A small technical problem

In the page Template:Translations, I guess the code needs to be edited so that only the languages are shown. I am not having much knowledge in editing them.Adithyak1997 (talk) 17:52, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Time Zone error

Can any gentleman fix this time zone error? in this article here [1] thanks --RAChitrali 04:36, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you think is an error. The article contains the template . It includes the parameter |UTC offset = +5. And the template's functionality says when there is a UTC offset, it is going to look for an article called Wp/khw/UTC+5 (or whatever the offset is). So it's doing what it's supposed to do. Project renaming request for Wp/ais

To all users that are more or less interested in contributing this Sakizaya test-Wikipedia:

As per the officially modified SIL change request 2018-015, and especially its official comment, the SIL International has in principle rejected the simple renaming of language name, but:

  1. Retired the ais for "Nataoran Amis". and
  2. Created the szy for "Sakizaya"

It's some what even confused by me and to me that, however, as this test project has a very large scale of contents, renaming ais -> szy works are really not easy, thus I need a lot of Incubator volunteers to help, that how many pages and/or source codes should we rename. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 16:04, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I finished, and I think I got it right. Someone should please go back and check me. That now having been said:
  • I have marked the request on Meta as eligible.
  • As noted there, someone needs to go to translatewiki.net and straighten things out over there.
  • In the process of fixing the categories, I got the strong sense that this test is overcategorized. Consider merging categories having fewer than three entries into either higher or sideways-related categories.
  • I'm going to let these changes settle down for a couple of weeks before looking into whether I should put this in front of LangCom for approval. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:55, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wp/frs

It came to my attention that activity at Wp/frs has started (project to create an East Frisian Low Saxon Wikipedia). East Frisian Low Saxon is a dialect of Low Saxon (nds) and contributions in East Frisian Low Saxon are welcome on nds: (and we have had active contributors from East Frisia for more than a decade).

The dialect has some distinct features but in written form is generally mutually intelligible with other Low Saxon dialects (by the way, the other dialects have their own distinct features differentiating each of them from all of the others, but we can cope with that on nds.wp).

The project was started by User:Neronno‎ whose first edit was deleting the notice about using nds.wp and unilaterally changing the status of the project to 'open'.

I would like to know what is the right path of action. I'd like to close the project and return to the previous status (referring to nds.wp). And I would also like to change Wp/wep to that same status.

Low Saxon is a small language and nds.wp is a small project despite 15 years of constant activity by a small but stable community. Opening a second Low Saxon project could potentially divide our limited forces.

I asked Neronno whether he wants to participate in nds.wp instead, but he declined and fervently argued that a separate project is necessary because of the distinct identity of the Frisians. To me it sounds like an attempt to create a tool to nation-build a Frisian nation ("We want our language to remain Frisian and be more Frisian in the future").

Thanks in advance for any help! --::Slomox:: >< 07:55, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Slomox:We dont want to build our own nation!

We just want to write our language like it is. There is a writing from Holger Weigelt that was rejected in the nds-Wikipedia. Also writings used in the Doornkaat-Koolmann arent compatible with the nds-Wikipedia. It features Āā Ēē Īī Ōō Ūū and Áá Éé Íí Óó Úú. I think these letters are not accepted either in the nds-Wikipedia. We want to use this writing in our Wikipedia, because it represents our speciality. Our language is Frisio-Saxon[1] as special form. Is that so hard to understand? @StevenJ81: said that it is legit to start a test. Since then, only 14 days passed. I think you are motivated politically or something like that. Why delete this test? It just started. Why prevent us from creating an East Frisian Wikipedia? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Neronno (discussioncontribs) 09:34, 5 February 2019 (UTC)‎.[reply]

I was unaware of Incubator:Requests for starting a test#Eastern Frisian Wikipedia where Neronno was advised to take this path of action.
Nonetheless I think it is the wrong path of action.
Why prevent us from creating an east frisian Wikipedia? Because it already exists: at nds.wp!
Neronno is right that we have orthography requirements at nds.wp. These exclude Holger Weigelt and ten Doornkaat-Koolman (to emulate the reading experience of the Holger Weigelt orthography for English speakers, try to read the Norfuk Wikipedia; you recognize the words but it is really hard to parse). But when I talked to Neronno on his talk page he answered in East Frisian in an orthography that is perfectly legible on nds.wp. --::Slomox:: >< 09:13, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No it doesn't exist there. Do you speak this language? The East Frisian (Frisio-Saxon) language? No? So you cannot decide that it exists in the nds-Wikipedia.

