I tried repeatedly but couldn't create a Page. Please fix this problem for us soon.

Welcome edit

Welcome to the Wikimedia Incubator! You can find help and information on Help:Contents. If your English knowledge is good, you can translate that page to other language you know so more people can understand it!

Please also make a user page with for example babel templates on it.

You can select your interface language in your preferences.

If you make articles, templates or categories, don't forget to add a prefix!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask it on my talk page. Greetings, SPQRobin 16:50, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can you help me please. edit

Hi, I had contacted User:Timichal regarding an erroneus deletion by his bot: [1].

However it seems that he is no longer active. Can you tell me if it is possible to rescue this page: Wp/gom/dn/कोंकणी भास. Please help me as this article is the primary article for the Konkani Wikipedia. Thanks.--Deepak D'Souza (talkcontribs) 09:44, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Restored. It has been target of some vandal bot and then somebody tagged it for speedy deletion instead of pure revert. I left the vandalism deleted though.
Danny B. 12:12, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a million!!:-). I feared that the article may have been lost forever and I had no backup. I have a very good guess as to who may be behind the vandalism, but it doesnt matter. Its time to get the Konkani wikipedia back on the road . Thanks again!--Deepak D'Souza (talkcontribs) 05:03, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jose77 edit

Hi, I have recently returned to find that Jose77 is still trying to push his religious agenda here.

[2] [3] [4]

Often, he has created incubator pages for languages with no community here with the sole purpose of pushing this religious agenda. This guy is trying to distort things, and gives undue weight to his own en:true Jesus Church by putting it on their main pages sometimes where it clearly does not belong (only 1 million members, compared to many more prominent churches).

He has been desysopped at many Wikis where he requested the privilege, sometimes fraudulently, and often promulgated wrong and incorrect interface translations he got by taking words from a dictionary. In fact, he has often "translated" the article on his True Jesus Church with a dictionary, resulting in very poor and incorrect translations. By including only Christianity-related topics in a category on Religion, he is ignoring the world's other major religions, including both Islam and Hinduism which have over 1 billion followers each, in his quest to convert all Wikipedia readers to his own True Jesus Church. --Node ue 19:52, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for clarifying the need for English-language namespace. Could you please create a list for me of the pages needing this change. Also, perhaps you could let me know how to upload pages for the Erzya wiktionary. At present I have generated a txt document with verbs and am pasting them one at a time for subsequent editing in the wiki environment. Actually, I have extensive dictionary material... My question is what format I need to generate the individual doc names on wiki. What do I put before?

Ppl wiki edit

Hi, thanks for getting the account registration glitch sorted, thanks to which I can now use my account, and can focus on the original reason for my registering in the Incubator, which was my interest in the ppl wiki test as I explained on the Incubator Community Portal page. The questions I asked there still await an answer. You mentioned some of the problems yourself - renaming of wiki, need to sort existing content. Someone mentioned there were other sorts of problems on the existing test site. What I want to know is what is going to happen with all those issues so that (for the first time, as far as I know) somebody who actually knows some Pipil and genuinely wants to consider developing a Pipil wiki can have a free hand to explore the possibility of getting started. Neither of the two people whose names appear in the editing history for the original test have so far replied to my questions on their user pages about this, or shown any signs of life! I refer you to my questions on the Community Portal for further details. Thanks in advance for your attention. Alan --A R King 16:03, 12 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Template deletions edit

Can you please slow down with the deletion of the templates I've imported so that we can at least talk about them? I would like to keep them if they continue to benefit the wiki. Besides, it's not going to help much if all we do is subst: them, and then have to import them later if they become highly used for some or other task. You could consider them "legal unprefixed pages bold" on I:M/IT, since they are merely maintenance templates used in MediaWiki messages. And for a possible solution, I could undelete and move and/or prefix the templates under "Template:Wp/en/<template name>", like Template:Wp/en/fmbox, since the templates are written mainly in English anyways. TeleComNasSprVen 22:49, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I delete only those templates which are unused and worth nothing for everyday use here. The higher number of unnecessary templates creates the higher number of mistakes in test wikis. We were always aiming to minify the number of unnecessary templates and I don't see any reason to not continue in this trend. It took us way so much hard work and way so long time to clean the Incubator up and I don't see any reason why to polute it and make it messy back again.
Regarding the particular case of Fmbox - that is exact example of unnecessary template. It is not functional but decorative template.

An important message about renaming users edit

Dear Danny B.,

I am cross-posting this message to many places to make sure everyone who is a Wikimedia Foundation project bureaucrat receives a copy. If you are a bureaucrat on more than one wiki, you will receive this message on each wiki where you are a bureaucrat.

As you may have seen, work to perform the Wikimedia cluster-wide single-user login finalisation (SUL finalisation) is taking place. This may potentially effect your work as a local bureaucrat, so please read this message carefully.

Why is this happening? As currently stated at the global rename policy, a global account is a name linked to a single user across all Wikimedia wikis, with local accounts unified into a global collection. Previously, the only way to rename a unified user was to individually rename every local account. This was an extremely difficult and time-consuming task, both for stewards and for the users who had to initiate discussions with local bureaucrats (who perform local renames to date) on every wiki with available bureaucrats. The process took a very long time, since it's difficult to coordinate crosswiki renames among the projects and bureaucrats involved in individual projects.

