Welcome to Wikimedia Incubator! At the right there are some important links, and here are some tips and info:

  • If you haven't created a user page yet, please create one with for example Babel templates on it.
  • You can select your interface language in your preferences.
  • If you make articles, templates or categories, don't forget to add a prefix!
  • If your knowledge of English is good, you can help with translating pages to other languages you know, so more people can understand them!
  • If you want to translate the interface, please go to Translatewiki.net and follow their instructions.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them on Incubator:Community Portal.

Chinook Jargon edit

Did you just--- put the main page--- on your profile? POSSUM chowg (talk) 17:20, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Just to save it in case you didn't like the one I created. Jon Gua (talk) 17:23, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Do you have any problem with my edits to your version the Chinook Jargon Wikipedia main page? POSSUM chowg (talk) 04:56, 13 January 2024 (UTC) (P.S. you can still find it in the page history.)Reply

Not at all, I think they look great :) Jon Gua (talk) 08:21, 13 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I put a link at the top of the main page, allowing you to access the old version as well as the new one... in case any old editors return to CJ Wikipedia. The new main page has been retained.POSSUM chowg (talk) 03:55, 15 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

May I have your email address, please? Jon Gua (talk) 11:21, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's haonlsdnalwor@gmail.com, but in return, may I please have the general area in which you live (I live in Ventura County, California, U.S.A.)? Yeah, I say we'll have to exchange a few things here and there... POSSUM chowg (talk) 15:07, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi edit

Just want to inform you that Meitei language is now available (approved yesterday) in Microsoft Translator also in both Meitei script as well as Latin script. The formal name of the language is "Manipuri". If searched as "Meitei" in Microsoft Translator, there will be no result. :-):-) Btw, I am still ready to do translations for you whenever in need. Haoreima (talk) 13:43, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much for the information and for you help. Could you please translate this to Meitei in Latin script?
Glosa is an artificial auxiliary language designed for international communication. It has several characteristics:
  • Its pronunciation is regular, and its spelling is phonetic.
  • Its structure is very simple and based on meaning.
  • It is an analytical language with no inflections or genders. A small number of words handle grammatical relations.
  • Above all, Glosa is neutral and truly international due to the use of Latin and Greek roots, which are used in the international scientific vocabulary.
Thanks. Jon Gua (talk) 13:47, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Wasn't it a few days ago that I translated the same passages, except in Latin script? Are they different? Haoreima (talk) 13:51, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

We've almost hit 200 pages on Chinook Jargon Wikipedia! edit

We're at 197 pages, and there are three contributors on CJ Wikipedia. Because of this, I got an idea for how we could "celebrate": I write a page, ISO 369-3 nds writes a page, and you write a page that we could translate. How does that sound? POSSUM chowg   (talk) 15:30, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

WE'VE DONE IT! edit

We hit 200 pages (including categories!) on the Chinook Jargon Wikipedia! Thank you so much guys! POSSUM chowg   (talk) 17:32, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, you are the main editor here and you have revived this Wikipedia, please keep up the good work. Jon Gua (talk) 17:37, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Glad to have you here, though! You've been a big help. POSSUM chowg   (talk) 18:19, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Chinook Jargon Wikipedia, again edit

I finished the James Douglas page, I'll keep going. POSSUM chowg   (talk) 16:52, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Alex, The guy from Kaltash Wawa (a silly CJ "newspaper" website which I occasionally visit) has spoken. edit

Note for any Chinook Jargon Discord users reading this: this is not directed towards any user in particular, aside from Alex. Some of you people really do seem like good guys.
Hopefully User:ISO 369-3 nds will see this as well. So I decided to visit discord to see if I could recruit anyone for the CJ Wikipedia. So, Jon Gua, after you came to the Chinook Jargon Discord to talk about the Chinook Jargon Wikipedia, a bunch of people visited my Incubator profile. Some guys saw that I had referred to the Kaltash Wawa (kaltashwawa.ca) website as a "failed successor to Kamloops Wawa that has been turned into a glorified shitpost website" on my profile page. Now I did not mean that as an insult, if you look at the Kaltash Wawa's "about" page, it says that it started off as an attempt at a Duployan Shorthand newspaper but spiraled into something else (note that I had included it under my "Websites that may come in handy for Chinook Jargon learners" section, something that was completely ignored by the discord.) For browsers of a silly website with a name that basically means "worthless rambling" in CJ, these guys seem to take things awfully seriously.
They also claimed that my user page had a "negative aura" to it, citing everything from my choice of words when talking about Dave Robertson's blog to how bad I said my internet connection was. Some people looked at the CJ Wikipedia itself as well. There were plenty of mentions of grammatical errors and butchered Duployan shorthand (but that was to be expected, of course. I know my Chinook is far from perfect.) Some had gone a step further and compared the state of the CJ Wikipedia to the Scots Wikipedia scandal from a few years back (look it up if you don't know about that.)

Now for the important part. edit

When I came back to talk to the Discord group, I said that I never meant to be insulting to anyone there, that I knew my CJ wasn't great, and that I was open to corrections in my CJ grammar (unlike the guy from Scots Wikipedia, apparently). The Discord users were far more civil when I actually talked to them, although some still seemed skeptical. I managed to get a hold of Alex (founder of Kaltash Wawa) and we discussed a few things.
Alex said that the grammar on the wiki could use some improvement, and that both me and ISO had made a few "beginner's mistakes", and that maybe we should attend the "chinuk loʔloʔ" gatherings more often. Well, alright then, maybe we could both learn a thing or two. POSSUM chowg   (talk) 04:23, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey Jon Gua! Check the incubator main page! Do you notice anything interesting? edit
