The Test-wp prefix

edit

Hi Timichal, I think that, now that we have a separate wiki for test-wikipedias, we can easily drop the Test-wp/ prefeix before all article names. On meta:, we had to do this because otherwise articles would risk deletion by overzealous meta sysops, but here it is only a hindrance which forces us to make long wikifications like Blahblah; which we can otherwise shorten to Blahblah. Do you agree with me? Steinbach 18:50, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I most definitely agree with you and I was going to eventually make the change after I clean up the Meta pages. The question is, wouldn't a Wikipedia/langcode/Blahblah address (or a similar one) be more effective? I can't think of any other way to distinguish eg. a test Wikipedia and Wikisource in the same language. However, such a prefix would be even longer than the current /test-wp/ one... Timichal
Or perhaps no prefix at all? Just the article name, with a category attached for the test-wiki it belongs to? That's much more practical when you transfer the pages once the new Wikipedia is created; and much easier when you're writing those articles. And duplicates would be rare - when they occur, in case of "Wikipedia", you might disambiguate them with the langauge code. Steinbach 20:55, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Are there any ways to automatically remove all prefixes "test-wp/chal" to "Test-WP/chal"? In the beginning of the wiki we had no experience and now there many conflicts between the two prefixes. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 05:55, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, there isn't any way of doing it automatically; however, the /test-wp/ prefix will probably be changed or dropped very soon, so you don't have to do these moves - it will need to be moved again anyway along with every other language on the Incubator. — Timichal • 12:46, 28. Jun 2006

Templates

edit

Hello. I have a question to you: how can I create and edit temptates in Incubator like CURRENTMONTHNAME, CURRENTDAY etc? I want to create original design for test siberian wikipedia, but I need to know about it. :)))))

Admin status

edit

Hi! I removed your temporary admin status here, per [1]. Jon Harald Søby 06:36, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

...and made you admin again, after Dbmag9 informed me of your RfA here (which the RFP page on Meta said nothing about). Sorry about the mistake. Jon Harald Søby 09:33, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello!

edit

Hi, I hope you enjoyed your holiday!

I've been quite busy here for the last few days. You'll have noticed the nice new logo we have; you can remove the notice informing people of the discussion. The rest of the stuff in brief:

 • I've created draft replacement of proposals for new projects and new language requests, as well as draft pages for test deletion and domain requesting. They're all subpages of my user page.
 • I've made some small changes to Incubator:Policy - nothing too drastic.
 • I've put up requests at Bugzilla to change the sitename and favicon here.
 • I've started up an RfA for myself (please comment/vote!).
 • I've put lots of comments up at the community portal.

Thank you!

Dbmag9 18:46, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I hope that you enjoyed your extended holiday!
The previous applies, but now I am an adminisrator (after 7 positive votes). You can see my contributions to find out what I've been doing.
Thank you! Dbmag9 14:43, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Thanks for your work and congratulations for your RfA success! I'm sure you'll be a perfect admin for this place! Your proposals look good, but I wonder what should be done to make them official....
I'm finally going to change the prefixes, as I'm not going anywhere in the following weeks :) I'll use your prefix suggestion for the moving. Again, thanks for all the work you've done here! — Timichal • 15:00, 19. Aug 2006
You're very welcome! I'm glad you like what I've been doing. If you want help with the prefixes, just tell me what to do. Dbmag9 15:16, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion: Test adminship

edit

Hi Timichal, Thank you for your offer. Unfortunetely, I have a very busy schedule, and I would like to use my free time only for the Zazaki Wikipedia, which is very important to me. So, I have to decline your offer. --Maviulke12 03:25, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oops! Of course, I accept your offer. By the way, I have a request for you. When you move the Zazaki Test-Wikipedia's pages, can you use the "zzz" code instead of "diq"? We change the proposed domain name to (zzz.wikipedia.org) on the Request for Zazaki Wikipedia's page [2]. Thanks in advance. --Maviulke12 00:27, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Test Admin Instruction Page?

edit

Hi. Thanks for the message that I have test admin status for Novial. Is there a page of instructions for new admins? Like a little tutorial, maybe. I guess I can work things out for myself if not. Nov ialiste 17:34, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Links to Wp/be/134, Wp/be/135 and Wp/be/14 лютага for example are red after moving. Where are pages? -- Antos’ Kazmyarchuk 12:33, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

That will be fixed after the moving is complete; don't worry. — Timichal
OK, thanks -- Antos’ Kazmyarchuk 12:40, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

