Welcome edit

Hello Guillermo2149!

Welcome to Wikimedia Incubator, the project of Wikimedia Foundation where new language versions of Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikinews, Wikiquote and Wiktionary are maintained!

Do you maybe speak a language which has a test wiki here? You are welcome to contribute! Search the full list
Or do you want to start Wikipedia or another project in your language? Make sure it doesn't already exist and go ahead! Consult the manual linked in the box at the right for how to do it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them on Incubator:Community Portal.

Hmong Dawb Wikipedia edit

Thanks for contributing to the Hmong Dawb Wikipedia Incubator! Would you be interested in working to get the site interface translated into Hmong? WhisperToMe (talk) 08:14, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wp/mww edit

Hello! I don't wanna look too daring in your eyes, but it's very obvious that you use Google Translator while editing pages in Hmong Daw. Is it actually true? --Midnight Gambler (talk) 08:53, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Indoeuropeo edit

--Katxis (talk) 23:10, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wp/vul edit

Guillermo,

"Vul" is not a valid ISO code. Therefore this wiki is likely not to be approved and to be closed. Additionally: I cannot find a request on Meta for this project. Please show me where on Meta this request exists. Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:38, 27 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

This is the request. The code is lat-vul but... --Guillermo2149 (talk) 18:36, 27 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
OK. Understood. Language committee will not approve unless you can get SIL to approve a separate ISO639-3 language code for lat-vul. Other projects here with similar suffixed codes (like nds-nl) are grandfathered from much earlier days before the current policy was set in place.
More to the point, there are no current speakers of Vulgar Latin. As many people point out, standard Latin is sui generis at Wikimedia, in that (a) the projects were started before the current language policy was in place, (b) there has constantly been new written work in standard Latin over the centuries, and (c) "dead" though the language was, there was continuous liturgical use. So as a "dead" language, it was never really quite dead. (Hebrew of about 125+ years ago would have been in about the same boat.) In contrast, you will have a hard time convincing the Language Committee that there is a community around that will work with Vulgar Latin. Yes, it may be relatively intelligible to a lot of people, but it's not really in use by anyone, as far as I can tell.
On the whole, I'd really recommend that you work on this project at Incubator Plus instead. But for the moment I will leave the project open here, because by policy we do not close test projects for which a request is open at Meta. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:56, 27 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Y instead of J and J instead of DZ and V instead of W and W instead of U is from the evil of http://www.yog-sothoth.com/wiki/index.php/R'lyehian , avoid it at all, we are not casting hellbent spells here. 2001:888:2000:61:0:0:0:2 20:39, 27 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
This Lovecraftian mockery MUST be strictly banned from PIE area. 63.142.250.210 18:22, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

H-K-T edit

The Hansemann, Kennemann and Tiedemann association already won the ideological support for the conviction of the planned Indogermanization which is undoubtedly the claim to be honored as the restored pre-Babel home and cradle that the only Indogermans like themselves. The aim of the H-K-T association is to promote the Indogermanization and strengthening of Indogermanism in the areas of the world affected by the confusion of tongues at Babel. This was intended to provide an answer to the growing share of the confounded population, as the Indogerman Settlement Commission, founded in 1886, had already tried to react. 63.142.250.210 18:22, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Guarani Wikipedia edit

Obviously wp/gui equals w:gn:Ape. 54.157.54.102 08:06, 16 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not necessarily. Guarani Wikipedia has the language code gn, and is either the Wikipedia of the macrolanguage or is the Wikipedia of Paraguayan Guarani, which is the variety most often called by the simple name Guarani. There is no reason this test project can't proceed, and edits that suggest that will not be welcome. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:31, 16 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Not at all. First off, the correct code for 'gn' Wikipedia should be 'gug', 'gn' is for the macrolanguage family, and 'gug' for Paraguayan Guarani. 'gui' is for Eastern Bolivian Guarani, they obviously, don't equal at all. --Guillermo2149 (talk) 01:16, 12 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
That having been said, Guillermo,
  • Do you know for a fact that Guarani Wikipedia is in fact a Wikipedia for Paraguayan Guarani and not for the macrolanguage (that is, not one that is supposed to incorporate both)? Because ...
  • If/when Wp/gui goes to the Language Committee for approval, the committee will want to know if gug and gui are mutually intelligible. If they are, they might like to see the projects merged. If they're not then they'll be ok with having two parallel projects. Further ...
  • Note that it is challenging to recode existing projects, so for the time being at least, even if that project is solely a Paraguayan Guarani Wikipedia and not a macrolanguage Wikipedia, it's going to stay at gn.wikipedia.org and not be moved to gug.wikipedia.org. Wp/tpn listed at Requests for deletions edit

An editor has identified a potential problem with one of your test projects contributed Wp/tpn and has thus listed it for discussion. This discussion will occur at Incubator:Requests for deletions/Requests#Wp/tpn and Wp/tpw until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion.
