Definition of status "existing"
edit"a language that has an existing wiki in all WMF projects" - does this mean at least one wiki which can be wp, wt, ws, ... or does this mean Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, Wikinews, Wikiquote, Wikisource and Wikiversity exist in that language? Also, this does not necessarily say the code is valid... Think about simple:. --MF-W {a, b} 13:44, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- If a language has all of them. Feel free to reword :-) And "simple" has not yet all of them, so "simple" is "invalid" (a new request (for a wikiquote iirc) has been rejected by the langcom). SPQRobin 13:57, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- (much later update): We're currently using "existing" for any language having all of wp, wt, wb, wn, wq and wy—the projects which would be hosted here on Incubator—even if the language does not have an independent ws or wv. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:14, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
Missing codes.

- Vep code is OK - here is the SIL link, so I change the status. Sura 21:43, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Collective codes
editProbably a new category should be created for Wb/nah and Wp/sla – they are using collective codes (which is even worse than macrolanguage codes). ---Filemon 16:47, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- Feel free to add it. And thanks for completing the list! Btw, I think that nah projects are allowed because they write in "classical" Nahuatl, and not in the actual spoken languages. SPQRobin 19:11, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- Classical Nahuatl have its own individual code too (nci). But I added also the annotation "unless this language already has a Wikimedia wiki" – that's the nah (and bh) case. --Filemon 17:07, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
New entry

Ethnologue and template data
editEthnologue and SIL seem to be both excellent source of info for getting the status of languages and correcting template data as the template has many mistakes that need to be fixed.
For example, |smu = history should be changed to |smu = nearext. This language is classified as being 8a (moribund) not 10 (extinct) on Ethnologue although the SIL code status page is erroneous.
https://www.ethnologue.com/language/smu
http://www-01.sil.org/iso639-3/documentation.asp?id=smu
Another mistake is |aaf = nearext should be corrected to |aaf = valid as language rating is 6b (threatened) on Ethnologue.
https://www.ethnologue.com/language/aaf
Also the 2017 codes are completely missing. Some are ukk, gie, lth and ibh.
http://www-01.sil.org/iso639-3/chg_requests.asp?order=CR_Number&chg_status=2016
Can the mistakes in template data be dixed (fixed) and missing codes be inserted so this template has consistency. Those inconsistencies are making this template more misleading. Please use SIL and Ethnologue for corrections. If SIL provides erroneous data, use Ethnologue instead.

- Done for third one only, I would leave first and second to @StevenJ81: for investigation. Note that not only Wikipedia(s) and Ethnologue, there are also Glottolog, Linguasphere, GOST, BNCF Thesaurus... or just search in Google+ or ask in Quora to verify if those languages are having L1/L2 speakers or not. Tutte le strade portano a Roma. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 11:35, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- I will look into this. Still, please understand the following:
- This template was originally populated by a script. There are enormous numbers of language codes here, and nobody here has the time to update them all systematically.
- This "template" is a subtemplate of
{{Test wiki}}
. It is meant to feed correct categorization information to pages carrying that template (and to a couple of the varieties of{{code-disambig}}
). When new root pages are added, we usually do update the respective language codes on this subtemplate. But the subtemplate is not intended to be an independent resource; I would have people go directly to SIL and Ethnologue for that. - Ethnologue is a project of SIL. I expect them to be consistent, understanding there can be some time lags between them from time to time. That said, the call on SIL's code page is definitive for our purposes, at least per current rules.
- "nearext" is, to some extent, a subjective category. You are welcome to suggest changes on such things. But there is not necessarily a direct correlation between Ethnologue's status and whether we mark something as nearext.
- If you wish either of the above rules to change, make a suggestion at I:CP. I would probably resist, though, as it would require a lot of work that people here may not really have time for. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:49, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- I will change "smu" to nearext. I'm going to leave "aaf" as nearext, because regardless of its status on Ethnologue, there is no evidence of more than a few hundred speakers. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:54, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Code add request
editszs, npx, wbs, nql, and xdo are still missing, please add them.

If we are interesting that why there are still four pending requests
editHere are inputs that my another email got:
Dear Mr. Liu,
We have had some Europeans suggest that they would make a decision about the Greek proposals, but they have not submitted something yet. We did not think that some Americans should make the decision about these proposals without European input, so we are waiting for a new proposal that would resolve the three.
As for the Vedic Sanskrit, it will be accepted. But it will require the creation of a macrolanguage code for Sanskrit and Vedic Sanskrit to be tied together, which requires someone to submit a description of the later Sanskrit (a New Code Request form) which has never happened. If this doesn't happen in the next year, I will need to do the research to finalize the decision.
Thank you for your interest in these requests.
