incubator: wiki/Wy/bsEdit

Hi @MF-Warburg could you please direct me to the original proposal for opening wiki/Wy/bs as I would love to know more about it and current status/prospects. I see that no other language from SEE has even initiated incubation of Wikivoyage, so I would like to contribute to development of this instance if there is any healthy basis and good reason for doing that (as we are post-war region, it can also be super-problematic). I am active on most SouthEastEurope Wikipedias and multiple multi-lingual projects as Wikimedian commited to education, outreach, diversity and GLAM work (no die-hard, many edits, single instance Wikipedian). I also started an initiative that could help invite other people Best wishes --Zblace (talk) 09:11, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello! There is no formal request for that project. The only article that has ever been created is Wy/bs/Bosna i Hercegovina from 2016. The Main Page, as you can see, is completely broken and, to be honest, it would be best to delete this all as abandoned. The Wy/bs page itself was created by a long-term abuser also in 2016 who created a lot of such pages without ever having an intent to start these projects. --MF-W {a, b} 14:35, 1 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MF-Warburg ok that sounds like no healthy basis :-) I agree deletion is best.
I also wrote another related forward looking question and asking here: Would it be possible to Incubate test wiki with content in macro - poly-centric languages like ISO 639:hbs and have content contributed by all with adequate semantic data and meta info attached + displayed? What is the best pathway to go towards this? --Zblace (talk) 05:37, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
User:Zblace: In principle this is possible. It would be good to discuss it first of course. Especially for hbs, the relation to the existing shwiki and shwiktionary should be clear. If you have an idea for such a project, you can make a meta request (or ask on m:Talk:Langcom first), so Langcom can discuss it. I'm not quite sure what you mean about the semantic data - use of the language in Wikidata? --MF-W {a, b} 16:38, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MF-Warburg OK - will ask and then if OK advance to formulate request. As for semantic data I am only as of recentlychearing that linked data will be used also on other wiki projects beyond Commons (and its connection to Wikidata), so I am hopeful of that being useful. -- Zblace (talk) 04:40, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I just realized SR was not much better than BS. --Zblace (talk) 14:28, 9 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
User:Zblace: Well, at least it has a few more pages :P – It is an unfortunate, but unavoidable thing that test-projects are started in Incubator all the time which are then abandoned. Many are started by just one person, while for approval, inevitably a group of several editors will be needed. But maybe you'll be able to reuse some of the elements. --MF-W {a, b} 04:21, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hm...yes but very few more (mostly sceleton articles)... Would it be possible for this one to move from SR into HBS as it anyway includes SR standard -- Zblace (talk) 14:26, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
User:Zblace: That's certainly possible. You might also be interested in this comment from User:Amire80 who says that given the state of the software, it might be most feasible to have one project in Cyrillic (using the code sr) and one in Latin-script. -- MF-W {a, b} 20:01, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I do not have anything against Cyrilic-SR and Latin-HBS being separate instances until there is a better tech in place (maybe also some of the tensions will difuse in time). For now just starting to experiment on test incubator would be useful and amount of content will not be huge quickly anyway anytime soon. --Zblace (talk) 20:14, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
How does one retract request for test-admin status? --Zblace (talk) 15:14, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's already marked as not done, you don't need to do anything more. -- MF-W {a, b} 12:44, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How we will see unregistered usersEdit

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Unable to create any new articleEdit

I am unable to create any new article in Wp/omp test wiki. While trying to create so, the process is automatically blocked. But I can edit the existing articles in the Wp/omp. What is the problem behind this? Can it be fixed? Haoreima (talk) 15:59, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That's because it is an extinct language and these are not eligible for new projects. --MF-W {a, b} 16:39, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But I can create new article in Wp/enm a few minutes ago. Why? Isn't enm the same thing as Omp? Haoreima (talk) 16:40, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes. But it's exempt because it already had so many articles. Same as grc. This is a very awkward temporary solution however. --MF-W {a, b} 16:48, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
To the best of my knowledge, omp has more articles than enm. What about it? Haoreima (talk) 16:50, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As a bureaucrat of incubator, could you do something? Please do something, Sir! Haoreima (talk) 01:44, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Maybe it’s possible to let test wikis in extinct languages that have content to exist in the incubator and just not allow creating new ones? That being said, omp wp has quite a few articles. -Gifnk dlm 2020 Happy New Year 🎄❄️⛄️🎇 (talk) 11:58, 7 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tyap WikipediaEdit

Hi MF-Warburg, how are you? I am writing to you in order to ask what does the wiki in Tyap need to be approved? We have three people working on it everyday, the MediaWiki messages have already been translated and the number of articles growws each day. Is there anything else we need to do? Thanks in advance. --Caro de Segeda (talk) 21:29, 17 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Category issue in Marhsallese WiktionaryEdit

I just created new category Wt/mh/Jemānāe, then cause all entries linked to the Jemānāe category, I thought it may cause by template Wt/mh/NUMBEROFARTICLES, I edited the template many times to resolve the issue but neither are work (see the template's edit history).