The SUL finalisation will be taking place in stages, and one of the first stages will be to turn off Special:RenameUser locally. This needs to be done as soon as possible, on advice and input from Stewards and engineers for the project, so that no more accounts that are unified globally are broken by a local rename to usurp the global account name. Once this is done, the process of global name unification can begin. The date that has been chosen to turn off local renaming and shift over to entirely global renaming is 15 September 2014, or three weeks time from now. In place of local renames is a new tool, hosted on Meta, that allows for global renames on all wikis where the name is not registered will be deployed.

Your help is greatly needed during this process and going forward in the future if, as a bureaucrat, renaming users is something that you do or have an interest in participating in. The Wikimedia Stewards have set up, and are in charge of, a new community usergroup on Meta in order to share knowledge and work together on renaming accounts globally, called Global renamers. Stewards are in the process of creating documentation to help global renamers to get used to and learn more about global accounts and tools and Meta in general as well as the application format. As transparency is a valuable thing in our movement, the Stewards would like to have at least a brief public application period. If you are an experienced renamer as a local bureaucrat, the process of becoming a part of this group could take as little as 24 hours to complete. You, as a bureaucrat, should be able to apply for the global renamer right on Meta by the requests for global permissions page on 1 September, a week from now.

In the meantime please update your local page where users request renames to reflect this move to global renaming, and if there is a rename request and the user has edited more than one wiki with the name, please send them to the request page for a global rename.

Stewards greatly appreciate the trust local communities have in you and want to make this transition as easy as possible so that the two groups can start working together to ensure everyone has a unique login identity across Wikimedia projects. Completing this project will allow for long-desired universal tools like a global watchlist, global notifications and many, many more features to make work easier.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the SUL finalisation, read over the Help:Unified login page on Meta and leave a note on the talk page there, or on the talk page for global renamers. You can also contact me on my talk page on meta if you would like. I'm working as a bridge between Wikimedia Foundation Engineering and Product Development, Wikimedia Stewards, and you to assure that SUL finalisation goes as smoothly as possible; this is a community-driven process and I encourage you to work with the Stewards for our communities.

Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) talk 18:24, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

renders an output that looks like this
Abdul Karim Naatogmah (9 February 2015). "Jisonaayili chief advocates rapid development". Citifmonline (Tamale, Ghana). Citifmonline. Retrieved 25 July 2015.
whereas in the test Dagbani WP we're working on in the incubator the same markup results into a redlink
Template:Reflist
That is the problem I'm trying to solve. Thanks Masssly (talk) 11:47, 27 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Maintenance tools edit

Hi, Danny. We talked at one point (on irc?) about some of the maintenance tools you used to run here. I've done a lot of manual cleanup and pruning here, and am up to the point where I am hoping you might be able to recreate a couple of these. I'm not posting all these statistics on I:CP yet, but based on my manual work—and I've looked at every single one of these, at least briefly—we have the following:

  • About 1,000 test projects exist here with at least some legitimate content in the test language. (Compare the number of subcategories of Category:Incubator:All test wikis [996] and the sum of the contents of the categories Category:Incubator:Test wikis/status/open [963], Category:Incubator:Test wikis/status/imported [49] and Category:Incubator:Test wikis/status/approved/waiting for creation [1]. The fact that the right side of the equation is not exactly equal to the left side only means I didn't quite succeed in making sure every open test has a root category, or at least that the root category didn't get added to the parent category.)
  • By manual count, 598 of these appear at Incubator:Wikis. Based on the way that page is written, presumably all 1,000 should have a line here. In fact, many of the 1,000 tests are really quite nominal (1–5 pages, perhaps created over a couple of days and over five years ago, with almost no editing since), and I don't know that they really ought to appear on Incubator:Wikis until/unless they become active. So having an updated statistics page would certainly help in this.

So if it's feasible, I'd love it if you can recreate/update the following pages, all of which you apparently ran in the past. They're in descending order of importance to me, with #1 far-and-away more important than any other:

  1. Incubator:Test statistics
  2. Incubator:Maintenance/Incorrect titles
  3. Incubator:Maintenance/Test wikis without infopage
  4. Incubator:Maintenance/Misplaced namespaces

If you can't do this, just tell me. I certainly don't intend to add pressure to your volunteer work. But I'd find these really helpful. Thank you. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:33, 7 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Before the completion of this project, Administrators are Necessary for this project who can take control of Violation and Abusive and irrelevant words or topics in that language. Being a Native speaker of Saraiki I request you to make me administrator of this wiki if you can't, help me in this field. Thanks in advanceReply
You can put in a request to be a test administrator at I:RFTA. If there is a Community Portal or similar page within the test, it is a good idea to announce there that you are making a request, so that people can comment if they wish. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:47, 14 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ladin Wikipedia edit

Hi Danny, My name is Alexander Senoner and I am a native speaker of the Ladin language. I would like to contribute to creating a Ladin version of Wikipedia and bringing it online. I have seen that such a project has been ongoing for several years, but it is not yet online. As I don't have a lot of experience with Wikipedia, I don't understand exactly what the reason is that it is not yet online. I went to Wikimedia Incubator, at page Wp/lld and checked the localization requirements. If I understand right, is one problem the fact that there are more than 500 basic Wikipedia pages that have to be translated? Otherwise, what can I do to contribute to bringing it online as soon as possible? Thank you for your help!

Hi, You was deleted [[6]] for that it was unused, I want use from this on my Articles Can you recreate for me? sultanselim baloch talk 06:17, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Sultanselim baloch: The template that Danny deleted was an unprefixed template. The prefixed template {{Wp/bcc/Infobox}} exists, and you can use it. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:32, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
