D'accord. Merci pour ton aide. --Katxis100 (talk) 15:50, 16 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Katxis (talk) I've been trying to add these translations to the infobox for the USA page, https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/kbp/Etaazuunii_(États-Unis), but haven't succeeded. Please can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? It would be great to have a single template that we can apply to all the countries, because I have some non-Kabiye speaking volunteers who are willing to help us, and some of the information in the infobox would be a good place for them to start. Approbation du Wikipédia en kabiyè

edit

Salut! Ça va? J'ai vu ton message demandant quoi faire pour avoir votre Wikipédia approuvé. J'ai vu que vous n'avez pas traduit les massages principaux (ces quie disent "Most used core messages: more than 500 untranslated messages"). D'ailleurs, vous devez être trois utilisateurs au minimum et travailler de façon continue pendant trois mois. --Katxis (talk) 22:03, 10 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Katxis (talk) Thanks for your help. We've brought another guy on board today, and I'm in contact with some other volunteers too, so we should be able to meet the second requirement over the coming months. But I'm confused about the first requirement. Where do I find the 500 untranslated messages, and where do I post the translated ones? As soon as you tell us, we can get working on them.Gnangbade (talk) 01:24, 22 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi again Katxis (talk) OK, I found the list on https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate&group=core-0-mostused&filter=&action=translate. But I'm not sure how to use this page. Where do I post the translations? When I try to choose "translate Kabiyè" in the top RH corner it doesn't let me. I also tried to export the list to work on it offline, but that didn't work either. Any advice welcome Gnangbade (talk) 01:32, 22 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Editing titles and deleting articles

edit

Hi Katxis (talk) Please can you tell me how to obtain administrator rights for the Kabiye Wikipedia? I would like to be able to edit titles and delete articles, since we have some that are incorrectly named and others that are doubles. Gnangbade (talk) 09:38, 26 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Organizing Wikipedia workshops

edit

Hi Katxis (talk) - or anyone else for that matter - I would be interested in organizing a Wikipedia workshop here in Togo to attract new Kabiye collaborators. Can you give me any pointers as to how to do that please? For instance, is there a roving Wikipedia workshop speaker who we could invite? Is there a workshop manual I could follow? Does Wikipedia fund this kind of initiative? Any info welcome.Gnangbade (talk) 12:15, 26 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I reallay don't have any idea about that. I know that the Cataln Wikipedia has gather some people in a library to teach them how to edit on Wikipedia. There are other in ENglish for instance. There is another thing called Wikimarathon, that is, they gather for X days to create articles about biology/whatever topic needed in that Wikipedia. --Katxis (talk) 14:37, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Adding language prefixes

I've tried but I don't know how to help you. Usually, templates from the English Wikipedia are quite complex, so my advise is that you copy them from another Wikipedia. --Katxis (talk) 14:46, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Article

Could you create an article about Paamaala : suye maɖʋ sɔsɔ, please? --Katxis (talk) 19:42, 30 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Well we could, but please can you tell me why you think it's a priority? It probably sounds more impressive than it really is. The book(let) only had a print run of 500 and most of the stock is still sitting in the cupboard. Also, Kabiye print literacy has traditionally focussed inwardly on kabiye culture alone and we want to break that mould. One of our primary aims with the Wikipedia project is to focus on the big wide world beyond the borders of Togo, with the hope of encouraging literacy among urban educated young people. So we're translating subjects that are specifically nothing to do with Kabiyeland. Gnangbade (talk) 19:53, 30 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I also found this. --Katxis (talk) 19:44, 30 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

How do you say "Asia" in Kabiye: "Ajeya" or "Aasii"? --Katxis (talk) 17:42, 2 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Katxis (talk) Asia = "Aasii". Countries = "Ajɛya" (not "Ajeya", i.e. the category is currently spelled wrongly and needs changing. Is there anyway of making that change automatically with a 'find and replace' function? Gnangbade (talk) 17:47, 2 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Tell me the right spelling and I'll change it myself. --Katxis (talk) 17:48, 2 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
The correct spelling of countries is "Ajɛya" (with epsilon instead of 'e').Gnangbade (talk) 17:53, 2 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for doing this. Please could you also change "Wp/kbp/Kʋnʋŋ" to "Wp/kbp/Kʋdʋmɩŋ" and "Wp/kbp/Takayaɣ mayʋ" to " "Wp/kbp/Takayaɣ mayaa".

