Hi! I'm Tochitochii. I have created a new template to use in countries. Could you check if there is something missing or change please? Thanks

I have modified the template and now it specifies if the city is in a province or prefecture and it's name.

Deletion requests

edit

Hi, please give a reason for why you want those pages to be deleted. --MF-W {a, b} 11:33, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

@MF-Warburg: it's because there are already pages on this matter (wp/grc/Δακία, wp/grc/Σουηδία, wp/grc/Ἀστάνη). Please delete the pages I marked as so. PastelKos (talk) 11:44, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Template:wp/grc/Πολιτεία 2

edit

Hello, i'm Tochitochii again. Some weeks ago i sent you a note about this template and you answered me that thera was some mistakes. My lebel of ancient greek is not good enought to know what to change. Could you help me when you can, please?

Hi @Tochitochii:. The template is fine and I will certainly use it when I make articles on cities. It's just that the fields should be able to be removed when not needed. Otherwise it's good! PastelKos (talk) 11:44, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Are you talking about the template for cities, or for the template of countries? --Tochitochii (talk) 12:00, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Deletion reasons

edit

Hello. As in this, I see that your deletion reasons are in Ancient Greek. As Google Translator can't understand Ancient Greek, I couldn't understand the reason you have given for deletion. Wp/grc has no active test-sysops, so we, other projects' sysops and regular sysops have to intervene. But as I can't understand if the reason is valid or not, I don't want to take an action against the page. Could you please state your reasons for deletions in English, so we also can understand them? Thanks.--evrifaessa ❯❯❯ talk 13:16, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Basically, Δακία τῶν Οὐλαχῶν was moved to wp/grc/Δακία, Συηδία to wp/grc/Σουηδία and Ἀστανή to wp/grc/Ἀστάνη. So now, there are two pages with the same content. I merely asked for the pages i marked to be deleted so as not to have thsi confusion. Thanks. PastelKos (talk) 13:21, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I deleted the pages. You may also consider applying to become a test-sysop for the project, so you won't need to wait for an administrator to complete the deletion. See I:A for details.--evrifaessa ❯❯❯ talk 13:25, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Evrifaessa: I tried looking where I may apply, but I can't find a "sysops" category anywhere. Could you please help me?— The preceding unsigned comment was added by PastelKos (discussioncontribs).
First, check if you are eligible for the requirements listed in Incubator:Administrators#Test-administrators. After that, proceed directly using this link.--evrifaessa ❯❯❯ talk 13:35, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

PastelKos (talk) 18:41, 14 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Di-we>ΔιFεί>Διί. Wein, βλ. vinum), Fέργον>work, Fιδεῖν>video... Κατὰ τὸ Liddel/Scott (ἐκδ. City template

edit

Template:Wp/grc/Πόλεις

edit

Hi, I'm @Tochitochii. I write you because I've seen that you has made a new template for cities, but it looks almost exactly like the one I already made. Would you explain me why did yo create a new one instead of modify the one I made, please? Thank you. Tochitochii (talk) 20:06, 26 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Basically, it's just more flexible and allows for references, links and such to be added. The reason why I didn't just modify the existing Template:Wp/grc/Πόλις is because then all the pages you created that used that template would be broken. Anyways, please use Template:Wp/grc/Πόλεις from now on and if you don't mind, please go back to the pages that use the Πόλις one and fix them. Thank you! Changes to Ancient Greek Wikiquote

edit

Last month, in order to reflect the Βικι to Οὐικι change on all the other Grc Wikiprojects and since Wikiquote remained unchanged and inactive, I changed all references of Βικι to Οὐικι in that wiki, but you may not have noticed this. (the changes are from the IP 24.50.204.179 in the same range, and not this one). See Wq/grc/Κυρία Δέλτος, Template:Wq/grc/Ἀδελφὰ Ἐγχειρήματα and Template:Wq/grc/Ἀλλογλωσσιστί for more information. Feel free to change anything wrong.