This orthography I used there doesn't represent the language. Let us do the test and let the language committee decide as @Slomox: said. What is this you are trying to do? If you delete our work we will start to build it up again. We are in contact with the representative for minorities in Germany. He supports us. Neronno (talk) 09:21, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is legitimate to start a test. That having been said: There is no guarantee that LangCom will decide that this test is eligible. In fact, I think it is very likely that LangCom will ultimately ask you to merge this test into nds.wp. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:09, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So this project is suitable for Category:Incubator:Test wikis/open-but-rejected? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 15:37, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Slomox, Neronno, StevenJ81, Steinbach, Eitanish: Although I'm having not enough knowledge on German languages, I would ask: What's the actual status of the de facto Frisian languages? If people who speak East Frisian as their mother tongue think that parallel-contributing on Low German Wikipedia isn't fair indeed, then why is there still no reason for founding a separate project for East Frisian? Do we remember the Atikamekw Wikipedia? Their contents were available at Cree Wikipedia for nearly a decade, but what happened now? They split their contents from crwiki. I'd love to ask, are there any pages that state which cases splitting a group of foo language contents from bar project are suitable, and which are not? I don't see any yardsticks for this, and I even searched for it, the results are generally: 0 results. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 15:55, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Liuxinyu970226: I have nearly no knowledge about the situation of Algonquian languages, but the Wikipedia articles tell me that the situation is special. Not only orthographical differences but a whole different script for example.
So I assume that people with knowledge about Algonquian have made an intelligent decision.
You said: If people who speak East Frisian as their mother tongue think that parallel-contributing on Low German Wikipedia isn't fair indeed. That's too general. East Frisians have been contributing to nds.wp since the earliest days of that wiki (since 2003). They never complained. It's only now that Neronno sees a problem. He claims to have a whole group behind him, but neither Neronno nor any of those other people have ever spoken to us at nds.wp. --::Slomox:: >< 07:36, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The Atikamekw project had a number of differences from this case, as Liuxinyu970226 has said above. (And Liuxinyu, thank you for dropping Wp/frs into that category.)
Look, any language with an ISO 639-3 code (excepting constructed languages and macrolanguages) starts off with a presumption of being allowed a project. Where a project like this gets hung up is on eligibility criterion #3, which basically asks: "Is it too close to something else to warrant a separate project?" And there are two distinct reasons for this rule:
  • There is a concern that a narrowly defined project will be more subject to political and cultural bias than a widely defined project. Consider if British English, US English, Australian English, etc., had ISO 639-3 codes: we'd have different encyclopedias with different points of view. Far better from an encyclopedia point of view to have one project required to cover all points of view, as long as everyone can understand the contents. This is a real problem with the languages of the former Yugoslavia, most of whose projects predate the current rule.
  • There is a concern that having multiple projects will dilute the pool of prospective contributors to each project, and then force that diluted pool to provide substantially identical content for an awful lot of subjects.
All that said, LangCom is far more familiar with European languages than with languages from most other places. So for indigenous languages of places outside Europe, there is somewhat of a bias not to apply criterion #3 strictly, while there is a bias to apply it strictly to European languages. (Criterion #3 has been applied to non-European requests, though, I'll note.) If and when @Neronno has built something up large enough to be considered for eligibility, I think s/he will have a very difficult time proving that this project can stand on its own linguistically, especially given that many of the arguments given so far have a strong cultural/ethnic component to them. But s/he can try. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:22, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@StevenJ81 Thanks. For now we will kind of pause the project for some time / have less activity. There is a separate orthography by Holger Weigelt, we want to use now. We do some rework on a dictonary, to use translatesoftware, helping us to translate Wikipedia articles. We know that there is a risk. Neronno (talk) 06:39, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Segoe UI font switch for Devanagari on Windows 10 Firefox browser

For some reason, the Devanagari font on Firefox get switched on Firefox to Segoe UI. This only affects latest Firefox updates. Any questions on how to fix this so the font gets switched back to Arial. --47.156.0.180 21:04, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'll share some thoughts, but m:Tech is a better place to ask.
  • Part of the question here is whether you are allowing the site to choose fonts or whether you are relying on the browser to choose fonts.
    • If the setting is already that the site should choose fonts, but we don't actually offer a preference, then the fallback is your browser's fonts.
    • In this case, you could ask on phabricator—and probably better first to run an RfC on Meta—for WMF to serve Arial as default for Devanagari.
  • Otherwise:

nap.ws importing is broken

I cannot import anything from mul:s: to nap:s: in the Page/Paggena namespace. E.g. I have tried porting mul:s:Page:'A gelosia (1904).djvu/1 to nap:s:Paggena:'A gelosia (1904).djvu/1 and I get Import failed: No pages to import. over and over again. I've never a wiki from mul.ws before--is there something that I'm missing here? @Jon Harald Søby:, as well who ported the main namespace. —Justin (koavf)TCM 21:09, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Koavf: Which method do you use for importing? That specific page doesn't seem to exist even in the oldwikisource (only pages 2 and 3 have been created), so that would explain it for that one in particular. On napwikisource, go to Special:Import and choose source wiki (oldwikisource), paste in the page name and always check the box "Assign edits to local users where the named user exists locally". For the author namespace you'll need to specify to use the "Autore" namespace, but for other namespaces the default choice ("Import to default locations") should suffice. For information, pinging @Corainn, Sabak5388, 黃金文, Liuxinyu970226: Please share with anyone else you think may be interested.

Now that the ISO code issue has been resolved, this project effectively meets all the requirements for project approval. There are just a couple of things we have to overcome before going to LangCom, neither of which the community itself can do much about:

  1. Solving a phabricator task aimed at updating all the references in the infrastructure software to the right language code, and subsequently getting all the translations at translatewiki.net moved to the correct code.
  2. Solving a broader issue that is preventing any wikis from being created for now. (The creation of two approved wiki projects is stalled over this.)

In the meantime, then, please continue to stay active here at Incubator. I would very greatly suggest that your focus should not be so much on creating new pages. Instead, focus on building out any pages that are currently stubs and turning them into more complete articles.

If you have any questions, please let me know. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:59, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Probably a good idea. So I did it. Well, I actually had to create the category page first. But then I did it. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:52, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Script error

I am not able to find the script error in the page Module:Wp/khw/Navbar/doc. The error goes when I remove the first line in the doc starting with module rating. Please check if somebody can solve it. Adithyak1997 (talk) 18:02, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There really aren't so many coding experts here. I do think it's pretty unusual for a module to call a template, which is effectively what you're doing. Here are a couple of thoughts:
  • Move the module rating template call into the module page itself, with "noincludes" around it. (I don't know if that works on a module page.)
  • Maybe better: rewrite the module rating template as a module, in a way where it only functions on the module page itself, but won't then be called when the module is called, if that's possible.
But I'm no expert on this. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:47, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I need quite sometime to check that. Adithyak1997 (talk) 15:54, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@StevenJ81: I have a small doubt regarding your solution mentioned above. Actually, what is meant by 'it's pretty unusual for a module to call a template'. Do you mean that the Module calls the template Module rating?Adithyak1997 (talk) 17:19, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I guess the same problem is seen in the page Module:Wp/mni/Citation/CS1/doc. I don't know to which wiki this doc file belongs to. Adithyak1997 (talk) 17:41, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, I'd like to see if someone knowing more about it than I do will jump in here. StevenJ81 (talk) 20:28, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Adithyak1997: The problem was that some magic word-like template produced an output containing the tracking category . I don’t know which one it was, but I replaced all magic word-like template with the actual magic words in Template:Wp/khw/Module rating, and it fixed the issue. (I found the error message by searching for “Scribunto” in the HTML source code (Ctrl+U in most browsers). It’s encoded, but the error message itself is mostly readable without decoding.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 17:37, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is a proposal on Meta to modify the language proposal policy. The proposed changes can be found here, with discussion on that page's talk page. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:54, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Translation extension behavior