Send me a list and I'll do it. --Katxis (talk) 19:32, 3 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Katxis (talk), Ok, for starters, please could you change the titles below so that they begin with capital letters. That way they'll get listed alphabetically with the rest of the index:

  • Wp/kbp/akpendu
  • Wp/kbp/caanaʊ tɔm
  • Wp/kbp/hɛɖʊʊ
  • Wp/kbp/miŋ
  • Wp/kbp/mooti
  • Wp/kbp/sɔnzɩ
  • Wp/kbp/tɩʊ

Gnangbade (talk) 21:01, 3 April 2016 (UTC) It is done. --Katxis (talk) 07:20, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Katxis (talk) Thanks for doing this. Unfortunately, as quickly as you edited these, the team here have produced some more. I'm trying to train them to enter the titles correctly. We'll get there. In the meantime, please could you change these to begin with capital letters:
  • Wp/kbp/kooreyɛ kʊnʊŋ
  • Wp/kbp/krɩkɛtɩ

and this one without a preceding space:

  • Wp/kbp/ Amharikii kʊnʊŋ

Katxis (talk) 14:42, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand. Surely you don't mean that the translators have to come to this discussion page every time they want to access the Kabiye Wikipedia from now on? Gnangbade (talk) 14:45, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

You can type Wp/kbp/Name of the article in the search bar. That's why I do. Besides, you can choose your preferences (on the very top) and change the language to kbp so when you type "Name of the article" it wil come automatically as Wp/kbp/Name of the article. Katxis (talk) 14:47, 4 April 2016 (UTC) OK, that's fine, but how do the translators create a _new_ article from now on? Gnangbade (talk) 14:50, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

As I told you, you name the page you want to create, click on the red link a start editing. Katxis (talk) 14:52, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

OK, I get it. But I do not want to change my language preference to kbp, because I am sending detailed instructions to monolingual English contributors, and therefore need my own interface to be in English, at least for the moment Gnangbade (talk) 14:58, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

How do you say "Social Sciences" in Kabiye? Katxis (talk) 14:52, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

@SFLord Could you please add more information on the templates and not just the images so that the article is completed? Thank you for your help. --Katxis (talk) 09:23, 12 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Katxis - sorry for this late reply; Since you contacted me, I have been (slowly) working my way through the country pages in Wp/kbp, adding the following statistics - Area (in sq/km), estimated population, year of estimate and population density (per sq/km). All of these figures have been taken from Wikipedia and in some cases some of the figures are not given (for example Wp/kbp/Peenɛɛ_(Bénin) has no population density figures because there are none shown in the Wikipedia page). Other persons who work on this same project will add more info.--SFLord (talk) 18:11, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Gnangbade - All of the country pages in the Kabiye Wikipedia have now been updated with area, population and population density statistics, as derived from the relevant Wikipedia pages. There is a page which appears to be for Hungary Wp/kbp/Hɔŋirii; can you confirm that this is the case and I will update it. Still no pages for Colombia or North Korea. --SFLord (talk) 11:43, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

The undoing of my edits

Of course if you (exactly you) want me not to contribute for Wp/kpb I will not do this, although another local users weren't confused by my edits. I even actually undestand you because I don't speak the language, I'm an alien there and such.