How to make all entries unlist Jemānāe category, I saw other project with "Template" category are no problem.

I am working to Marshallese Wiktionary, added new entries at least 2 of day.

Note the Marshallese word Jemānāe is meaning "template", I has been added the Marshallese word to English Wiktionary, to speculate the word English meaning to extend that would be to the meaning. If you find accurately name than Jemānāe, please let's to me know. ☆ ☀Wea☁ther ☂ Top☃ Wiz❄ard ☆ 16:36, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Revived Languages on IncubatorEdit

What are the current terms regarding revived languages with valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 codes to have a test on Incubator? Other than Wikisource. If possible can you link me what it says also. MichaelDMelvin23 (talk) 15:20, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Marshallese WikipediaEdit

Hi! I would like to ask you why did you delete the pages created by CreeperYeeter for the Marshallese Wikipedia. Is there any issue? I would also like to take this opportunity to ask you what does the wiki in Tyap need to be approved? Thanks in advance. --Caro de Segeda (talk) 07:21, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

He is a long-term abuser who doesn't actually speak Marshallese. Tyap is under discussion in Langcom currently. --MF-W {a, b} 13:47, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks Caro de Segeda (talk) 14:25, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

What do you mean? You can redirect the page to have it refer to the correct page or you can use {{delete}} to request a deletion. --MF-W {a, b} 14:35, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Moving pages as a test adminEdit

Hi, would it be okay for me to move pages without creating redirects outside of my test wiki? (For now, I would use the right on Wn/nan pages in the Help namespace). - Xbspiro (talk) 17:55, 9 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please feel free to do so. --MF-W {a, b} 19:53, 9 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please reviewEdit

Hello. I blocked the account Ckxkxkxkdk due to vandalism. See e.g. this deleted page, although there's colorfull language on the rest of his contributions mixed with apparently good contributions. Please let me know if you want this investigated further. Best regards, --MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:50, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

User:MarcoAurelio: thanks for noticing this and blocking the account. This is a known troll (the combination of languages he alleges to speak change all the time and are highly unlikely, those are machine translations). If you have some time for a sockpuppet investigation, that would be cool! --MF-W {a, b} 23:41, 6 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Kabardian WiktionaryEdit

Dear Mr. Warburg! All our team was very happy to see on the Incubator Main Page that the Kabardian Wiktionary might soon get its own site... Then, suddenly, about two weeks ago, the Kabardian Wiktionary was removed from the list. Could I kindly ask you what the reason behind this removal was? Was it because of the temporary inactivity of several of our editors, or was it a result of sanctions? They mysteriously coincided. We are working at remedying the situation with editors - we have been hit hard by Covid... If it is a result of sanctions, I would kindly ask that you reconsider. Over their history, the Circassians have suffered no less than than the Ukrainians... First the 100-year war with Russia, then the banishment of many Circassions from their homeland in 1864. A large part of the Circassion populaton lives even today in Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Israel, Germany and the US... I am an American Citizen. Asiyat Bijo is a Kabardian teacher in Turkey. You can read about the sitatuion in Wikipedia... I would like to know if there is any way we can remedy this situation and get the Kabardian Wiktionary reinstated as a candidate for its own site?--Rhdkabardian (talk) 13:31, 6 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just see the history of the page...: [1] --MF-W {a, b} 23:39, 6 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Dear Mr Warburg! Thank you for pointing out the explanation. I had previously been unable to find it. I am very happy it wasn't sanctions! I will try to encourage our editors to increase their activity in the upcoming months!))--Rhdkabardian (talk) 13:00, 7 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Dear Mr. Warburg!
We are unable to continue our work on the Kabardian Wikipedia because we are constantly getting a message that the Metadata doesn`t correspond to the Dictionary Entry. Is this serious, or will it go away soon? Is there anything we can do to fix it? We can also not send messages from the Kabardian site since it always generates an error "Error contacting the Parsoid/RESTBase server (HTTP 404)" upon send. We thank you in advance for any assistance you can give!)) Rhdkabardian (talk) 10:21, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Request for Campidanese (sro) qualificationEdit

We need some help

The Wikipedia project in Sardu campidanesu - Lìngua sarda campidanesa - Lingua Campidanese (Wp/sro) [2] has already many pages and many categories, but it has a problem: the portal of translatewiki [3] contains an error, because there is the writing sro: Logudorese Sardinian, sardu logudoresu. Logudorese (src) is another language of Sardinia and has its own portal on translatewiki [4], where there is the error that refers to Campidanese; but Logudorese does not yet have a wikipedia project (Wp/src).