Is it normal that on pages marked for translation I cannot edit sections in the original article? I get the "Cannot find section" error. - Xbspiro (talk) 22:33, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Xbspiro: In which page did you encounter such an error (I don't know anything about it). Adithyak1997 (talk) 09:36, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Adithyak1997:See Help:FAQ in English for example. Seemingly if you break the title marking ( === title === ) so that it starts in one line and ends in another, the section edit button won't work. And it is done regularly to insert <translate> tags. - Xbspiro (talk) 18:57, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Xbspiro: Just check that page history. Adithyak1997 (talk) 19:02, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Adithyak1997: Yeah, that is one example. - Xbspiro (talk) 19:14, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Xbspiro, Adithyak1997: It is normal behavior on these pages. If this is caused by the issue you mention above, @Xbspiro (and it might be, I don't know), I think you will find that the extension itself breaks the titles when it runs the markup routine. Working hard to avoid that would be difficult. It would mean you would absolutely have to add the <translate> tags for every change yourself, manually, which is a lot of work. In general, if I have to edit a page marked for translation, I just edit the whole page, which always works. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:09, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@StevenJ81, Adithyak1997: I suggest adding __NOEDITSECTION__ to these pages. @StevenJ81 - section editing works on pages with correct title markings, such as IRC, so problems with that are the main culprit. Seemingly it was a human choice to insert translate tags like that. I would correct the markup, but I am not sure if I can do that as a regular user. And if I were to proceed, markup to all translations (assuming they would survive modifying their borders) should be added by hand. Could we create a test-page for translation? I know that this is a low priority issue, so saying no is totally okay. - Xbspiro (talk) 22:55, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Adithyak1997, Xbspiro: I'm sure you know the extension better than I do, Xbspiro. On one hand, I'm pretty sure that you can correct the markup as long as the page is not fully protected for some reason. (What would happen next is that the header on the page would say "changes since last marked for translation"—see the Main Page right now for an example—and then I'd need to come by and click that to finally incorporate whatever markup changes you have made.
On the other hand, these pages are not supposed to be edited frequently, and I don't think it's much of a problem to tell people to edit the full page on the rare occasions that needs to happen. Is it worth correcting all that markup—and at least nominally requiring translators to go in and check translations—just so those few pages can be infrequently edited by section? I wouldn't, myself, but the community can decide if wants that.
I'm certainly happy to create a translation sandbox if you want. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:46, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

wminc-infopage-title

Hello. I have a question about "wminc-infopage-title" in Template:Test wiki. As you can see in "MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-..." (e.g. MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-p), it is ordered by language name and project name, such as "Assamese Wikibooks", if user language is English. And it is the same in Chinese (阿萨姆语维基教科书; "Assamese Wikibooks"). But in some cases, it is ordered by project name and language name, such as "위키책 아삼어" ("Wikibooks Assamese") in Korean and "ウィキブックスアッサム語" ("Wikibooks Assamese") in Japanese, and it is seems to be a little awkward. So, I want to change this like English, but I don't know where it is. Could somebody help me about this? Thanks. --Garam (talk) 14:51, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Garam: It may very well be that different languages have different conventions as to how to handle these things. And to be perfectly honest, we don't necessarily do it consistently in English, either. For example, compare "Assamese Wiktionary" here on Incubator to "Wiktionary Assamese" on Meta. As long as what we're talking about is clear and understandable—and in this case I think it is—I don't think it is productive to fuss with this. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:17, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@StevenJ81: Sorry? My point is that "language name + project name" is better than "project name + language name" in Korean or Japanese language, like English just now. I didn't say that we will change english name order. Please change your language to Korean or Japanese on Special:Preferences, and visit Wt/as page and see subheading. Then, I think you will understand my point. Thanks. --Garam (talk) 15:53, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Garam: I fully understand your point. I'm saying it doesn't matter enough to do the work to fix it. We use both word orders from time to time in English, and it doesn't really matter; people fully understand what we're talking about. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:41, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@StevenJ81: Of course, in English it doesn't matter. But in Korean or Japanese language it does matter. My second point is why that order between Chinese and Korean/Japanese version in article are different, and how I can make both the same order from "(project) (language)" of Korean/Japanese page to "(language) (project)" such as Chinese page. Thanks. --Garam (talk) 18:46, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Garam: OK. I'll look into it. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:48, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Garam: I think I have an answer for you. Look at the following files and tell me if they're in the right order or not: translatewiki:MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-p/ko and translatewiki:MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-p/ja. I have a feeling I will need to fix all of the related pages over there. But please tell me first what you would like fixed. StevenJ81 (talk) 20:00, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@StevenJ81: Oh, yes. That is what I am looking forward to. Thanks a lot. I want to fix all, like MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-p/zh-hans type: MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-p/ko, MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-s/ko, MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-t/ko, MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-q/ko, MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-y/ko, MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-b/ko and MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-n/ko. And do you know where do you know where I can translate language name ($1 in MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-p/en)? Because some language names on Incubator are not translated on Korean/Japanese language, such as "Okinawan" of Wt/ryu. Thanks. --Garam (talk) 07:39, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Garam: OK. Here's the plan, then:

  1. The files you gave me are all local Incubator files, not translatewiki files. I am going to fix the first two, just reversing the two elements, then you'll tell me if things look right. If so, I'll do the rest of the local files.
  2. Once those are done, I'll address the first two files on translatewiki. Note that corrections there can take a few days to be downloaded from there to here, so be patient.
  3. If that works, then I'll suggest you create an account at translatewiki—it's not part of the WMF unified login group—request "translator" permission there, and start working on the rest yourself.

