Sylheti Nagri and Bengali–Assamese script

Hello, dear contributors to the Sylheti Wikipedia! Pinging the most active users by edit count: @ꠢꠣꠍꠘ ꠞꠣꠎꠣ, @AbuSayeed, @Sylhetiwiki, @নবাব, @Asmani Haz, @Alim Uddin Chowdhury.

Two days ago, I proposed to the language committee that the Sylheti Wikipedia should be approved. You've all done a great job so far, so keep it going! After I sent the mail proposing approval, I received an email from a user who said that there could be a potential problem with the script used in the Sylheti Wikipedia. As you know, the Sylheti Nagri script is used here, but this user says that the Bengali–Assamese script is also commonly used for Sylheti (perhaps even more common than Sylheti Nagri?).

This user also pointed me to this functional bidirectional converter for Sylheti Nagri–Bengali script (demo). You may not be aware, but MediaWiki supports such conversion for several languages, and creating a converter like this for Sylheti would actually be relatively straightforward. Some examples of languages that already have converters in MediaWiki include Chinese, Serbian, Kazakh, Crimean Tatar and more (on desktop computers you can see this functionality next to the "Talk" tab above all articles).

So what do you think? Does the converter I linked above work well, and should we implement this for the Sylheti Wikimedia projects too? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 09:13, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