@24.50.204.131: Hi there! Thank you very much for these edits. Some day I'll have to rework the main page of Wikiquote but right now I'm focused on Wikipedia. Btw, are you interested in contributing to this Wikipedia? Also, making an actual account (aka not using your IP adress) would make communication much more easier! Just a thought though. Don't worry about the late reply @Ayour2002:. Unfortunately, the english wikipedia's template requires other templates and modules which do not work in Incubator. If you want, I can try to replicate it but it won't be exactly the same. --PastelKos (talk) 18:31, 22 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Incubator and still not Wikipedia

edit

@PastelKos: Hello PastelKos! I saw your ancient Greek Wikipedia has more than 1000 articles and has exceeded three months active period also! But still, it's in incubator and not approved as a complete Wikipedia. Why so? Is there a specific reason? Haoreima (talk) 03:31, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

In fact, I also want to start Wp/omp (Ancient Meitei Wikipedia). But I saw many said something about the exception of ancient language test wiki from normal language! Do you have any idea? If yes, please help me clarify it. Haoreima (talk) 03:35, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Χαῖρε @Haoreima:! It is most unfortunate that while the Ancient Greek Wiki has many artiles, most of them are not well written, lacking or plain wrong. I am trying my best to fix them one by one and, honestly, I don't think this wiki is ready to be released. Another reason is that you need at least 3 active editors for your wiki to get out of incubator. "Ancient" languages are considered dead (something I would not say about Ancient Greek but anyway) and thus it's difficult to get many articles and users for their wikipeidas. Otherwise, it's the same process with every other language. Let me know if you need any other help! --PastelKos (talk) 06:38, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oh actually I saw this and I am really confused what this is! Because there's Ancient Greek incubator, but at the same time there's a series of proposal to get wiki! https://meta.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Ancient_Greek Haoreima (talk) 10:06, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Important precision : in fact, there is 4 proposals : m:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Ancient Greek, m:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Ancient Greek 2, m:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Ancient Greek 3 and m:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Ancient Greek 4. The first 3 have been rejected and - sadly - the fourth will probably get rejected eventually too as it does not currently meet the requisites of the m:Language proposal policy. Cheers, VIGNERON * discut. 11:20, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@PastelKos: Since there were series of rejection in the former attempts, I want to know that whether Ancient Greek wiki incubator has at least 3 active users in three consecutive months or not? Was the rejection for this reason or another? I want to know this because I am to start my Wp/omp (Ancient Meitei incubator), so, I want to have deep knowledge about the ongoing scenario. Haoreima (talk) 14:32, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Haoreima: No it does not.--PastelKos (talk) 14:35, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Then, can we achieve our goals, grc Wikipedia for you, and omp Wikipedia for us, thought the policy guidelines has some rules? I mean, if we have more than 3 active users in 3 months. Haoreima (talk) 14:42, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Haoreima: It is indeed my desire that there be 3 active users.--PastelKos (talk) 14:47, 21 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Haoreima: in every test wiki in incubator you can press check test wiki activity and see the statistics. You will have to check in Wp/grc not the main page though. Last month there were three non grayed out users so I think that there’s hope. -Gifnk dlm 2020 (talk) 18:11, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

A request at meta to start allowing ancient languages

edit

Hi PastelKos, I posted a request for comment at meta requesting that they allow new wikis in ancient languages again. Since you are a very frequent editor in Ancient Greek Wikipedia I was wondering if you are interested in leaving a comment. If this initiative passes it will open the way for Ancient Greek Wikipedia to get a subdomain. That’s why I pinged you and other contributors to Ancient Greek Wikipedia but you may have missed the ping. -Gifnk dlm 2020 (talk) 15:05, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Wp/grc/Βιετνάμη rename

edit

Hi, could you rename Wp/grc/Βιετνάμη to Wp/grc/Οὐιετνάμη? This would coincide with the new β > οὐ transcription rule for /v/ and /w/. I have edited the page to reflect the changes. The only thing needed is to rename the page. BTW, I see that you have reworked the pages for Europe, Africa and the Americas. Do you have any plans to rework the pages for Asia and Oceania, which haven't been done yet? Thanks! 24.50.204.59 16:40, 20 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! Yes I am planning to remake all the country pages for every continent. The previous editors made some unfortunate mistakes which we know have to fix. I am going through them one by one changing names and adding contnet but since you requested Vietnam, I will certainly do. Thanks again! --PastelKos (talk) 16:43, 20 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Misspellings on many pages that need to be fixed

edit

Hi again! I was noticing why did many of the former editors not add accents on some words, and even on foreign name transliterations? Here are some examples: (errors marked in bold)