Campidanese is not an enabled language [5] and a request is now made to enable it. Thanks in advance for your attention. --Fausta Samaritani (talk) 19:27, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

For this issue to be fixed, you need to ask on, which I see you have already done. I cannot do anything in this regard. --MF-W {a, b} 19:48, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I ask if it is possible to import the page sc:Mogoresu ([6]) from sc:wikipedia in the wiki project in Campadinese (Wp/sro).--Fausta Samaritani (talk) 07:30, 25 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, that would be possible. --MF-W {a, b} 11:13, 26 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Is this import reserved for an administrator, or can a user do it?--Fausta Samaritani (talk) 09:30, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Administrators can do it, see I:Import requests. --MF-W {a, b} 11:47, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Blocking LTAsEdit

Some LTAs sometimes reform in the future, like me. You should only prevent emailing and editing the LTA's talk page if they are likely to abuse these features. Thanks! Faster than Thunder (talk) 22:11, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

What makes you assume I don't block LTAs who are likely to abuse these features? --MF-W {a, b} 22:20, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't assume that, I just wonder why your LTA blocks all have email and talk page editing disabled. Faster than Thunder (talk) 23:25, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So why don't you simply ask about them instead of coming at me with some weird "advice"? --MF-W {a, b} 23:38, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Jon Harald Sơby, has made, in the last 24 hours, almost 1800 edits with his JhsBot, on Wp/sdc. The page list that appears on the page [10] has been completely changed, creating confusion and preventing an easy search of our pages. I asked Jon Harald Sơby to delete all the edits made with JhsBot. Grateful for an answer Fausta Samaritani (talk) 02:06, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Greetings @MF-Warburg

Can you please help me with steps, advice or guides on how to make a Wiktionary in my language available. I have been working on it for few months, with another native speaker. We already have a wikipedia of the same language (tumwiki) and I am a sysop there. This Wiktionary will be so helpful when available.

Please help.

Here is our Wiktionary main page.

Thank you.

Tumbuka Arch (talk) 06:23, 15 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello Tumbuka Arch! Congratulations on starting the Wt/tum test-project here in Incubator. As far as I can see, so far you made 36 edits and Anthonymunthali44 made 2. For approving a test-project so that it can become its own wiki outside of the Incubator, the Language Committee wants there to be at least several regular contributors who have edited over some months and created a sizeable number of articles/entries. Also, it is required that the MediaWiki interface be translated more completely into Tumbuka (see here for details: the most important messages, currently at 73,51%, need to be translated completely). --MF-W {a, b} 12:07, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wy/nb pagesEdit

Some months ago, you reverted some edits to Wy/nb so now it's kept as a redirect to Wy/no, plus you deleted some pages with Wy/nb prefix, but one month ago someone re-created two pages Wy/nb/Hovedside and Wy/nb/forente stater, should both be deleted again, or should Wy/nb be restored as a sane test project info page? (PS: there's a meta RFL for Wy/nb available). Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:44, 15 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I just deleted the request, as it was created by a locked LTA without any substance. For the rest, I would trust the judgement of User:Jon Harald Søby. --MF-W {a, b} 11:34, 15 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

moving pagesEdit

hello @MF-Warburg-san, i got this message while moving pages without leaving a redirect "As an anti-abuse measure, you are limited from performing this action too many times in a short space of time, and you have exceeded this limit. Please try again in a few minutes."

as a test wiki administrator i didn't think that there should be a limit for what i am doing, because at least wiki administrators are trusted with their tasks. Sakura emad (talk) 23:06, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi dear, MF-Warburg!

Incomplete import of nawiki contentEdit

I see only 237 main-namespace pages from the Nauruan Wikipedia got imported to here (having titles ranging from "Chris Pine" to "Equitorial Guinea"), but 2158 main-namespace pages (ranging from "+61" to "日本") were deleted from the wiki. Looks like something went seriously wrong with the importing. No? (Also, while all 38 "Talk:" pages got here, none of the pages in the other prefixed namespaces — "Category:", "Template:", etc. — did.) - dcljr (talk) 01:22, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm not yet done. --MF-W {a, b} 07:58, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hmm. OK, but wouldn't it be better to finish importing the pages to here before deleting them on the wiki (I mean, in the future)? Surely there's no benefit to doing it the other way 'round…? - dcljr (talk) 10:25, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It would be, but it's impossible, as the Incubator extension blocks even the importing of pages to that prefix while the wiki is still open. --MF-W {a, b} 10:26, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
User:Dcljr: everything should be imported now. --MF-W {a, b} 15:13, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Adminship for wp/mvfEdit

Hello @MF-Warburg, it seems like the incubator of mongolian wikipedia in traditional script lacking active development and group of people including me are willing to actively contribute to it, especially in the user interface and translation. Is it possible to add me into the adminship? I have seen that wp/ase already have vertical-lr UI interface. We would really want to see this incubator as well like that. Anand.orkhon (talk) 10:38, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I already see some vertical content on Wp/mvf/Sedvüüd. I am not sure what you are requesting here. Something related to the vertical script or something related to becoming a test-admin? --MF-W {a, b} 10:42, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
