Proparoxytone or Paroxytone?

edit

Lefcant, in which dictionary did you find Ὀδύσσεια? Woodhouse, which I used when writing this article, had the accent on the iota. After seeing your edit, I looked in my Liddell and Scott's which had the accent where you put it. Were there alternative ways of spelling this word, or did one of the dictionaries get it wrong (in which case I shall be disillusioned, and never able to trust another human being again)? Well I have a German-Ancient greek dictionary but nevertheless I was quite sure about the accent Τηλεμάχος?since in Modern Greek it is similar (on the υ). Maybe there were some variations but I think the proparoxytone is much more frequent. (I had never seen it the other way.) And if two of your dictionaries put it on the υ, I think we should keep it like this.-- Lefcant 12:27, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
According to Kalós software, it can be either Όδύσσεια (short α) or Όδυσσεία (long α) --Δανιέλ 16:01, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Plot

edit

I am in the process of translating the plot summary from the English page on the Odyssey. This may take a while. Leigh (talk) 14:39, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

A little obscure...

edit

Does anyone know a Greek word for sex-slave? Leigh (talk) 13:40, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am ready to bet that a Greek would invent this word on the spot: ἐρωτόδουλος Yannos 22:33, 28 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some things

edit

I have corrected those mistakes. Homer uses Τηλέμαχος, and εἰςβάλοιεν should of course be εἰσβάλοιεν. Leigh (talk) 18:06, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Another thing: in this article appears the word Ὀδυσσέα several times, is it correct? --Δανιέλ 21:51, 15 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Homeric accusative was Ὀδυσσῆα, but I think (based on the genitive form and his name and my amateur philology) that this form of his name was written as Ὀδυσσέα in Attic Greek. However, I have not actually seen Ὀδυσσέα written in any Greek text. Leigh (talk) 00:50, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