OK?
Language names are more complicated. Will address these in a bit. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:59, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

First two done. Please get back to me. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:01, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Garam, StevenJ81: Please see what we the actual Chinese user called them at zh:Template:Wikipedia_editions, following the actual Chinese grammars, we should always call them "XX语维基百科"/"XX語維基百科", currently it's wrongly shown 维基百科 XX语 which violates the Chinese grammar, please rollback the wrong "fix" of MediaWiki:Wminc-infopage-title-p/zh-hans. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 14:53, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Liuxinyu970226: There was no space between when I found it, and no space in your version. Is that correct? StevenJ81 (talk) 15:07, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That MediaWiki page shows "维基百科 $1", please change it back to "$1维基百科", thx. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 15:13, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Revi. TLDR: Garam thinks the info page titles are in the wrong order when in Korean (e.g., they say "Wikipedia Korean" but should say "Korean Wikipedia"). Do you think they're correct or backwards? Or does it even matter? StevenJ81 (talk) 14:45, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
He is correct. I just use English for all wikis so I actually don't give much attention to translations these days. — regards, Revi 15:20, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@StevenJ81 --Garam (talk) 08:47, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Garam: I am going to try to get back to this. Sometime this week I will change the Korean titles. Consistent with the discussion above I am not changing the Chinese titles. Please provide some proof if you want me to change Japanese. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:06, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to edit the local name of a language?

Incubator:Wikis shows that the local name of the Okinawan language is "沖縄口/ウチナーグチ". I would like to know how to remove the "/ウチナーグチ" part. --YukaSylvie (talk) 00:37, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User Preferences Maintenance

I would like to know what is meant by the Test wiki (maintenance). I have got that while visiting the dropdown list of the option Test wiki in the [Preferences] section. Adithyak1997 (talk) 14:48, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That setting is really for Incubator administrators (not test-administrators). It does a couple of things:
  1. You probably know that you cannot create unprefixed pages in the main, template and module namespaces. If you try to go to such an unprefixed page and it doesn't exist (red link), the system will tell you that you can create "Wx/xxx/foobar" (or "Template:Wx/xxx/foobar"). If your test is set to (maintenance), the system will tell you (in either case!) that you can create "Incubator:foobar". In other words, your "test" is the Incubator: namespace. Mostly, that isn't useful if you're not an administrator working on overall project pages.
    • In contrast, if your test is None/all, the system will not name a default page until you tell it what your test preference is. But even so, if you try to create a prefixed page, it will let you.
  2. Similarly, the second set of menus down on the navigation bar at left (at right in RTL projects) is test-specific. If you choose (maintenance), your test becomes the Incubator: namespace, and your recent changes and random page are drawn from there. If you choose None/all, the title changes to "Navigation", and the recent changes and random page cover the entire Incubator.
More often than not, I have some test chosen, because I'm trying to look at a specific test, and selecting it makes navigation much more convenient. When I'm working on overall Incubator maintenance, I choose "(maintenance)". StevenJ81 (talk) 16:20, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
From the details provided by you in point 1, I have a very small suggestion. The option (maintenance) should not be shown to normal users as well as those who have only test wiki right. Do note that this is just a suggestion and not necessary that it must be done. Adithyak1997 (talk) 16:54, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In principle, you're probably right. In practice, (1) we probably wouldn't get a high-enough priority from the developers to bother, and (2) for someone who works on many different tests, as you do, sometimes it may be more convenient for the system not to be assuming what test you're working on. Changing namespace

I have recently deleted the Module named Wp/khw/Module:Arguments due to problem with prefix. I would like to know while moving the template doc named Wp/khw/Module:Arguments/doc, whether the namespace needs to be changed from Main to Template or not. Modules, templates and their documentation go in Module or Template namespace here. Thus Module:Wp/khw/Arguments/doc. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:16, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Issue of user's counting in Catanalysis statistics

It seems to be an issue in statistics (ie [8]). In these, since 2 days, all the edits made are attributed to a "user" named user: which does not exist, while the history of each article created or edited records correctly things.

This is not a fundamental problem, except for activity and eligibility analyzes (number of active contributors and which ones). Thank you. Axel xadolik (talk) 08:46, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The issue keeps up at the beginning of June. It seems general to all the Incubator, because there is also for Khowar [9] or Balinese [10], and all the other tests, I suppose. This is boring. This surely results from a faulty updating of the script of these statistics (by whom?). Thank you. Axel xadolik (talk) 06:50, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I'm the Catanalysis tool author. The script hasn't changed, but the Wikimedia database did. I'll be migrating tools over the next few days; once that happens for catanalysis, the data will be retroactively correct again. —Pathoschild 03:15, 03 June 2019 (UTC)
Catanalysis is migrated; let me know if you notice any issues! —Pathoschild 06:10, 03 June 2019 (UTC)
I have a small doubt. When I checked the user contributions of the wiki Wp/khw, I was able to understand that there were edits from someone with the name (anonymous). Does that mean those with IPs? Also, I would like to inform you that I didn't see any other issues as stated above regarding the contributions of'User:'. Adithyak1997 (talk) 06:17, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, those are edits by users who didn't log in. —Pathoschild 15:40, 03 June 2019 (UTC)
Merci. Axel xadolik (talk) 09:30, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Pathoschild: Hello and thank you. The problem seems effectively solved and the returned results appear consistent.
I searched everywhere but I did not find anything: would there be a tool to obtain a summary view of the comparative progress of the (main) projects in the Incubator? I know it exists for the official Wikipedia, but for the Incubator? Maybe something monthly that would provide information on the number of new articles, the average weight of articles created (number of stubs for example),% of articles without any related category or link inserted, information of this kind, useful to get a synoptic view of the progress of projects and their admissibility by LangCom ...
For my part, about the project Kotava (Wp/avk) which I am responsible for testing, I "tinkered" a small table very poor to try to follow a little (here). But if it exists better, it would be really a plus.
Thank you

