to code for Siletz Dee-Ni Wikipedia

The current code for Siletz Dee-Ni Wikipedia is incorrect. The code "tol" for Tolowa needs to be changed to "ctc" for Chetco.

Per an e-mail received from Bud Lane, editor of the Siletz Dee-Ni online talking dictionary, the Tolowa and Siletz tribes are two different tribes. Siletz Dee-Ni he Athabaskan language spoken on the Siletz Reservation is a regional language spoken by the various tribes which moved there in the 1850s. It is called Siletz Dee-Ni but it is also known by the individual names, "Chetco, Rogue River, Sixes, Coquille, Pistol River, Applegate River, Galice creek and sometimes referred to generally as Tututni (Rogue River)."

The material in the current Siletz Dee-Ni is all based on the Siletz Dee-Ni online talking dictionary; and the Ethnologue entry uses the code "ctc". Djembayz (talk) 16:16, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you're sure about this, please feel free to go ahead and move the Wp/tol pages (to which so far only you contributed?) to Wp/ctc. Note however, that en:Tolowa language talks of "ISO code: either tol or ctc". --MF-W {a, b} 16:39, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone rename my account to "Charles R. Tyler"? I made a mistake in my surname.--Charles R. Tayler (talk) 13:25, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While renaming is possible (since the destination username does not exist at all), putting your real name as your username is discouraged. Do you mind about this? --Hydriz (talk) 14:30, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest you simply create a new account as the account "Charles R. Tyler" is not yet taken on any Wikimedia wiki; and you have only made this one edit with your account Charles R. Tayler. --MF-W {a, b} 21:08, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why it would be discouraged, in fact I see more and more renaming lately from nicknames to real names for user account name. Amqui (talk) 21:18, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New JS warning for test-sysops

Having discovered the possibility to provide a custom JS for test-sysops at MediaWiki:Group-test-sysop.js, I have added a function there that warns test-sysops:

 • when deleting outside of their test(s): In vector skin, the deletion button will have a red background. The deletion screen itself will have a big note Warning : you're about to delete a page outside of your test wiki(s)! / Remember the policy: If you delete something outside your test, be prepared to defend your actions or you may be desysopped.
 • when blocking a user, there will be a note Warning : you, as a test-admin, are about to block a user / This should be done in emergencies only.

It will not technically prevent test-sysops from doing it, just warn them. And of course, test-sysops do have the blocking rights because they may use them in an emergency.

Please put any questions, suggestions & complaints below --MF-W {a, b} 19:58, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help moving Tolowa to Chetco - Tolowa

moved here from the Main Page talk. --MF-W {a, b} 21:41, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would someone who knows how to do this please move the Tolowa Wikipedia, code tol, to Chetco-Tolowa, code ctc? Per e-mail from editor of the Siletz Dee-ni Talking Dictionary, this is Chetco-Tolowa, code ctc, not code tol. Not sure how to move pages to new code. Djembayz (talk) 02:33, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've done this, the pages formerly at Wp/tol are now at Wp/ctc (admins have an option to move all subpages of a page, which makes this slightly easier). I also moved Category:Wp/tol to category:Wp/ctc by bot. --MF-W {a, b} 21:52, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help pages

Editing I:exporting, I noticed that it has now become a quite short page which could maybe even be integrated into Help:FAQ. Then, I noticed that I:Manual also has some overlaps with the FAQ.
I think our help pages could really use an overhaul, especially considering which other pages exist in an unfinished or not up-to-date state, like Help:The_eco-system_around_Incubator, I:Glossary, Help:Contents, or my "brainstormed" page User:MF-Warburg/soyouwanna.