But what's for this edit - I want to see your special comment. Is the Jutlandic project your area of interest or there's another problem? --Ghiutun 14:40, 5 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ghiutun This is weird, I have no recollection at all of making this edit, and am certainly not qualified to edit the jut Wikipedia. Please put it down to a late night mistake. I appreciate your help with the kbp Wikipedia by the way. Gnangbade (talk) 16:46, 6 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Moving Pages

edit

Hi Katxis I'm trying to work out how to move pages myself but am stuck. I scroll down on the "more" tab, choose "move", and that takes me to a new page, ok. But under "new title" I can't type anything, it's just a scroll down list beginning "(Main), Talk, User...". So how do I rename an article? There are dozens of pages in the Kabiye Wikipedia that need moving. Gnangbade (talk) 21:59, 18 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

You have to write the new name on the tab on the right to that one that says "Main" so on the left one should be written "Main" (it appears as default option) and on the right one you should write Wp/kbp/NAme of the page. --Katxis (talk) 22:02, 18 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi Katxis thanks for the speedy reply. Dead simple when you know how. I've been trying to work out how to do this for over a year haha Gnangbade (talk) 22:05, 18 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Translate

edit

Could you please translate this?

Biology is a natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, evolution, distribution, identification and taxonomy.

Thanks for your help. --Katxis (talk) 14:02, 20 January 2017 (UTC) Hi Katxis. Into what language? Gnangbade (talk) 19:55, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Kabiyè of course :) --Katxis (talk) 21:06, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Katxis Here's the translation:

"Wezuu lɛɣtʋ piliŋa kɛ kedeŋa lɛɣtʋ. Ka-tamaɣ kɔyɔ se, kañɩnɩ nɛ katɩlɩ mbʋ payaɣ se wezuu yɔ nɛ pilinzi yaa hokasɩ nzɩ sɩhaɣ wezuu yɔ. Wezuu lɛɣtʋ piliŋa ñɩnɩɣ se katɩlɩ hokasɩ wɛtʋ nɛ sɩ-tʋmɩyɛ nɛ sɩ-paɣlaka nɛ sɩ-lɛɣzʋʋ nɛ ɛzɩma ɛyʋ tɩlɩɣ-sɩ yɔ nɛ si-lona ɖeɖe."

In future, please could you address translation questions to one of the following users who are L1 Kabiye speakers: Kamazina or Siraq123. Thanks for your interest in the Kabiye Wikipedia Gnangbade (talk) 08:59, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

OK. Just one doubt. In your translation I presume that "biology" is rendered as Wezuu lɛɣtʋ, however, before it was translated as "Tomnaɣ lɛɣtʋ". Which term is correct or more accurate? --Katxis (talk) 09:03, 24 January 2017 (UTC) Hi KatxisReply

Wezuu lɛɣtʋ = Science de la vie
Tomnaɣ lɛɣtʋ = Biologie

Correctness

edit

Which article is the correct one?

  • Wp/kbp/Caanaʊ tɔm
  • Wp/kbp/Caanaʋ tɔm

--Katxis (talk) 13:43, 2 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Katxis - as far as I can see they are almost identical, except for a few minor spelling differences. As for the title, some writers are writer <ʋ> (the standard orthography), while others are writing <ʊ> (regional practice in some other neighboring languages). They both represent the same vowel. I suggest we delete "Wp/kbp/Caanaʊ tɔm". Gnangbade (talk) 15:51, 2 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've seen that the Wikipedia has been approved. I am done categorising the last articles. Once the Wikipedia is moved, I would suggest to organise all the information i.e. create categories and templates so it is easier for users to search. --Katxis (talk) 09:20, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Katxis Yes, we're pleased about the approval too. That's partly thanks to all your help too. I understand we're going to be exported to the Wikipedia platform on 25 May. After that I may be in touch to follow up your advice about creating categories and templates. Gnangbade (talk) 14:04, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to contact me I will try to do my best to help you out with the Wikipedia. --Katxis (talk) 14:12, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Katxis. Please can you address this question in French to either Kamazina or Siraq123.

Test administrator status expires in late May

edit

This is to remind you that your test-administrator rights will expire late in May. (See Incubator:Test-administrators.)