1. Wp/grc/Βρασιλία and possibly many other articles: Όἱ Ποταμοι, but mostly linking to the accented form Wp/grc/Ποταμός.

2. Wp/grc/Οὐατικανόπολις and possibly some other articles containing foreign names: Ό τῆς Πολιτείας γραφεὺς τῆς Οὐατικανοπόλεως Ταρσίζιος Βερτονη ἐστίν.

(Also in the section Ή Ῥωμαϊκὴ ή αὐλή: Φραντσίσκος Αρινζη, Ἰωάννης Βλαζιος δη Αβιζις, Δομινικος Καλκαγνο, Μαρκος Ουλλετ, Μαυρος Πιατζενζα, etc.)

3. An older revision of Wp/grc/Γάγγης: Ὁ Γάγγης ὁ ποταμος ἐν τῇ Ἰνδίᾳ ἐστιν. (already fixed).

Also on Wp/grc/Ἰνδός but a double accent as in Ἴνδός, and in Wp/grc/Τίγρης: ὁ ποταμος ἐν τῇ Μεσοποταμίᾳ ἐστιν. (This page is also on the category Wp/grc/Ποταμοι).

All these 3 pages are linking to Wp/grc/Ποταμος (without accent).

4. Wp/grc/Ἱεροσόλυμα and some other articles mentioning Christianity: Ιερουσαλήμ γάρ ἡ τῶν Ἰουδαίων καί τῶν Χριστιανων καί τῶν Μουσουλμάνων πόλις ἡ ἱερά ἐστιν.

Also on an older version of Wp/grc/Βιβλία: Tὰ Βιβλία τῶν Ἰουδαίων καί τῶν Χριστιανων τὸ βιβλίον τὸ ἱερον ἐστιν. (already fixed), and on Wp/grc/Καθολικὴ Ἐκκλησία: μέγιστη τῶν Χριστιανων Ἐκκλησία ὑπὸ τοῦ Πάπου.

...etc.

Finally, I see that you have recently moved some articles with unaccented names to versions with accented names.

Thanks again! 24.50.204.59 05:46, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

UPDATE 6/24/2021: User:Aureliiuss is fixing some of the pages. I just want to know your opinion on why did the former editors did this. Thanks! 24.50.204.179 13:04, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the late reply @24.50.204.179:. I don't know why the former editors did these and I do not want to make any comments that will degrade them. Let's not focus on them though, let's look to the future. --PastelKos (talk) 13:06, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
OK then, I understand. Also, thanks for the efforts you’re making to improve this Wikipedia! 24.50.204.179 13:11, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
You're very welcome! Btw, I think making an actual wikimedia account would be better so your contributions are actually counted in the CatAnalysis and so we can communicate more easily. Also, during the summer I'll be away from my computer so I will be able to make less contributions to the wiki. Keep that in mind as well. Thank you again! --PastelKos (talk) 13:15, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion

