Incubator talk:Translation project
Maybe add I:P to the list under the heading 'translated'? --Ooswesthoesbes 18:33, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I was doubting. But you may add it. SPQRobin 18:44, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Priority
editMost languages of priority 4 group should be placed in priority 5 shouldn't they? What's the point about Danish or Estonian localisation? There are no languages with Danish or Estonian as Dachsprache. Perhaps Danish or Estonian dialects, but I don't think it is of much use to localize pages for one or two dialect test projects that will temporarily be hosted on the Incubator.
I guess it's okay to have Danish or Estonian Main Pages with a text about what Incubator is (prominently saying most likely not that interesting if your main language is Danish or Estonian). But I see no point in pages about internal working processes in languages other than the colonial languages. English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian, Indonesian, Arabic, Hindi and perhaps some others (Turkish, Dutch, Afrikaans, Swahili etc. if they cover many languages not covered by other languages). But we don't need pages like Incubator:Upload in non-colonial European languages like Danish, Estonian, German, Catalan, Czech etc.pp., do we?
I am really a fan of localization, but I too made the experience, that you often can't keep up with the speed of changes of the reference material in an wiki environment. We are doing much too much, if we try to translate to Danish and Estonian and Catalan and and and. --::Slomox:: >< 02:32, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, but it isn't either meant to be translated. I mean, priority 4 is not a priority any more. Take e.g. Dutch, it's not a priority language but I'm active here. So given that there is someone who wants to keep up with the language, it may be translated. Otherwise, it's not recommended. I'll try to make this clear on the page. SPQRobin 16:33, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Your language is official in Suriname, so, due to aboriginal population, it can be considered priority 1. (And its derivate, Afrikaans, is spoken in Namibia and South Africa, raising its importance further.) We should discuss how many priority groups we want, and what would be their parameters... - Xbspiro 18:32, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- It's difficult to draw the line somewhere. Maybe we could take a three-priority system:
- ar, es, fr, pt, ru, zh(-hans/hant) (UN official languages) + pt (that is seriously lacking as UN official language)
- Other languages used as a second language by priority 3 language(s) [~Dachsprachen]
- Regional languages used by people who mostly speak a priority 1/2 language as well

- It's difficult to draw the line somewhere. Maybe we could take a three-priority system:
- For P1 languages, this suggestion would be clear enough. For P2/3 languages, it would need a little more tuning. For example my language, Hungarian, is not spoken as a second language by a significant amount of people, yet its speakers does not speak a foreign language either - we have way too much monolinguals. My question is: do we need to distinguish between P2 and P3? Influenced by you, I also thought of a three-priority system:
- 1A: UN languages + pt;
- 1B: any language if we host a project of it;
- 2: all the others.
- So, for example German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Hungarian, Estonian etc. would all be P2. - Xbspiro 19:36, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, that would make a lot of languages that are considered dialects as priority 2. We could say, if there is doubt between priority 2 & 3 (in my system), take 2. That would make Hungarian P2 but e.g. Limburgish P3. SPQRobin 20:05, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

- True. What about: P1 (UN languages + pt), P2 (other languages), P3 (dialects)? (There would be no 1B in this case.) This structure might be easier to fill. - Xbspiro 20:42, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, was thinking about that as well but "dialect" is not always clear. But it's good as a guideline. SPQRobin 21:12, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
History
editI found it on this page, that translator rights could have been asked for here. However, when I tried to dig a few of those requests up from page history, none came up. I found that Template:Test wiki/translations was working as a request page until 10 August 2010. Am I right? - Xbspiro 20:01, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, you're probably right. Don't mind too much about that, this page was quite messy/outdated/copy-paste :-) SPQRobin 20:13, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Request for Translation
editWhy is that Lai language is not listed for the translation? It already had a test wiki. I search in the language bar, but there is none. I would love to translate! --Salai Rungtoi (talk) 17:39, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
- You are free to translate into it. The list only includes languages that have translations so far. See also the explanation about priorities on Incubator:Translation_project#Important_pages_per_language. --MF-W {a, b} 17:05, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
Translation of azb
editI want to translate and create pages needed (For example: This), but it doesn't let me to do this. Why? --Arjanizary (talk) 16:21, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Arjanizary: I answer a bit late, but MediaWiki pages cannot be created by normal users. Translate the text and ask an administrator to create the page for you. - Xbspiro (talk) 01:40, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