  • If you wish to continue as a test administrator, please put a request for renewal at I:RFTA approximately one week before expiration. Ideally, please also notify your test community on an appropriate page that you have a Request for Test Administrator open.
  • If you do not wish to continue, you do not need to do anything, and your rights will be turned off when your term expires.

Thank you. StevenJ81 (talk) (Incubator bureaucrat) 21:29, 7 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

hi StevenJ81 thanks for the alert. I've made the request for renewal Gnangbade (talk) 19:51, 8 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Replied there. Mostly, I want you and your community to focus on getting those messages translated at translatewiki.net so that we can get your project out of here!
Yes, me too! Gnangbade (talk) 20:02, 8 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Remember that test-admin status does not carry over to the newly created project. As soon as the Phabricator ticket gets flipped back over to "Active" from "Stalled" I'll tell you what you need to do about that. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:59, 8 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks for the tip-off, I hadn't realized that. Gnangbade (talk) 20:02, 8 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
hi StevenJ81 just to let you know that we have now translated a further 130 of the most used messages. Let me know if there's anything else we need to do Gnangbade (talk) 14:00, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
It looks to me like you're good to go, and if what I see in the previous section is correct, you already have a proposed export date. Congratulations!
With respect to administrator rights on the new project, I'll post something to your talk page once your project has been exported. But you can get a preview by looking here. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:13, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks StevenJ81. Looks like there's some hold up with the migration. It was supposed to happen on 25th May, then on 30th, but still no movement. Gnangbade (talk) 09:07, 1 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I put up a question at phab:T160915, which has to clear before we can get to phab:T160868 itself. Keep an eye on both of those yourself, too. Let's see if we can't get things moving along. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:07, 2 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Export

edit

Hi, I imported all Kabiye pages to kbp:. Please inform me if something is missing so that I can import those pages as well. Best of luck with the new wiki, and best regards --MF-W {a, b} 00:21, 24 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi MF-W Many thanks indeed for your work on this, we've been waiting three years for this big day! However, the main page states that there are 218 articles, but according to my most recent count (today) there are 1045 articles. Please can you explain this difference? Gnangbade (talk) 19:47, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I gather the new page count function does not always work right in new wikis, though I don't know why. But if you go to kbp:Special:AllPages, there's a list there that is (roughly) 1,050 articles long. (Each page of the list contains around 350 entries, though that's not exact and does count redirects.) StevenJ81 (talk) 20:01, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
There are some problems with statistics not counting correctly on new wikis. But see also mw:Manual:Article count: articles without at least 1 link are not counted. --MF-W {a, b} 11:34, 30 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
To that end, I plan to remove your test administrator rights one week from now, as they are no longer necessary here.
  • Remember that test-admins do not automatically become administrators on the new project. To become an administrator, you need to do the following:
  1. Create an "RfA" page (the equivalent of I:RFA or m:WM:RFA) and open a nomination there. It needs to run at least seven days.
  2. When seven days are up, go to m:SRP and ask the stewards to give you administrator rights. As long as there are no objections at the local wiki discussion, they will do that.
  3. Administrator status in small and startup wikis is always temporary. Stewards usually start people off with three months, but if you mention that you were a test admin here, they might let you start with six months.
Any questions about that, please let me or MF-W know. Again, congratulations and good luck! StevenJ81 (talk) 14:37, 26 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi StevenJ81. Thanks for your message, but I don't understand the first step. How do I create an RfA page? The link to I:RFA leads me to an existing page in which the section "Requests for adminship" states "this page has been protected so that only registered users can edit it." Hoping you can clarify please. Gnangbade (talk) 20:00, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry for the confusion. You have to create an equivalent page on your new wiki, not here. (In early days of the project, you could ask on your Community Portal/Bistro/Village Pump, too. But in the long run you'll want a separate page for such things.) StevenJ81 (talk) 20:03, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