—Pathoschild 15:40, 03 June 2019 (UTC)

A proposal for WikiJournals to become a new sister project

Over the last few years, the WikiJournal User Group has been building and testing a set of peer reviewed academic journals on a mediawiki platform. The main types of articles are:

  • Existing Wikipedia articles submitted for external review and feedback (example)
  • From-scratch articles that, after review, are imported to Wikipedia (example)
  • Original research articles that are not imported to Wikipedia (example)

Proposal: WikiJournals as a new sister project

From a Wikipedian point of view, this is a complementary system to Featured article review, but bridging the gap with external experts, implementing established scholarly practices, and generating citable, doi-linked publications.

Removal of a page from a namespace (Wy/ml)

Just visit page Category:Wy/ml/Templates. In that page, I would like to know how I can remove the pages Wy/ml/കേരളം, Wy/ml/താണിക്കുടം and Wy/ml/തെന്മല which are just articles and not a template. I have tried to move the page but since the heading needs to be changed, I was not knowing about a better method which led me to asl the question here. Adithyak1997 (talk) 07:51, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OK. So what happened here is that those pages are inheriting the category from templates that they are using. What you have to do is to go to the templates and enclose the categorization link (i.e., ) in <noinclude></noinclude> tags. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:24, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the solution. Adithyak1997 (talk) 14:39, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ISBN Magic links

I have recently seen from a discussion in English Wikipedia that ISBN,RFC and PMID magic links needs to be replaced by templates. I would like to know whether the same replacement needs to be done on projects in Incubator or not. Adithyak1997 (talk) 14:21, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Magic links are not currently disabled on Incubator, and we have no immediate plans to do so, for two reasons:
  • In active projects, in many cases the people working on the projects know how to create content, but don't know how to code templates. We don't need to make their work more difficult right now.
  • We have many dormant projects, and there is no reason we need the links to become cold in them.
That having been said, magic links may eventually be removed from MediaWiki core, and we may have no choice at some point in the future. Additionally, "best practices" certainly encourage the use of templates in place of the magic links. So if you are able to do this (and you, personally, undoubtedly are), you probably should, especially for projects that seem pretty close to approval review. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:46, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The magic words principle is technically interesting and consumes far fewer client resources than templates. It is more the multiplication of nested templates which can pose problems in term of execution and maintainig.
What I find more harmful in some wikis of the incubator is rather the use of big templates copied from Wikipedia's main wikis in articles where the "real" content does not exceed a few lines. Some text, some contextual images and, above all, a good ranking of categories and many internal links, this is much more interesting and effective. Axel xadolik (talk) 16:27, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@StevenJ81: I was actually planning to run a bot which uses this source code which is currently used in English wikipedia for the same task. If I can use that code to work in AWB, I think I can do it. The problem is that in Incubator, the page name also contain prefixes. So I am planning in asking to JJMC89 to check if he can add a feature to the code so that it can be used here. @Axel xadolik: You told that large codes are used instead of very few lines. But, at a time when all the pages of a Wikipedia being translated into a language in Incubator, won't it require all that lines of code? (Just a doubt. Do note that I have not yet created a single template of my own.) Adithyak1997 (talk) 17:03, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Adithyak1997, Axel xadolik: Axel, I completely agree. People should almost always look to Simple English Wikipedia, or some other wiki where they speak the language, to take templates. Enwiki templates are very involved and use a lot of modules. Most of the time, for projects like we have here, that is completely unnecessary. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:09, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File from commons didn't works

I got problem when try to using this file to the balinese Wikipedia article, Twitter. Can someone fixed this issue. Thanks in advance. Joseagush (talk) 09:16, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That file is not on Commons. It's on English Wikipedia, and is a non-free-use file that can be there based on enwiki's Exemption Doctrine Policy. We have no such policy here; we only allow freely usable media files from Commons here. If you want to include a logo of some kind in your article, pick one from c:Category:Twitter logos. Category reporting a depth exceeded

This category (Category:Pages where expansion depth is exceeded) generated itself automatically (with 3 pages in). Would someone know why and what depth exceeded means in this context? Thanks. Axel xadolik (talk) 21:17, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

See en:Wikipedia:Avoiding MediaWiki expansion depth limit. StevenJ81 (talk) 22:39, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Steven. It's seem to be clear. However, the template works well, without errors nor lacks, and it's an exact copy of an operating template of fr.wp and en:wp. Axel xadolik (talk) 21:18, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Zazaca wikisözlük- Zazaca wikivoyage ve diğerleri

Merhaba, İngilizce bilmediğim için çok özür dilerim. Bir kaç ay önce Xorasan proje teklifi ile geldi. Wikipedia projelerine uzak birisi olarak, gösterildiği şekilde katkı sağlıyorum ama projeler için belirli bir standart prosedür yok. Örneğin ;

Sizlerden ricam belirli şartlar olsun ama çelişki de içermesin. Mesela;

  • proje için 5 ay isteyin. 5 ay dolunca proje açılsın.
  • proje için 5 kullanıcı gerekliyse 5 kullanıcıyı belirtin.
  • Bir yerde hata varsa söyleyin, kullanıcılar düzeltmeye çalışsınlar. Gözlemlediğim kadarıyla insanlar belirli bir süre katkı yaptıktan sonra projenin açılmasına dair umudunu kaybetip çekiliyorlar. Sizlerden ricam İnsanların umudunu söndürmeyin. Buderan (talk) 19:26, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Google translation from Turkish:

Hi, I'm so sorry I didn't speak English. A few months ago Xorasan came up with a project proposal. As a distant person to Wikipedia projects, I contribute as shown, but there is no specific standard procedure for projects. For example ;

  1. They want at least 3 users, some people do little. After two to three months of contribution to other language projects, most users withdraw from the incubator. There are those who are withdrawn because of work or health. (I will not be active in this project after 15 April)
  2. They want a contribution for at least 3 months, but there is no time limit. So the project may last 100 days and may not open for 1000 days. When it comes to European language projects, it takes a shorter opening time, but when it comes to languages in the Americas, Africa and Asia, this is a long time.
  3. Translatewiki.net translations I don't know about this place. I think the projects should be relevant to the language versions. Wikis to be opened in new language versions are required to be prepared. Zazaki Wikipedia has been active for over 10 years but most MediaWiki messages are still in English.

