Biography template edit

If you want, I can create a template to add to people's articles with data such as date and place of birth, country, profession, etc. if you translate the terms into Nyunga. --Katxis (talk) 08:40, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

IngridC-Curtin (talk) 09:10, 12 February 2016 (UTC) that would be so helpful and wonderful!!Reply

Could you please translate this?

  • Date of Dead
  • Place of Dead

Thanks --Katxis (talk) 09:24, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

sorry I forgot to ask how you say "Biography"

You can see it here Katxis (talk) 10:24, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

IngridC-Curtin (talk) 10:45, 12 February 2016 (UTC)thats ok - hmm it would be "baal kwel" they are ... translations aren't as direct as hoped. bit of imagination sometimes is required :)Reply

If you have articles about a country, for instance, about Australia, I can create a template as well. --Katxis (talk) 10:48, 12 February 2016 (UTC) IngridC-Curtin (talk) 12:15, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Can you give me some more details? I can create a template similar to one that appears here for countries or maybe cities, regions. --Katxis (talk) 12:22, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

IngridC-Curtin (talk) 13:11, 12 February 2016 (UTC) in noongar nation - the pocket of the south west there are 14 specific dialect areas. seen here [1] would it work for this?Reply

No, that's a different thing. Maybe I can create a template for cities with the following words: population, area, density. Are there different Noogar tribes? Katxis (talk) 13:34, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

IngridC-Curtin (talk) 14:35, 12 February 2016 (UTC) yes - 14.Reply

  • Nyakinyaki,
  • Wilman
  • Ganeang
  • Bibulmun,
  • Mineng
  • Goreng

Ok. In that case, could you please translate this:

  • List of Nyoongar tribes
  • Nyoongar tribes
  • Nyoongar seasonal calendar
  • Population
  • Language
  • Religion
  • Related tribes
  • See this article in Nyoongar

I will create a template for them. Katxis (talk) 14:39, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

People edit

hi! How do you say "People" in Nyoongar? Katxis (talk) 08:13, 29 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

People edit

Noongar means people of the southwest

And how do you say ajust "People"? --Katxis (talk) 14:18, 30 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
"noongar" is what you say for people, either as a individual or group IngridC-Curtin (talk) 05:39, 13 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

So how do you say "Noogar people" then? --Katxis (talk) 10:05, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

(talk)

Noongar is a noun - also a singular and plural not an adjective or descriptor.

so you can say Noongar Maaman - Noongar Man Noongar Yorga - woman with child Koorlingah - Child Nop - son

you could also say noongar moort for people as it translates to family or community.

and so on :)

We are loving all your help and edits by the way :)

Translation edit

How do you say "references" or "notes" in Noongar? --Katxis (talk) 10:39, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

```` references could be "ngiyan waarnk" or "who said" and notes "boorda kadadiny" for future reference
How do you say "Bibliography" and "external links" (maybe if there is no translation for external links, we could add "more information" instead). --Katxis (talk) 13:23, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Template for [Source?], aka [Citation needed] on English Wiki edit
The template is {{Wp/nys/Citation needed}} which results in a tag [source?]. Suggest only to be used for now where it is suspected a source exists that has been used but not given. All statements in a Wikipedia are supposed to sourced, but a bit heavy handed to ask for sources when building this Noongarpedia - especially when a lot of the knowledge is oral. Many thanks to User:Katxis for setting this template up Aarghdvaark (talk) 09:19, 26 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Noongar - English page headings edit
For Noongar who are not fluent in the language, it helps navigation if the English translation is also part of a page heading. We have tried the following formats:
  • Noongar/English, but '/' is a part of file names so could confuse a computer
  • Noongar: English, OK, e.g. Wp/nys/Yongka mokiny: Mammals (should possibly be "Yongka Mokiny"?)
  • Noongar - English, OK, but has problems with multiple Noongar words (which will happen given the different dialects), when it ends up like Noongar1 - Noongar2 - English, e.g. wp/nys/Kwer - Koora - Kwara - Wallaby
  • Noongar (English), this is my preferred suggestion, as in a page the link looks normal e.g. "with a five-pointed white Wp/nys/Jindang - Star beneath it" would become "with a five-pointed white Wp/nys/Jindang (Star) beneath it". So this reads as if we should be using the Noongar word, but the English translation is given as a help. And Kwer etc. could become wp/nys/Kwer, Koora, Kwara (Wallaby)
N.B. I think we should just keep the 'Wp/nys/' on the front of page name links for now, as presumably at some later time a bot will just go through and correct them all when the Noongarpedia hatches? Aarghdvaark (talk) 08:52, 29 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Translation edit
Hi! Could you please translate "six Noongar seasons" into Noongar so that I can create a template? Thanks. --Katxis (talk) 09:04, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Different Noongar words for same things edit
Hi Ingrid, not sure whether the different Noongar words are language groups or dialects. But the main point is I've set up a table for them, as requested by 167.30.56.53 (was this you BTW?) on the discussion page Wp/nys/Koitj (Axe). I'm assuming the original Noongar is Whadjuk. I've done this table also for the pages Wp/nys/Maali and Wp/nys/Balga as well. Just as a trial to see what people think. Obvious problem is which language group to go with for the title of the page! Aarghdvaark (talk) 07:56, 2 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
IngridC-Curtin (talk) 09:24, 3 September 2016 (UTC) Hi :)Reply
Whadjuk is just one of the 14 different dialect groups. With which dialect, this is one of the ongoing things we are trying to look at but my advice is go with what you find and we can always use redirects if another version of dialect wants to be recognised in similar content
Sorry, what's the matter with the file? --Katxis (talk) 17:42, 9 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Leaders, elders edit
Good idea to have a category about elders, but probably should be a Noongar word. Possibly Boordiya/Boodier: Noongar Leader, Noongar Boss person, or bridera/bridiya? Aarghdvaark (talk) 00:36, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Smoking Ceremony page edit
Hi Ingrid,
you edited the page Wp/nys/Smoking Ceremony, but your edits broke all the wiki links so the links now show up as red (i.e. broken)? For example you changed [[Wp/nys/Wonnil (Peppermint)]], which points to the page Wp/nys/Wonnil (Peppermint), to be [[Wonnil (Peppermint)]], which isn't part of the Noongarpedia and which doesn't exist as a page as can be seen by the red link Wonnil (Peppermint). I don't think you meant to do these edits? Aarghdvaark (talk) 14:01, 17 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Requested deletion of Wp/nys/Boorn Walbiryniny edit
Hi, Ingrid. Help me understand why this page should be deleted. I do not see that the information was moved to Wp/nys/Moort (the "more appropriate heading") you described, nor anywhere else. Thank you in advance for your response. StevenJ81 (talk) 23:23, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Not deleted because there was no response. Please feel free to get in touch with me when it is convenient for you. StevenJ81 (talk) 21:19, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ingrid, I've cleaned up both Wp/nys/Boorn Walbiryniny and Wp/nys/Birdiya and moved stuff over to Wp/nys/Birdiya if it wasn't there already. Wp/nys/Birdiya seemed what you were aiming for rather than Wp/nys/Moort? After checking everything from Wp/nys/Boorn Walbiryniny is also in Wp/nys/Birdiya, I've redirected Wp/nys/Boorn Walbiryniny to Wp/nys/Birdiya. This essentially deletes Wp/nys/Boorn Walbiryniny as requested. Aarghdvaark (talk) 07:09, 10 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