One more question, if you please -- why do we get suffix be which is ISO -639-1, and not ISO-639-2,3, which is bel? We comply with the ethnologue and ISO 639 definition, like, 100%... Yury Tarasievich 12:42, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia's policy is to use ISO-639-1 codes whenever they are available, instead of -2 or -3. For example - there is no eng.wikipedia.org or ger.wikipedia.org - instead, en.wikipedia.org and de.wikipedia.org is used. — Timichal 12:46, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see, thank you. Yury Tarasievich 12:51, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Everything seems to be fine. Thanks! Yury Tarasievich 13:36, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Saterfrisian ynterface

edit

User:Pyt has a Saterfrisian translation of the interface on file. Would you be able to add that to the Incubator-project as a language choice? As it is, some potential writers of the stq wikipedia stay out of the project due to its foreign language interface. Aliter 20:14, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Should I take that as a no or a maybe? Aliter 02:56, 6 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Accidental deletion

edit

Hi Timichal, I see you deleted test-pages under /zh-hak/. This Wikipedia hasn't been created; Wuu and Classical have been, but Hakka is still not "approved". So it was not transfered by any bot. It would be appreciated if you un-delete it soon. Thanks, Node ue 01:59, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Will do, sorry about that. — Timichal 05:26, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I apparently deleted the talk-pages only, but anyway, they were restored. Thank you. — Timichal 05:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Novial Wikipedia needs admins

edit

Hi,

the Novial Wikipedia needs an admin or preferably 2. I was admin for the test wikipedia. There are 2 main contributors User BRG and myself. I propose that we both be made admins (oddly I may have partial admin rights, I'm not sure).

We need to be able to delete unwanted (accidental) pages. How do you make a page redirect to an existing page? Using "move" requires the target page to be overwritten. Is there an easier way?

At some point we shall also need a Sysop to translate links and change the Wikipedia logo (we have a Novial Wikipedia logo ready). Nov ialiste 21:26, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Administrative rights were granted. Aliter 22:54, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Right to left scripts

edit

Timichal, would you be able to set the insertion of the Ottoman/Arabic/Farsi characters in the Copy Ritght notice. I hope I was clear, but if not please refer to Azerbaicani editing as an example.

Is there any plan to have seprate incubator for the Rtl scripts? As you know it is not quite fair to test the new Rtl baby Wikipediya in a Left to right environment. Most of the time the new users find it very difficult to work with and may gave up all together.

For the Rtl scripts a button which changes the direction on the edit page would be a great help, similar to what has been done in Azerbaijani Wikipediya "rtl (ساغدان سولا)" which is done via MediyaViki:Monobook.js .

Thanks. -- Mehrdad 07:24, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism report

edit

I should alert you that padonki try to restore one article from their deleted test http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Test-wp/pad/%D0%A2%D0%B5%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%8F_%D0%9A%D0%BE%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B5%D0%B7%D0%B0

Btw the topic of this article is that God created the Universe from His Own shit, so I believe that the content is abusive not only for Slavs, but also for followers of many religions. I consider this is blatant vandalism --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 11:24, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Vandal

Hi, please could you block the IP 71.234.9.178? It is vandalizing user pages. Thank you. --Thogo 23:07, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello Timichal, I got the previous message. I figure I can only block a user for the whole Incubator and I fear I am not qualified for that. --Pyt 20:27, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Rotuman

edit

I've started the test page for Wikipedia Rotuman (see request here and test page here) and would like it listed on this page. How should I go about it? BTW do I need to become an administrator (in meta, en.wikipedia or incubator) to create the new wikipedia, or help it's testpage's development? --Mattbray 06:58, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

User:Pietras1988

edit

Hi, please block this troll.

This user goes around on all minor wikis and bothers users with a request that they write an article on his native city Kurów. Even the smallest wikis in languages spoken thousands of miles away from Poland are targeted. No user should ever fulfil such requests: it creates a precedent, everyone else can do similar requests and frustrate the creation of a normal Wikipedia.

But what is worse: when someone refuses he gets highly incivil and starts throwing around silly insults. He recently did so on the Zeelandic Wikipedia, where I warned him several times and in the end blocked him. Under an IP number, he subsequently said I had to fuck myself, I was a Jew (quod non) and he hated Jews. Which resulted in an infinite block of course.

When I checked his account at the Polish Wikipedia, Polish being presumably his native tongue, I discovered he has recently been blocked for two years and that he has a very long history in undecent behaviour there: watch this... To me, this seems enough reason to block him, or to give him a firm warning at least. Btw: is there actually a page for block requests on this wiki? Steinbach 21:59, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

 1. Request is my idea and other users also asked about own home towns
 2. My idea is popular in Poland (I gift interviews to a lot of newspapers, TV programms and radios)
 3. Yes, I have block because Polish admins are cheekies and lastly I pleased for infinitive ban for me but other users give me only 2 years
 4. steinbach deleted article about Kurów who I alone made and after banned me
 5. I have dynamic IP

Wp/twd

edit

Could Wp/twd be deleted? I know that I:P is not official yet, (it is only proposed) but there is not a deletion policy as of yet so could this project be deleted as the only edits in the past year have been bots, a category addition, and a move from an unconventional name. Lost page

edit

Incubator:Lost pages/Malz should be relocated at Wp/dsb/Malz, but there is already an article there. The latter is shorter, has deficiencies in spelling (no accents) and does not contain any information the former wouldn't have. Should the content just be copied there, or is it possible to do some sort of a delete/move trick in order to preserve the modification history?`Malhonen 14:58, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