The above-mentioned issues are not only in the zaza language, but also in other language projects. I ask you to have certain conditions, but do not include contradiction. E.g;

  • Ask the project for 5 months. Open the project after 5 months.
  • If 5 users are required for the project, specify 5 users.
  • If there is an error, tell them to try to fix them. As far as I observe, people lose their hope of opening the project after contributing for a certain period of time. I ask you do not extinguish people's hope. Buderan (talk) 19:26, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Translation placed by StevenJ81 (talk) 13:50, 25 February 2019 (UTC) [reply]
@Buderan: I really understand your frustration. Some of the things you write about we are trying to change. Some are in place for a good reason. Let me try to explain some things.
  1. The first reason to need three regular users for at least three months is because we do not want to create a new project, and then have it sit there with no one working on it. Three users for at least three months is the best way we know (so far) of making sure the project stays active once it is opened.
    • We are now trying very hard to make sure that if a project is active for three months it gets approved, and that it doesn't sit for "1000 days" waiting to be approved.
  2. The other reason to need three regular users is so that no project gets approved that is the work of only one person.
  3. There is a project underway at Wikimedia to make Incubator projects easier. It's not so simple, but we're really trying.
  4. Zazaki (Dimli) Wikipedia is an old project that existed before the rules for translatewiki.net existed. At this point, Zazaki (Dimli) has enough translated at translatewiki.net that this will not get in the way of project approvals.
If you have any questions, please let me know. StevenJ81 (talk) (administrator) 14:00, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sizi anlıyorum. Sizler de bizi anlayın lütfen. Her internet sitesinin şartları vardır.

Google translation from Turkish:

I understand you. You guys understand us too, please. Each website has its terms. The conditions were created for you to be an administrator. You have been selected for the conditions. There are some conditions in the incubator project.

  1. You want a minimum of 10 changes. So does it make any sense for you to have a 10 or 100 contribution?
  2. Unable to access from Turkey to diq.wikipedia.org. It is currently open for users residing in Europe. We can't even contribute to diq.wikipedia.org if we want to. Other zazaki projects have been waiting for years at incubator.wikimedia.org. Puppet users have problems. We're 2 now. We do not recognize the user named @Aminmin. We cannot guarantee you for a user. If you are saying, 3 users are not enough for the project, we want a minimum of 5 users. I'm sorry, I'm not creative (God, God, God, Buddha or some other god). I can't create you extra 2-3 users. Maybe tomorrow I'il die too. I can't even guarantee for myself.
  3. the language was forbidden in Turkey continued until the 2000s. Currently 2 departments have been opened. We would like to open the Wiktionary project for our graduates who will graduate from universities. When we hit the road, we need a warehouse for work articles and magazines. Wikisource.org storage area, we're dealing with. Our country has wikisource.org domain name for Turkish and Kurdish. We weren't our wikisource.org address, so we set off.
  4. For you, codes, languages, users, words can only be numbers and statistics, but there are more than numbers, numbers, statistics. Buderan (talk) 17:55, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Translation placed by StevenJ81 (talk) 14:19, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Buderan:
  1. Turkey blocks *.wikipedia.org domains; we can't directly change that. I don't think that applies to Incubator or other non-Wikipedia domain names.
  2. It does not matter so much if you know @Azminwan. What matters is whether that person's contributions are productive.
    • If they are, the Zazaki/Dimli Wiktionary and Wikivoyage projects would now be eligible for approval, and next week I can put them before LangCom for approval.
    • If that user's contributions are not productive—and I see that the user is indefinitely blocked on Zazaki/Dimli Wikipedia—then we need a third user. (That would probably also mean that you would have a lot to clean up in these two tests before we could consider approving.)
You tell me whether that user's contributions are productive in these projects. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:24, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Buderan (talk) 08:01, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • First of all, thank you so much for answering.
  • Although Google does not translate 100% accurate, I understand that you want to say more.
  1. We have access to sites other than Wikipedia.
  2. We do not know @Azminwan, we live 1 million zaza people in the world, we can not recognize them all :) wiktionary and wikivoyage have contributions on it. The dialect that he uses can be understood to be different. If we make a mistake, we can fix it.
  3. There is no problem for Langcom. (you can even report projects in other languages, because in many languages users are contributing)
  4. a third user is difficult at the moment, but after the projects are opened we will need to get support from linguists. Because we need to add resources for each page in the wiktionary project. In order to do this, we are contacting zazaki book and dictionary authors. Buderan (talk) 08:01, 2 March 2019 (UTC)