I have the following idea now:

 • Help:Contents will be turned into a super-informative portal, which links to the pages I mentioned above (which will be extended and improved), and to the pages I mention below. It could also include links to Special:FirstSteps etc.
 • Break up Help:FAQ into several new pages, that each concentrate on one topic, e.g. "How to start a test project", "How to go through the Request process at Langcom", "What to do when the subdomain is created". These "topical FAQs" will be mentioned on the super-informative portal ;)

What do you think? --MF-W {a, b} 01:58, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  Support, with subpages if needed. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 01:02, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have started doing thinks now in the dev wiki. See the Help:FAQ page there for 5 pages which are supposed to replace numerous others. See the incu-dev RC for my exact changes. I always talk about "log numbers" there, that refers to the "log of my thoughts" while editing: [7] --MF-W {a, b} 20:21, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New project idea

I moved this here from the archive of I:RST, where it was originally placed. --MF-W {a, b} 13:48, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to suggest something like 'Wikiterms' or 'Wikilossary'; which will be a collection terms/ keywords/ definitions etc used in different areas. Each of these areas would be a category. For example, consider the category, 'Science'- which will contain these words like "Force", "Work", "Mechanics" etc. Likewise, the sub-category "Cricket" under category "Sports" will contain terms like "Batsman", "Wicket" etc. You see, it is not like the 'Wiktionary', as it simply has not such categorization (rather contains etymology). Otherwise, it may be created as a child project (like the 'Wikijunior' project in 'Wikibooks') to 'Wiktionary'. It will be helpful for anyone, say for a student who is searching for a definition. Please let me know what do you think. Regards. Anubhab91 (talk) 08:34, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wiktionary is a dictionary full of definitions. If you don't find what you want there, you might want to propose this for an "extension" of wiktionary. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 01:06, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the right place for new projects is meta:Proposals for new projects. SPQRobin (talk) 18:54, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Very good idea, but it should definetly be a Wiktionary project, no need for a new project for that. Amqui (talk) 15:14, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For your information, I added a gadget that redirects file links to Wikimedia Commons (since all files except our logo are on Commons) and I enabled it by default. Regards, SPQRobin (talk) 17:39, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Creating Category (Taggayt)

Hi, i'm Amazigh84 an active contributor on Wikamawal test project (kabyle wiktionary) and i'd like to know how to add a category below the words i create
for example for words of literature, id like to add them in category|literature, Taggayt|Tasekla (in kabyle of corse)
any help
Amazigh84

Just put at the bottom of the page, by replacing language code by the kabyle language code, and CategoryName by the appropriate name for the category in this language. You will have to use the word Category instead of Taggayt on the Incubator. Amqui (talk) 17:01, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Travel guide

Just posting a note here that there is a naming poll for the new travel wiki guide on Meta if you didn't know. I believe our community is okay about it being absorbed into the umbrella of Incubator (although I am not sure how we are going to work about the prefix if the name is Wikivoyage)? This is not a vote, but just to make sure lest they create a beta wiki for it (like Beta Wikiversity) or something. Cheers. --Hydriz (talk) 04:43, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, so I think the WikimediaIncubator dev could make a 3 letter prefix possible. Decide later. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 01:24, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Of course the test wikis for new language versions of the travel guide should be hosted here on Incubator (we don't need another "beta" wiki for it). About the prefix, we can surely also take something else than "Wv" (e.g. Wy) if Wikivoyage is chosen as name. --MF-W {a, b} 13:10, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Right, "Wy" it will be then, or if there is any additional ideas you wish to propose, do so here. Wikivoyage would (by WMF's estimate) be officially part of the Wikimedia family at the end of the month (October). Shouldn't be hard to get the technical stuff ready by then. --Hydriz (talk) 06:35, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do we already want to have it enabled here? I'd say yes. Regards, SPQRobin (talk) 00:22, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes! Support; will hopefully encourage more users to actually use the interface in their test-language (or to translate the interface at all). --MF-W {a, b} 00:27, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I have corrected it. --MF-W {a, b} 11:10, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Abusefilter-log-detail

