Incubator:ISO 639
Wikimedia does not determine what constitutes a language or a dialect. Instead, we adhere to the ISO 639 standard. Every Wikimedia language edition must have a valid ISO 639-1 or ISO 639-3 code. Note that all languages with an ISO 639-1 code also have an ISO 639-3 code, but the reverse is not true.
Code Selection
edit- If an ISO 639-1 code is available, it must be used.
- If no ISO 639-1 code exists, the ISO 639-3 code should be used.
- If neither code is available, the language cannot currently be supported on Wikimedia. However, you can request a new code. Be aware that this process can take significant time.
