Incubator talk:Wikivoyage import
Status updates
editWhere can we look to see the current status of the eight projects slated to be imported? --Peter Talk 18:15, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- Also, will lots of pages be imported to this project? I'm running a bot on language versions of Wikivoyage for updating file names. The pages use file names from Wikivoyage's WTS media repository and these are sometimes different from the file names on Commons, and my bot fixes file names so that they match the names on Commons. If lots of pages will be imported here, I will need to request bot status here, and it would be nice to be able to do this as soon as possible. --Stefan2 (talk) 18:18, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'm guessing that at least the pages in the wikis under "No meaningful edits" recently, so yes, you should probably request bot status. –sumone10154(talk) 21:11, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
What's going on?
editWhen more versions will be available? --Stryn (talk) 08:41, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- There appear to be individual request pages for some languages at m:Requests for new languages#Wikivoyage with more information available on each request page. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:17, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- Indeed, in particular we are now waiting for the creation of the Spanish and Portuguese subdomains (bugzilla:42933, bugzilla:42934). --MF-W {a, b} 14:22, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- Spanish and Portuguese have been created in the meantime, what is going to happen with the other language versions? Globe-trotter (talk) 18:47, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- I've updated it. --MF-W {a, b} 22:37, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Jargon
editAnd what exactly is "e. V."? - dcljr (talk) 05:57, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- It's the legal name of the m:Wikivoyage Association (see en:e. V.). Sorry; probably more a Germanism than jargon ;-) --MF-W {a, b} 09:09, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
Jamguides problems
editHi! I just noticed your post about Jamguides being unavailable. There is another potential solution: I believe that Wikivoyage e.V. imported dumps of some projects to their servers long ago. Try editing your hosts file by adding this line:
5.9.71.41 fi.wikivoyage.org hu.wikivoyage.org ja.wikivoyage.org zh.wikivoyage.org
If you use the HTTPS Everywhere extension, then disable it, as Wikivoyage e.V. doesn't support HTTPS. Now point your browser to one of the domain names above. Your browser should ask you to enter a password. I don't have the password myself, but maybe you can get it from some Wikivoyage e.V. guys. If you somehow manage to obtain the password, I believe that you will find a Mediawiki installation with the projects which you can dump using Special:Export.
Important: While the above trick hopefully will give you access to Wikivoyage e.V.'s versions of the projects, it will at the same time remove access to any WMF projects in those languages. You will have to remove the line from the hosts file before you can access WMF projects in those languages. If you use Linux, then you can comment the line out by simply adding a # at the beginning of it.
Some time ago, I downloaded all pages from ar, ca, eo, he, hi and ko from Jamguides. I can send them to you if you want. They are in the "no useful edits recently" category, but maybe it would be useful to import some pages to Incubator anyway. --Stefan2 (talk) 18:44, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll look into this solution (also with the password etc.). fi.wikivoyage.org etc. are currently just redirects to Incubator anyway.
- About the "no useful edits recently": Could you mail them to me? Then I would prepare them for import into Incubator and import them when there are interested contributors. [mfwarburg at googlemail dot com]. --MF-W {a, b} 22:46, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