Hi, I propose that we assign the right abusefilter-log-detail (View detailed abuse log entries) to all users or at least autoconfirmed users - currently only sysops have it. It allows to see,on Special:Abuselog, the number of the filter which was triggered, and a link to further details about the action. Note that the showing of details does not apply to filters which are marked as private (these still can only be seen by sysops).
According to m:Abuse filter, Meta and enwiki already have such a setting - for example, compare en:Special:Abuselog and sv:Special:Abuselog If you are a sysop on one of these wikis, or a global rollbacker, log out first for the comparision. --MF-W {a, b} 18:33, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. SPQRobin (talk) 00:59, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Should be okay, since marking a filter as private still disallows users with this right to see the details of the filter. --Hydriz (talk) 01:09, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Under pressure of MF-W (:P), I submitted a global config change so it will be available to autoconfirmed users on all wikis: c32681. SPQRobin (talk) 01:44, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Once again this proves how Incubator is trendsetting! --MF-W {a, b} 13:28, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikivoyage active

Since today Wikivoyage is active and editable as project. While Wikivoyage wasn't yet under the flag of Wikimedia, it had several private wiki's for languages of which database dumps were available from Wikitravel. Those languages involved: es, fi, ja, pl, pt, zh and also hu and ro. On several pages of Wikivoyage, those wiki's are linked and go to Incubator. Romaine (talk) 18:00, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We should enable Wy as project prefix for Wikivoyage, according to Incubator:Administrators'_noticeboard#Can.27t_to_create_page it isn't possible yet to create such. Romaine (talk) 07:54, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Problem was that the titleblacklist still prevented it. Fixed this. --MF-W {a, b} 11:20, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, there are also dumps available for other languages which were never imported to Wikivoyage eV's site. Also, there are a few languages with very few pages on Wts, e.g. Bulgarian. Is someone importing these pages to Wikimedia Incubator? --Stefan2 (talk) 14:51, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is currently discussed (on wikimedia-l) that there seem to be XML dumps avaiable for es, fi, hu, ja, pl, pt, ro and zh Wikivoyages. We will import them if we can get them & it is not decided to outright create wikis for them.
All other language versions which exist on wts.wikivoyage-old can also be imported - it would be good if someone could create a list of the pages which are wanted. For example for bg, is it just these 3 pages? --MF-W {a, b} 16:22, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Bg: Possibly only three pages, I don't know. Also see here. There was enough support to launch Wikivoyage in Romanian, Finnish, Portuguese, Polish and Spanish, but the projects were never opened on Wikivoyage e.V.'s server before the projects moved here. There appear to be database dumps for even more languages (see list here). I'm running a bot on the current 7 languages which updates Wts & Shared file links with Commons file links, so if more language versions open up, then I would like to know so that I can also request bot status on the additional projects which would also need lots of file replacements. --Stefan2 (talk) 10:31, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, those are the only 3 pages for bg. Other languages that I found pages for were ko, gl, and lt. Also, there are some other discussion pages for new languages, maybe those could be useful? Sumone10154 (talk) 14:13, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Incubator:Wikivoyage_import now for an overview. Feel free to correct if anything is wrong. --MF-W {a, b} 16:09, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The prefix should probably be set to Voy, not Wy. Wy doesn't carry much meaning to me, as the "y" isn't hard. Voy is also consistent with the interwiki prefix. Unless if Incubator has some unbreakable rule where project prefixes must have only two characters, which means it'll have to do, I guess. JamesA (talk) 07:54, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is pretty much unbreakable to always use 2-letter project prefixes (years ago, we still used Wikt for Wiktionaries, but it moved it to Wt). I hope that Wy for Wikivoyage is generally recognizable enough. --MF-W {a, b} 12:35, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Vo could be a possibility, considering that is what is currently used in the Wikivoyage favicon. It's no big deal, though. Wy serves its purpose. JamesA (talk) 14:00, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There's also http://www.jamguides.com/ (maintained by voy:User:Wrh2 I think) which contains a static copy of Wikitravel. I don't know if this is based on the latest available database dump or whether it is based on an earlier one. Unfortunately, voy:User:Wrh2 seems to prefer to avoid involvement with Wikivoage because of an ongoing lawsuit against him. voy:User:Peterfitzgerald might know something, but it says that he's away travelling somewhere and won't be accessible until sometime next week. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:42, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's useful; while the jamguide page does not use MediaWiki, it has an export special page as well and the documentation of that wiki software claims to create XML dumps compatible to MediaWiki with it. We can try that if we can't get the files from someone at all. (/me currently waiting for a reply on voy:de:User talk:RolandUnger). --MF-W {a, b} 19:42, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For info about the latest available WT database dumps for each language, see discussion -> http://www.wikivoyage-old.org/general/Talk:Migration_FAQ#Datestamp -- Alan ffm (talk) 23:03, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That is good to know, but unfortunately it does not contain the files itself.
If anyone knows German, you can see the discussion with Roland Unger about the files here. I have not yet gotten to know whether he has the files or not.
I have tested importing from Jamguides: User:MF-Warburg/Portada from [9]. It works! (however the page does not look correct, because I didn't import the templates as well). But this is nevertheless very useful - if we can't get the dumps, I will import from jamguides (which however will be more complicated than simply getting the dump). --MF-W {a, b} 14:44, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Even if no one from Wikivoyage e.V. knows how to dump other language versions while User:Hansm is away, you could maybe ask for the password to the subdomains so that you can write a bot to download all pages using Special:Export or something. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:07, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And which unreleased languages have been already imported to Wikivoyage? -- Alan ffm (talk) 22:13, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think that these languages were imported to Wikivoyage e.V.'s servers and that the pages are available under subdomain to wikivoyage-old.org which are protected by password.
Also note this (which I first saw here). I'm wondering if voy:User:Wrh2 might be more willing to help once the legal trouble has ended. --Stefan2 (talk) 00:24, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some questions:

 • Incubator:Wikivoyage import suggests that some projects are likely going to be imported soon. What is the present status of this?
 • Incubator:Wikivoyage import#"No meaningful edits" recently suggests that there are some projects without data dumps available. However, the projects are available at Jamguides which has a Special:Export page. I wrote a quick tool which exported all pages on those projects (including version history) to lots of XML files (one per page). Do you need those files, or will you obtain a dump in some other way? Based on Special:Recentchanges, none of the projects has a community, so it might be better to import them to this project instead of importing them to individual websites. There aren't very many pages on the projects, but it might be better to start with those than to restart from zero. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:15, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikivoyage in Finnish

Why can not I start with Wikivoyage in Finnish here in incubator (Wy/fi/Etusivu)? Gálaniitoluodda (talk) 10:17, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please see 1 section above. It should work now. --MF-W {a, b} 11:20, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think that it would be better to import Wikivoyage e.V.'s database dump of Finnish Wikitravel instead of restarting from zero. Finnish was also one of the languages which gained enough support to start a Finnish language version on Wikivoyage e.V.'s request page, but in the end the project was never opened. Lack of time for the Wikivoyage site admins, maybe. --Stefan2 (talk) 10:24, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Let's wait importing... --Stryn (talk) 12:22, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Repair histories

Hello everyone and sorry for the newbie mistake. Can an admin move the history of Category:Wy/es/Mallorca to Wy/es/Mallorca? If not, just delete it? Thanks in advance, Gons (talk) 23:51, 12 November 2012 (UTC).[reply]

Hi, quite difficult because moving categories is not possible. I think it is ok to simply let the page stay in place, as both users have edited both pages. --MF-W {a, b} 00:37, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Special:Preferences doesn't work on this project: I'm told that there has been a "Fatal exception of type MWException". How can I change my preferences for this project? --Stefan2 (talk) 20:28, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is a known bug: bugzilla:42068. Let's hope it will be fixed soon :/ --MF-W {a, b} 20:29, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Very annoying. Since I rarely check pages on Incubator, I'd prefer to change the default settings so that I get e-mails when a page on my watchlist has been changed, but I can't figure out how to do this without accessing Special:Preferences. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:07, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed now. SPQRobin (talk) 00:26, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of interface into Ingrian

