Livonian internet community

edit

Tēriņtš, Ohpuu! Tere! Thank you for your invitation and reminding me about this Incubator project. I'm really in love with Livonian language, I have learned it for 4 years and I was also active in Livonian community, meeting people, taking part in all kind of activities, going to concerts, visiting Estonia with them etc. My knowledge of this language was growing up quite well and I could even take a part in a daily conversation. But now I'm a little bit out of this, haven't been active also in a living community, so the same about Livonian in internet. And still I have my own opinion (you can read it in other member discussions or in a liv.Main page discussion). I don't think it's possible to make this Wikipedia. Even it's not needed. All articles will be "stub". And there are no people who can read this or would like to. But I'm opened to all kind of activities outside of Wikipedia, if you are interested to share. I mean, if you are really in to Livonian language, not just taking a part in to any of Incubator projecrs, just of being Wikiholic. Best wishes and keep going! --Roalds* 10:42, 9 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion

edit

Hi Ohpuu, I've seen that you created quite a number of articles about popes in Livonian Wikipedia. Maybe it would be more informative for the readers if you'd also write the article about the office itself, Wp/liv/Rōma pōpst? --MF-W {a, b} 21:15, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Continiung discussion we had on Latvian community portal

edit

I think it would be fairly easy to generate good amount of stubs on similar topics like chemical elements or administrative divisions. Having infoboxes would be more beneficial as it would add some informational content to whole deal. I know how to write moderately complex templates. So we'd have something like this: [2], which looks way more profesional than this (which acctualy has more article text in it). The thing is maybe we should organize this a bit so that we cover significant topics and that somebody actually checks if language is correct and in general that it looks good Xil (talk) 14:48, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

This would be very nice. I can check the language to a degree and — drawing on linguistic material that can be relied on — could compose sentences that would be correct and could be replicated and used in a number of articles.
My user page here is essentially a draft list of topics to be covered (of course, a better version of it should be transferred to the incubator/Wikipedia itself as a tool to keep track on the progress of the project). I hope I will be soon able to come up with a list that would best suit your proposal. -- Ohpuu (talk) 15:12, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
We could though set aside some community page for the purpose. But in any case we should agree on some topics, so I could go see what to do about infoboxes, I think I might have a bit of free time for this at end of this week. Xil (talk) 15:50, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, haven't had time to think through particular texts. I figure you noted infobox templates I made? Seems, though, that not everything is working here as it does in other wikipedias (probably central scripts don't match other Wikipedias), which complicates this a little. USA presidents is good idea, just drop me a line what you want in infobox, and what is the changing part in text you use (and what it means) Xil (talk) 11:25, 20 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I'll do it in beginning of May, for one I have some computer issues that I want to address first and secondly it also would look like this wiki is more active if the edits are spread out over several months. Also I was thinking we could do lists of presidents and popes and other rulers. So, I therefore have a question - how do you say This is a list of ... or something else for standardized lead)? Also for US presidents it might be useful to list Vice presidents and parties (democrats, republicans, federalists, democratic-republican, whigs and, of course, no party), if you have any ideas for translations? Translating your language

Just a question

edit

Tēriņtš! Can you help me with translation of some pop. places into Livonian language? It's Russian and Latvian cities:

I think you know (surely its have own names in Livonian). In any case Latvian cities are really notable in liv.wiki . Thank you in advance.--Aig mest ei varasta (talk) 18:09, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Test-adminship expired

edit

Hi Ohpuu, your test-adminship for Wp/liv expired on 27 August. You can of course re-apply for it without problems. --MF-W {a, b} 17:35, 28 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi!

edit

I stalked Warbola's and your userpages and I noticed you made an edit sometime in Januray (yay!) :D I think I saw somewhere that you got busy IRL but if you have time it would be most appreciated if you could check some newly created articles for basic grammar every once in a while. (And edit out without hesitation anything that's not correct.)

And I wanted to ask you, as a native Finnic speaker...

I think I might be overusing Elative. Can it be used in an abstract sense like, for example, in the sentence lețkīels rūotškīelstõ – "[this word is] in Latvian from Swedish." (As in the article Wp/liv/Datōr.) Or se um portmanteau sõņšti data ja processor – "it's a portmanteau from [the] words 'data' and 'processor'"?

The books that I have kind of... suck (lol), they cover what I already know but leave out the most important "gray areas." I'm hoping on getting Fanny de Sivers' Parlons Live from French Amazon though. Neitrāls vārds (talk) 05:38, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Livonian is missing

edit

Livonian is missing from this page:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/There_is_also_a_Wikipedia_in_your_language
More than 100 languages are now listed.
If Livonian is going to be in the Incubator forever, then people should know where it is.
