Re: Automatic Conversion edit

No, it's not possible. Besides the fact that modern Vietnamese (and thus the Vietnamese Wikipedia) contains many, many words that didn't exist even a century ago, there's the issue that every modern Vietnamese word has multiple, completely different meanings, and the same goes for chữ Nôm, where most characters were chosen for their pronunciation at the time. For example, the modern Vietnamese word đồng has nine meanings and 36 corresponding Nôm characters, with no way to determine which character goes where in the sentence. Imagine having to convert a pinyin wiki into Han. :^) – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 06:11, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I couldn't answer to you couple years ago. There is miscommunication, so I want to explain.
I forgot how I questioned about it, but maybe I meant one-way conversion (Chữ Nôm → modern romanized Vietnamese). Of course, I know it is impossible to convert from modern romanized Vietnamese to chữ Nôm automatically. However, I thought Chữ Nôm → modern romanized Vietnamese is possible, so maybe I questioned it is right or not.
If possible, Vietnamese pages in the existing Vietnamese Wikimedia projects can be written both in Chữ Nôm and Latin alphabet (Scenario example: Articles written in Chữ Nôm can be rendered in Latin alphabet automatically. Of course, articles written in Latin alphabet can't be rendered in Chữ Nôm automatically). I suggested this model in Korean WP couple years ago but it was rejected by the community. Currently, Korean WP is written in Hangul exclusively, so I tried to add other form (written in mixed script of Hangul and Hanja). --Yes0song 07:44, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