Hello! I want to translate at least a part of Wikimedia messages into Ingrian (I speak it in pre-intermediate level), but I don't see izh.portal on TranslateWiki. I know it's necessary; so what should I do now? Can someone create a portal in that site? Thanks.--Aig mest ei varasta (talk) 20:17, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I created the portal. To enable translations to Ingrian, I need to know the native name. Is it "ižoran keel"? Regards, SPQRobin (talk) 22:37, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thank you. Yes, "ižoran keel" is correct; and without "keel" it can be used too.--Aig mest ei varasta (talk) 06:35, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is enabled, you can now start translating on translatewiki.net. SPQRobin (talk) 01:21, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Simple world languages

Hello,

The LangCom decided in June 2011, following a discussion on the issue to allow creation of Wikimedia projects in simple version of world languages, when there is some stable standard on this simple language form (the mailing list entry gives the two following examples: Basic English and Français fondamental).

I would like to know if the Incubator community does or does not agrees to allow such test here under simple-<ISO 639 prefix> prefixes when there is documented evidence it meets the two criteria required by the LangCom.

There is currently one such proposal, meta:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia French Simple 3. An incubator test under simple-fr would then be appropriated if the incubator policy is amended to correspond to the LangCom one. --Dereckson (talk) 14:21, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to know how to start the test Wiki so that other users can contribute - I submitted the above proposal and was told that I should start the test wiki now. WhisperToMe (talk) 01:55, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I would strongly prefer test wikis for simple projects to be started as a namespace on the respective Wikipedia (so e.g. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple:Article or so). This ensures that the "parent community" (French-language Wikipedians) agree with there being a Simple version, and this will prevent users from starting unwanted simple projects here on Incubator (I suppose e.g. a Simple Walloon Wikipedia would be unwanted, and where do you draw the line between wanted and unwanted ones? If LangCom would have to decide first, that might give unwanted workload). SPQRobin (talk) 22:04, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WhisperToMe proposal has been discussed three times on fr.wikipedia village pump. The discussion shows the community is strongly against the simple proposal. Strongly means here nobody agreed with the idea, but worst, mocked the idea. WhisperToMe has by consequent virtually no chance to get his test there.
As WhiperToMe failed to get a parent community, he has to create one from scratch.
LangCom already draws the line, with two conditions, two conditions I put in my initial message:
 1. be a world language (English, French, German, etc.)
 2. has a stable standard (the mailing list entry gives the two following examples: Basic English and Français fondamental).
--Dereckson (talk) 01:01, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Strongly support Dereckson's idea. SpartacksCompatriot (talk) 16:04, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: Discussion#1 on the FR Wikipedia is here: fr:Wikipédia:Le_Bistro/17_octobre_2012#Proposition_.C3.A0_propos_de_Wikip.C3.A9dia_en_fran.C3.A7ais_simple - At that time I had not written the formal proposal and that discussion probably is best characterized by "nobody agreed with the idea, but worst, mocked the idea". But that changes with fr:Wikipédia:Le_Bistro/29_octobre_2012#Une_proposition_de_la_Wikip.C3.A9dia_en_fran.C3.A7ais_simple discussion #2 - Several people actually made comments such as "J'ai lu la proposition de WhisperToMe dans le Wikimédia Méta qui paraît plutôt bien argumentée et rédigée dans un anglais soigné." and "L'initiative de WhisperToMe m'apparaît de plus en plus utile." - Google translate tells me that, of the people who read the proposal, some feel it was carefully argued. Discussion#3 consists of two posts from Dereckson and one from one other user: fr:Wikipédia:Le_Bistro/30_novembre_2012#Une_wikip.C3.A9dia_en_fran.C3.A7ais_simplifi.C3.A9.2C_jamais_deux_propositions_sans_3.
What that means is that once a test wiki opens, then perhaps French Wikipedians will find serious value in the concept.
WhisperToMe (talk) 03:08, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In the meantime, what steps should I take now to open a test wiki? I want to open a test wiki ASAP WhisperToMe (talk) 21:57, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I removed it just because the Minangkabau Wikipedia was more active that Southern Azerbaijani project, at least in that moment. Situation is changed, so if I was wrong excuse me.--Tamara Ustinova (talk) 18:29, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Tamara. LangCom says that they will reconsider Minangkabau Wikipedia proposal this December. We might get our own site soon. SpartacksCompatriot (talk) 23:38, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

pnb is absent..?