Purpose of the category

I would like to know the purpose of the category Category:Maintenance:Pages using deprecated templates. I mean the method to solve that issue. Adithyak1997 (talk) 16:52, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well...in theory, its purpose is exactly what it says: it contains pages using templates that are deprecated. In practice, the only such template currently feeding the category is Test language. In the days before we had Test wiki available in order to create info pages for tests, the main category page for each test was supposed to be built with this template. It provided some information on the test, and placed the test category as a subcategory of Category:Incubator:All test wikis.
That template became deprecated when we started using Test wiki and info pages. But it's only deprecated in the sense that it's no longer "required". We now require an info page using Test wiki. But when people stopped using Test language, tests were no longer automatically being put into Category:Incubator:All test wikis. That's why I created Root category template—so that at least that functionality would be retained.
All that having been said, though, there's really nothing wrong with Test language (except that it renders oddly on pages of RTL tests, something I really ought to fix). And there's no reason to remove it from the many pages where it already exists. And it's not even so terrible if someone wants to put it on a root category page, as long as there is also an info page. So, to be honest, I'm inclined to remove the categorization to there from Test language. That should empty the category rapidly. (The documentation on the template will still read "Deprecated template", but since there is no need to remove the template from the many pages where it exists, there's no need for the pages to be in a maintenance category.)
Thoughts, anyone? StevenJ81 (talk) 15:54, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I updated this. When creating a root category page for a new test, the preferred approach is to use . Test language is still allowed, though not preferred. It does not need to be removed from pages where it already exists. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:51, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
...and as a follow-up, that category is now empty. However, the category page should remain in place, as it is a maintenance category. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:44, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to know how to publish a Company's Wikipedia page(in English). Hope you can guide me). --JuliaMankovskaya (talk) 09:04, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JuliaMankovskaya: First off, to get a specific user's attention, use USERNAME. If you want to use the English Wikipedia, it is located here. To understand what can and cannot be published on that site, a good place to look is w:en:WP:NOTABLE, which describes which things are "notable" and therefore worthy of inclusion and which ones aren't (note that most businesses are not notable). Thank you soo much Justin but i want the changes done in June and July. I need changes done between June and July not within the last 30 days. Please how do i go about it ? --Oby Ezeilo (talk) 20:42, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
May not be possible without manually going into a database dump. —Justin (koavf)TCM 23:45, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You can probably get at it indirectly in the following way:
  1. Go to this page. It will show you who the active editors were during June (and then July) on the Igbo Wiktionary test project.
  2. Click on each name in turn. That will take you to the user's user page here. Then click on the link at the left of that page "User contributions". That will take you to the user's list of user contributions. Then when you get to that page tick the box marked "only show page creations", fill in "from date"=1 June 2019 and "to date"=31 July 2019 (or whatever dates you are looking for), then click the search button.
Sorry I can't give you something more direct. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:41, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Update on technical issues and other things interfering with getting the process moving again

Originally posted today at m:Talk:Language committee and then copied here. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:33, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I want to give everyone an update on

  • The technical issues (phab:T212881)
  • The two approved projects still pending creation.
  • The four tentatively approved projects still pending language verification.
  • Getting everything else going again.

Technical issues and projects pending creation

Getting this moving again was identified as a high-priority issue at Wikimania. Its priority at phabricator has been upgraded to high and it is being looked at by the Core Platform Team. I'm hoping this gets the logjam broken and that we can start moving these things along again.

  • The creation of Western Armenian Wikipedia earlier this summer was always going to have a large manual component, because the content was (mostly) being taken from Armenian Wikipedia, not Incubator, Multilingual Wikisource or Beta Wikipedia. So it was always a bit of an anomaly.
  • The recent creation of Neapolitan Wikisource was partly an exercise in seeing quite how broken the existing process was. (Answer: "Very.") Unfortunately, it did not portend the other two projects' imminent creation.
  • If we can get the language verification done on the four tentatively approved projects (next section), then I will try to get at least Hindi Wikisource (approved back in March) created manually. But, quite frankly, if I have to choose between pushing through a project manually and getting the whole process fixed, I'd rather time be spent on getting the whole process fixed.

Projects awaiting language verification

There is a LangCom member working directly on those now. I believe he has set himself a deadline of 30 September. If it goes much later than that, I will push again.

Other projects feeling they are close to ready

I am soon going to go back to projects that have been "close to ready" for a while. I am going to give a mild, early preference to projects that are not the first project in a language, so that I can avoid the "language verification" issue. But that is a short list likely be addressed quickly, and then I will move on to projects that are the first project in a language.

I think the main potential issue here is going to be that many test projects went dormant because of all the delays, both technical delays and approval delays. So here is how we will handle these:

  • Projects that have maintained approvable activity levels (3+ months with 3 registered editors making at least 10 edits each per month), or pretty nearly so (OK, they just missed once or twice during the summer), will be moved straight along.
  • Projects that had approvable activity up until a point earlier this year can restore their approvable activity status with a single month of approval-level activity. (I will try to let you know who you are.) That activity level then still needs to continue. But what I mean is that I am not going to wait until you have three more months under your belt to judge the readiness of everything else.
  • Remember that other things required for approval (content, interface translation, etc.) haven't gone away.

Thank you for your patience. I am happy to take process questions here at m:Talk:Language committee. But please let me work through the list of "nearly ready" I already have, and don't start pushing your projects at me quite yet. I'm already going to have a lot to do, and I have a day job. Wn/en-simple is not considered a valid project?

How can I make Simple English wikinews? Computer Fizz (talk) 00:33, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Computer Fizz: There are a few issues here.
  1. First, on the whole there is a reluctance to allow new simple projects at all. There was never a Simple English Wikinews, but every other Simple English project was closed except for Wikipedia and Wiktionary—and the latter only because it plays a support role for the former.
  2. Second, I think you've been around simplewiki long enough now to know just how difficult it really is to curate English to make sure it stays within the realm of Simple English (however you define it).
  3. Third, new/small Wikinews projects have an extremely difficult time recruiting enough reporters/writers to provide sufficient content on an ongoing basis.
At this point, if someone wants to create a new Simple English project, they are required to incubate it elsewhere—either as a branch/namespace of Simple English Wikipedia, as a branch/namespace of the corresponding English project (English Wikinews, in this case), or in an outside wiki like Incubator Plus 2.0. Either of the first two would require you to have community approval from the respective wiki. The third would not, but you will have a harder time recruiting contributors.
Let me ask you a question. Is your intent to create a news project with independent reporting, or are you really looking to provide Simple English renderings of content already existing in, say, English Wikinews? If you are really looking to provide Simple English renderings of existing Wikinews content, I strongly recommend that you try to get English Wikinews to let you incubate there. This way you will have easy access to the original content. And I think the English Wikinews community (whom I don't know all that well) might find it a useful service to provide.
You can try working at simplewiki, which has the advantage that there is already a community of contributors that knows the standards we use for "Simple English". But I suspect the community will not welcome this initiative. That community, as you probably know, feels it has enough trouble writing its encyclopedia without adding further distractions.
Any other questions, please let me know. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:42, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yea i wasn't planning to do independent research and article making by myself. So i will probably ask about whether or not i can use english wikinews. Computer Fizz (talk) 16:33, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