edit

Hello PastelKos, how are you going? If possible, I'd like to suggest the translation of 4 articles to Ancient Greek: Luís Gama, Netto Question, Henrique Lins de Barros and Projeto Portinari. I'm currently working in the first two articles and wrote the last from the scratch and I would like to see these supporting new projects. If doesn't exist, would be really nice to see an Wikipedia: Requested Articles as a place where all the current and new projects could get new articles for translation. I would like to help more on the Incubator, but I only have knowledge of Portuguese (main) and English and it seems that my computer doesn't like the SignWitten formate hahaha Thanks, Erick Soares3 (talk) 23:35, 29 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Χαῖρε PastelKos. I worked a little bit on reorganizing Wp/grc/Οὐκιπαιδεία:Δέλτοι ἅσπερ δεῖ ἁπάσας τὰς Οὐικιπαιδείας περιέχειν and have finished the βιογραφίαι section. If it looks good to you, I'll start working on creating those articles. Perhaps it'll be good to create the categories, too. AristippusSer (talk) 19:42, 8 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Χαῖρε @AristippusSer:! What a coincidence that we're both working on the same thing. The Wp/grc/Οὐκιπαιδεία:Δέλτοι ἅσπερ δεῖ ἁπάσας τὰς Οὐικιπαιδείας περιέχειν is outdated in the terms it includes as it does not match the https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_articles_every_Wikipedia_should_have. The list you have created (especially the adding of their native names) is excellent! However, if you don't mind, check my list here that fits the new articles as well and especially look the hellenisations I created for names that did not have an already hellenised/latinised name. If you don't like some, you can write next to them what you think is more appropiate and then we can compare. --PastelKos (talk) 08:31, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

New support group for all ancient language communities

edit

Hi @PastelKos:, some of us are trying to set up a Wikimedia User Group to promote the use of Ancient Languages on Wikimedia. We are ALPES Ancient Language Promotion, Education and Support – and would really value some strong links with the group writing in Ancient Greek. --JimKillock (talk) 18:10, 17 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you @JimKillock:, I shall definetly join! --PastelKos (talk) 14:21, 18 September 2021 (UTC)--PastelKos (talk) 14:21, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@PastelKos: But I don't find your Ancient Greek in the list of proposed languages. So, by signing up, what will you do? Please don't mind, I am just curious because I also get worried for omp incubator (Ancient Meitei)! Haoreima (talk) 08:28, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Haoreima: The list shows current wikis for now, that's probably why Ancient Greek and Ancient Meitei are not listed. --PastelKos (talk) 10:54, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@PastelKos: Then, is there any prospect of getting wikipedia status for Ancient Greek (grc) and Ancient Manipuri (omp)? Haoreima (talk) 11:28, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Haoreima: probably --PastelKos (talk) 11:50, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@PastelKos: I too signed after seeing yours! Well, what is the purpose of signing then when our desired languages aren't there? Please explain me. I am little confused. Haoreima (talk) 12:13, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Some articles are using monotonic instead of polytonic Greek

edit

Some articles in the Ancient Greek Wikipedia (for example - this one: https://incubator.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/grc/Οἰκία_τοῦ_Λουθήρου_(Ἄϊζεναχ) ) are using a monotonic version of Ancient Greek. I suggest that this, along with some other articles you may find with these errors, to correct them. 24.138.226.197 00:58, 13 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately there are many articles like that, and some that don't even use ancient greek in them. Unfortunately, this year are my final exams so I cannot be as active. Should you find any more articles like that, please notify me so I can put them in a list. -- PastelKos (talk) 14:03, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ancient Greek poleis project

edit

Hi! First of all I would like to thank you for all the work you have done for this project. I write to you to announce my intention to create (step by step) Ancient Greek Wikipedia pages for all known ancient Greek poleis. For this reason, I've created a new template (see: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Wp/grc/%E1%BC%88%CF%81%CF%87%CE%B1%CE%AF%CE%B1_%CE%A0%CF%8C%CE%BB%CE%B9%CF%82) and a sample (see: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/grc/%E1%BC%88%CF%81%CF%87%CE%B1%E1%BF%96%CE%B1_%CE%9C%CE%AD%CE%B3%CE%B1%CF%81%CE%B1). Let me know if you find any mistake or if you have any suggestions (especially, improvements of the template format, or other readily available information which I could include)!

I know that this Wikipedia has not bright prospects at the moment but I think that this might change through hard work.

PS: I would also like to point out to you that this page is most probably out of place (https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/grc/User:LunaValo%C3%A4a) I'm not an expert in how Wikipedia works but I definitely think that that user page should not be there.