W.Punjabi Wikiquote is absent from the Incubator:Main Page and from the list of those which are active and might get their own site soon.

It has been an active project for almost two years. Apparently it shows only 252 pages but we have learnt from our experience from our wikipedia and wiktionary that in the process from incubator to normal stage many pages remained uncounted. So we are making new titles below the pages we already made and planned to make new pages when the project will be normal. The project is doing well and better than many already normalized wikiquote projects . Perhaps mistakenly but its removal from the above mentioned list created tension. We hope it will be soon normalized. --Khalid Mahmood (talk) 20:48, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the note on Incubator talk:Featured wikis. Thanks, SPQRobin (talk) 23:14, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, Punjabi Wikiquote is inactive in this time, and it shouldn't be in a table of active wikis.--Tamara Ustinova (talk) 13:34, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Tamara Ustinova, please allow me to differ you, W.Punjabi Wikiquote is active since March, 2011, even before your joining of Incubator. Please see its record : [10], it is the strongest candidate for normalisation. --Khalid Mahmood (talk) 16:57, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Mahmood. I saw this statistics, but we talking about current, not all-time activity. But I'm not an administrator and I can't disallow anything; it means that you can add your project in the list.
And I don't understand why do you refer to this so painful. As practice shows, this list has no effect on LangCom in fact. The project can be opened even it was never located in "Featured wikis" (e.g. Nothern Sotho Wikipedia). Don't worry and do what you want. And never stop contributing. :) Happy New Year. --Tamara Ustinova (talk) 17:22, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of language names

How and where can I translate the language names to South Azerbaijani? (e.g. English-->اینگیلیسجه) RX. --Arjanizary (talk) 16:57, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Language name translations are from an external repository, CLDR. Please see translatewiki:CLDR for more info. Regards, SPQRobin (talk) 22:52, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know what I mean? For instance take a look at here. The other languages (آیری دیل‌لر) names are Persian (For example: عربی، اسپانیایی و آلمانی) or English (For example: South Azerbaijani, ‏Zazaki and Colognian). I want to translate these to South Azerbaijani language. RX. --Arjanizary (talk) 12:31, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, these translations are part of CLDR. --MF-W {a, b} 21:43, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure this is eligible? --Nemo bis (talk) 23:24, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I doesnt sure about this project eligibility. Even I didnt sure its written in Indonesian or Malay. SpartacksCompatriot (talk) 15:39, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The test-wiki is not eligible as it is not a language, but many languages. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 16:41, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you delete several pages? Deletion requests must go through I:RFD. SPQRobin (talk) 20:44, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was clearly invalid, mul being for multiple languages, and that would require the approval of the community, and should not be started here. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 01:45, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That does not counter the fact that deletion requests must go through I:RFD. Would you like if after several years someone suddenly (without any notice) deleted an article you created because apparently the topic is e.g. not encyclopedic? SPQRobin (talk) 02:20, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind if one of my articles get deleted. When MF-Warburg deleted Wn/mul and Wb/mul in 2007, even with I:RFD not existing, it was not discussed anywhere public, maybe on IRC where I discussed deleting Wt/mul. Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 19:58, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The problem now is delete that project or keep that. SpartacksCompatriot (talk) 01:15, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So would you like restoration or full deletion? Ebe123 (Talkabout it|contribs) 16:00, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Full deletion. SpartacksCompatriot (talk) 05:23, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A question about Wikivoyage Chinese

Recently we have all agreed on what name Wikivoyage Chinese will adopt. Now that we've finished discussions on that, the page wy/zh may need a change. The page shows "Wikivoyage 中文", not the Chinese name we gave it. I think maybe it has something to do with test wiki, but I don't know how to change that into our adopted name. Please help us if you think you know what to do and how to do.Super Wang (talk) 10:53, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