News is supposed to be written in a very plain an intelligible style anyway in addition to the fact that simple is a non-standard code and Wikinews is by far one of the least active projects. Starting a simple English Wikinews would frankly be a disaster all around. —Justin (koavf)TCM 17:16, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, but not necessarily in English qualifying as "Simple English" the way we think of it. (If all news met that standard, VOA would not need a separate Special English/Learning English section.) StevenJ81 (talk) 19:32, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Granted but VOA is specifically targeted to foreigners (most of whom are not native English speakers) and simple.wp is not targeted to anyone and there is no prescribed list of words. Is it for non-native English users? Children? Persons with learning disabilities? Reproducing this ambiguity would probably be another reason to not have simple.wn if anything. —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:28, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help

Can someone help here I can't correct this Module error

@Awangba Mangang: Please check now. I have temporarily fixed the issue by making this edit. Now, to completely fix the issue, you need to create the module named script utilities. Why I didn't create it is due to the reason that I don't know the source from where you are creating the modules. Adithyak1997 (talk) 19:12, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Good example of when test-admins are allowed to operate outside their tests

Reminder to test-administrators: While you are ordinarily supposed to use administrator tools only inside your tests, the tools do work outside your tests. That's why I:A#Test-administrators doesn't say "You can't use the tools outside your test"; instead, it says, "If you do something outside your test, be prepared to defend your actions or you may be desysopped."

Sometimes it's OK, as when there is clear vandalism/advertising going on. See Axel's action at Special:Diff/4632215. This was clearly a case where rollback was appropriate, and I appreciate that Axel did so. (Remember, test-admins are the only people besides full sysops with "rollback" here.)

Obviously, when in doubt, tag it, and contact us at I:AN. But when it's clear, please feel free to take action yourselves. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:33, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seeeeriously. Who cares for rollback? --MF-W {a, b} 09:18, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Test-admins have asked if they are allowed to do these things. So I thought I'd give this as an example. No biggie. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:57, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Usage of a page (Wp/khw)

I would like to know whether the page Wp/khw/MediaWiki:Common.css has some usage or whether it needs to be deleted or not. The main doubt arises due to the reason - when I visited that page, I was able to know that the content model of the specific page needs to be changed to styles. When I tried to do change it to Mediawiki:Wp/khw/Commons.css, it showed an error "A page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid". I also tried to find a similar page in other Incubator wikis but I couldn't find any. Adithyak1997 (talk) 15:36, 6 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Most tests haven't customized these. You can delete the page you asked about, unless there is something in it you want to copy to the page in MediaWiki space. Then I'll need to help you. StevenJ81 (talk) 22:12, 6 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@BigRed66: Where did you upload it? If it has educational value and was properly licensed, then no, it will probably not be deleted. —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:10, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: I uploaded the file through media commons. It's a football image that I created. The license on it is incorrect, and I'd like to have it changed or the image removed altogether. 12 BigRed66BigRed66 (talk) 01:38, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This project has 6000 articles and a regular activity for over one year. But your committee is sleeping. Is this normal? Where are its members? Grazie. ClaudiaVisentini (talk) 12:12, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ClaudiaVisentini: I cannot speak to what they are doing, as I'm not on the committee, nor do I follow them closely—have you asked them? I have seen many persons complain about the length of time it takes to graduate from the Incubator, yes. On the other hand, they have recently approved several new language editions of Wikipedia. Which project are you even referencing? —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:22, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Koavf: I contribute to the Kotava project. The test administrator of this project keeps relaunching discussions with this famous committee, but nobody answers him. Question

Hi all! I am an relatively new editor here, bur I have created the Ghotuo test wiki. Before that, I taking a look on the English wikipedia; I made a few minor edits, but I understood that maybe the most important rules that an article must be referenced. Thereafter, I have a question: shall the articles on my small wiki be referenced also? I know that they must, but, as I have still not translated the interfaces (and I don't know how, actually), could I leave unreferenced for now? Thanks for your help, GhotuoIncubator (talk) 19:59, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GhotuoIncubator: Thanks for posting. In short, different language editions of Wikipedia have some latitude about how they make their own rules--e.g. the English-language Wikipedia allows for fair-use media and the Spanish one does not. And while some rules are up to individual groups, others are not (e.g. a Wikipedia cannot contradict the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use by having work that is primarily not freely licensed). So I would say that in terms of bedrock rules like verifiability or the English edition's five pillars, those are some pretty good guidelines to reproduce on another edition. More specific and detailed rules would not apply (e.g. the style guide) or would be so restrictive and arcane that they will make participating difficult. As for translating the interface, that is confusingly done at betawiki: which is not a Wikimedia Foundation project, so you'd have to make an account there. —Justin (koavf)TCM 07:57, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf:Thanks for your reply. So, if i understood well, untill i translate the interfaces i shall leave them unreferenced for now? It is a lot of job translating interfaces but i'm willing to do when i get more familiar. GhotuoIncubator (talk) 21:10, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GhotuoIncubator: Translating the interface is necessary for the project to graduate from Incubator but it is only one part of actually making the project while it's here on Incubator: generating content, making a community, deciding on rules, etc. all happen simultaneously. —Justin (koavf)TCM 00:51, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: Ok, got it. Thanks for yot assistance! GhotuoIncubator (talk) 12:24, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
