Does anyone know if there is an internet access to Marshall Islands? Introgressive 16:04, 1 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Internet access in the Marshalls is somewhat limited. There is a United States military base there, and most of the Americans who live there have internet access, but few speak Marshallese. There are some people with internet access on Majuro, the capital, but internet access in most of the country more or less doesn't exist. However, there are native Marshallese speakers in the United States and elsewhere around the world, where internet access is common.

REQUEST

edit

Hello! I`ve got one request for you. I collect words in various languages. Now I`m looking for word "sugar" in other languages, but I can`t find a Marshallese dictionary. I`ve got counterparts of word "sugar" in Japanese, Ahmaric, Thai, Georgian and Chinese, so can you write me what is "sugar" in Marshallese language? I`ve got this word in 281 languages and dialects of many regions and countries in the world so it is very important for me! Thank you very much! Szoltys <talk>

The word for "sugar" in Marshallese is "juga." It's just English with a Marshallese pronunciation.

Making a Marshallese Wikipedia

edit

A friend of mine is a school teacher in the Marshall Islands. She does not have internet access, but we send data back and forth by snailmail post (aren't flash memory devices wonderful?). I presume it would be possible to send this incipient Wikipedia (along with the English version) to the islands for editing, and then to upload the edits here. How, technically, would I go about this?

I can figure out how to download the English Wikipedia:Database download, but the remote editing is more complicated. This Whizzy Digital Courier Project looks like roughly what I need - there's even a page on how to use it for Wikipedia. Unfortunately, while I run Gentoo Linux, but I believe my friend runs Windows on her laptop, and I doubt she wants to wipe it. Sending her another laptop would be possible if necessary.

Any how-to advice or links would be most welcome. Has someone done this before? Am I posting this in the wrong forum?

Hello!

The Wikimedia Foundation recently updated the official Wikipedia globe. We realize that a lot of projects have never had a localized logo in their native language, so we are making sure that we create logos for every Wikipedia project that we have. The only issue is: we can't figure out what should be on your localized logo. :-)
