Some suggestions on future candidates

In general, I'd love to try sending my suggestion regarding your [1], but sadly, I acknowledge that my post will unlikely to be approved for publishing by mailing list system.

So far, if we need an alternative for Krio (aka Sierra Leone Creole Wp/kri):

• Okinawan (Wp/ryu) (and very likely, Manchu (Wp/mnc)): hard to say but tend to oppose, by searching langcom talk page archives on Meta, there were some records of bad behaviors for both test projects, where some, somewhat likely many (although I even really can't believe "all") of contents contributed are based on socking (1, 2), means that the de facto contents of both are much more untrustful, and both communities of contributors need restructure, introducing CheckUser mechanisms in order to avoid further back of bad records before. Still, I can't see any headways from both communities, only suggestions (3 & 4), but I rather believe that approving both with de facto panoramas don't feel good for every interests.
• Pipil (Wp/ppl): A little support, This project let me remind that nah:, the Nahuatl Wikipedia, where their nah:Kalxat (ppl) claims the main page in Pipil, maybe there needs more investigation, together with Category talk:Incubator:Nahuatl languages here, that whether ppl needs a separate wiki from nah, or whether this project can just be merged with nahwiki, probably there are still two parties of users wrestling on both ways.
• Mapudungun (Wp/arn): Agree with MF-W [2], No.
• Tarifit (Wp/rif): Really okay? The contents look like less or probably no differents from Standard Moroccan Amazigh (zgh) Wikipedia (by using converter to read its Latin script version), maybe merge to zghwiki would be better?
• Rakhine (aka Arakanese Wp/rki): Neutral. The de facto political situation of Myanmar gave me interests of ongoing populating ethnical "small" languages' contributing groups, but there's already a tdd sample, having such a parallel rki sample could cause some monopolizing-related concerns as no other Asian areas than ASEAN memberships are covered.
• So far, how about seleting Sylheti (Wp/syl) as a better 5th candidate? Although started 4-year later than rki, they have more maximum active editors since creation (28 > 26), lesser anonymous edits (19 < 110), longer stable active periods (Sep-Oct&Dec, 2020 + Aug&Oct&Dec, 2022 + Apr, 2023 till now, 24 months) (Nov&Dec, 2022 + Jan&Apr-May, 2023 + Jul, 2023-Aug, 2024, 19 months), as well as other better datas I didn't check atm. Also, seleting syl could also improve the ULS support for South Asian devices in a more smart, more persistent and more focus-able way.

@Liuxinyu970226 I appreciate you sharing your thoughts here. The thing is, the languages are not entirely randomly chosen. There is a process for it, which is explained here: https://analytics.wikimedia.org/published/reports/languages_onboarding_experiment/1b_group_select.html. As the experiment team, we are following a process to propose the languages to the language committee, but the ultimate decision regarding which languages to approve lies in the hands of the language committee.

The languages you mentioned—Okinawan, Tarifit, Pipil, Mapudungun, and Krio—belong to a data cluster where the languages have spent the longest time in the Incubator, so there can be some similarities among them. Each language's prolonged stay in the Incubator has specific reasons; some lack sufficient editors, while others do not have enough native speakers, etc. For example, with Krio, the editors have not been active for a significant period, and since we have not heard from them in the last 10 days, we cannot proceed with that language. The others were also not considered suitable by either the steering committee of the experiment or the language committee for similar reasons that you mentioned.

I think you raised an interesting point about the languages from Myanmar, and it's something we should consider. If your message doesn’t get approved anytime soon, I will bring this up on the mailing list with the Language Committee. While Wp/syl may have been a good choice, it will depend on whether this language appears in the generated data cluster. I will pass your thoughts on to the team looking into this.
