Welcome to Wikimedia Incubator!
At the right there are some important links, and here are some tips and info:
- If you haven't created a user page yet, please create one with for example Babel templates on it.
- You can select your interface language in your preferences.
- If you make articles, templates or categories, don't forget to add a prefix!
- If your knowledge of English is good, you can help with translating pages to other languages you know, so more people can understand it!
- If you want to translate the interface, please go to Translatewiki.net and follow the instructions.
"Pure" Moroccan test vs. Maghrebi project
editI certainly understand your point of view. This is not something that needs to be decided now, so do not get too concerned for the time being. Just work on your own project for now.
Let me add the following. Please don't even answer me now, just think about it.
- There was a lot of hostility from the Arabic Wikipedia community not too long ago when LangCom went to mark the request for a Sanaani Wikipedia project as "eligible". (See m:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Sanaani.) Many in the arwiki community push hard for the idea that Standard Arabic is everyone's written language, and that everyone can understand it in writing. They argue that there should only be one Wikipedia in Arabic—or at worst two, since the Egyptian project was created before the current rules went into effect.
- By the current rules, there is a good argument to be made for that position. At the same time, I think it is well-understood that while there is a standard written version of Arabic, there is also a large number of spoken, everyday forms that are very different from each other. And in particular, the Maghrebi group of Arabic varieties tends to be particularly different from the others. Yes, there are differences among the different Maghrebi versions—but they still tend to be more like each other than they are like others to the east (like Egyptian, Arabian, and so forth). It may be easier to get final approval for a single project that covers the entire Maghreb than it will be to get final approval for several individual projects.
- Remember, also, that for this purpose, it matters less how well you understand things when people speak (quickly or slowly), but how well you understand when people write.
Honestly, I do not know how this will go, and a lot will depend on what LangCom thinks about the problem once the project is otherwise ready to go. I encourage you to wait, to be patient, and to see where LangCom is at that future time. Until then, just work on Moroccan Arabic. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:47, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
Leaving broken redirects
editPlease be careful when moving pages—especially redirects—without leaving redirects. You have to check first for incoming links and retarget them to the new target. You recently left broken redirects at Wp/ary/لأرض and Wp/ary/L'ardo that I had to fix. If you have a choice between leaving a broken redirect and a double redirect, it's better to leave a double redirect, because bots come and fix them automatically.
