About Tungusic languages

Hello. My Wiki name is MiiCii, a Chinese with Han Chinese and Manchu descents. May I ask you a question? Do you have access to websites, including studies and articles on Tungusic languages in your country? If there are some Wikipedians who can use Tungusic languages (Evenk, Even, Negidal, Oroch, Udege, Ulch etc.), it will be better. -- MiiCii (talk) 10:05, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

• Hello! Because of the small number of native speakers, I don't think there will be very many such Wikipedians. Оний Постор states that he is interested in everything connected with Evenkia, and he himself is 1/3 Tungus. Nikolay N. Pavlov is Sakha (Yakut) wiki-activist, but he always happy to help the languages of Siberia, including the project in the Evenk language. As for books, you can use, for example, evenkiteka.ru. With the exception of Evenki and Even, the rest of the languages on your list are too small in terms of the number of speakers to hope for the existence of some kind of literature in the Web. Khakas Wikipedia

• Hello Soul Train. I saw that you removed main category Wp/kjh from some pages/subcategories in test wikipedia in Khakas language. I don't understand why you did it, because as far as I know the rule is that every page and category in test wiki should have main category, in this case Wp/kjh. Are the rules changed, or perhaps you made mistake? --PatrickDubois125 (talk) 18:56, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
  • This is not necessarily a rule, but some wikis use the number of pages in the main category to track how many articles they have. Afaics, the main page of Wp/kjh does use this (https://incubator.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Wp/kjh/NUMBEROFARTICLES&action=edit). --MF-W {a, b} 19:05, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
  • I believe, articles should be included in the category tree. Ideally, the main category (Wp/xxx) should contain only subcategories, without any article. As MF-Warburg wrote, the MediaWiki engine perfectly calculates the number of articles in a project itself, without the need for manual counting in the main category. Otherwise, it gets a "loop" - we have articles included in some categories that are included in the main category in which these articles included themselves. — Soul Train (talk) 11:02, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Question on copyright of Сравнительный словарь тунгусо-маньчжурских языков

Hello Soul Train, thank you for your advice last month. With the help of one of my acquaintance who has advanced knowledge on Tungusic, I've found some scientific articles about those languages on a Russian website named Monumenta Altaica.

The site provides a number of studies on Tungusic languages, including Сравнительный словарь тунгусо-маньчжурских языков, written by a Soviet linguist V.I.Tsintsius. The series consists of an Introduction , Vol.1(A-Ӈ) and Vol.2 (О-Э).

In my view, for some endangered Tungusic languages, including Manchu, Oroch, Negidal, Ulch, Orok and Udege, some efficient ways (such as recording voice, creating databases/archives etc.) to record the still living languages are imminently needed. These will be the possible ways to guarantee the survival of these Tungusic languages from generation to generation.

Because I almost can't speak Russian now, it'll be a great challenge for me to comprehend the Russian translations on the dictionary. If the dictionary was in the public domain, I would plan to create a new page on Wikisource based on it, especially focusing on the languages in the list above.

Could you help checking the Introduction and telling me whether the dictionary is in the public domain? I would be very appreciated.— MiiCii (talk) 18:19, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

• That was the work of the Institute of Linguistics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, now its Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. I'm not sure that this publication is in the public domain. — Soul Train (talk) 18:47, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Ногайская википедия

Ну тогда зовите своих знакомых! 😎 Мы в 2020 году скоординировалась с алтайцами и сумели за 10 месяцев открыть Алтайскую Википедию. Участница Толуш за это даже Вики-премию получила. Главное, чтобы были носители и они были заинтересованы в работе по созданию своей Википедии. Системные сообщения переводятся на сайте translatewiki.net. Даргинская википедия
