Welcome to Wikimedia Incubator!
At the right there are some important links, and here are some tips and info:
- If you haven't created a user page yet, please create one with for example User language templates on it.
- You can select your interface language in your preferences.
- If you make articles, templates or categories, don't forget to add a prefix!
- If your knowledge of English is good, you can help with translating pages to other languages you know, so more people can understand it!
- If you want to translate the interface, please go to Translatewiki.net and follow the instructions.
Hongera! and tips for Wt/ki
editHongera kwa kuanzisha wiktionary ya Kikuyu! I noticed that you seem to provide one-sentence definitions in Gĩkũyũ plus providing a picture. How about following a wiktionary template? And using categories and links to other wiktionaries? What are the Gikuyu words for 'noun', 'verb' and 'adjective', for example? Or for 'pronunciation' and 'translation'? For a full template, you may get ideas from something like http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/toadstool; for including categories and links, see http://incubator.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wt/lag/itere%CC%81ere&action=edit - All the best! --Baba Tabita (talk) 11:03, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
Preferences
editHi Stephenwanjau. Currently your test wiki preference (underneath the language selector) is set to "Incubator". However, you are working on Wt/ki so you should select "Wikipedia" and enter "ki" into the input box. This will correctly adapt the links in the sidebar, and the search function. For any questions, feel free to ask on my talk page. Thanks! SPQRobin (talk) 00:40, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
How may we help you in doing that? Which is the language in question? :-)

- Thank you for coming in on this. I am a contributor from Kenya and I would like to create a new Wikitonary for the Kikuyu language. I had started the incubation process sometime back as you can see here. My main obstacle now is to create the main pagee for this incubation project. I have tried to go to this but I cannot decipher what is happening there. Is there a place or a way that I can translate the landing page from English. ₫ӓ₩₳ Talk to Me. - The information you can see at the top of the page tell you how to change the info page Wt/ki so that it contains a link to the Main Page. That is not a big deal, I've done this now [1].
- If you want to translate the Main Page of the English Wiktionary, you can paste its sourcecode into wikt:Special:ExpandTemplates and insert the resulting code to Wt/ki/Main Page. Then you can translate it. --MF-W {a, b} 21:59, 24 July 2012 (UTC) PS: You probably want to change your Test wiki: preference to "Wiktionary", and the Test wiki language: to "ki".
- Thank you for the timely feedback. I am currently looking for word sources and translations to have the landing page ready. After having the landing page, I will start advertising on social media and other channels for contributors to come in and build this Wiktionary. There is an encyclopedia for the language in question and I hope after having a Wiktionary the encyclopedia shall grow. For some of the words I will have to look for the elderly who have a deep understanding of the language :). I will definitely ping you in case I get stuck. ₫ӓ₩₳ Talk to Me. Email Me. 04:14, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Sure, please do that, I'm always glad to help :-) --MF-W {a, b} 18:10, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Stephen. I think, to grow the activity on the Kikuyu Wikipedia, it would be better to improve the Main Page there, because I currently see a lot of text in English. Also the interface is still completely in English. I strongly encourage you to start the software translation to Kikuyu on translatewiki.net (especially these messages), because there is currently nothing translated yet. It is even necessary for a second project (Wiktionary) to be opened. I see you're already active on translatewiki translating to Swahili, that's great. Regards, SPQRobin (talk) 18:42, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for the link. I actually hadn't come across the translation of the main page at translatewiki for the Kikuyu main page. It is kind of hidden and even those conversant with Kikuyu and interested to help with the translation might not find it easily. I will start working on the translation soon. Am glad you noticed I mostly translate to Swahili on translatewiki. ₫ӓ₩₳ Talk to Me. Email Me. 19:31, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
