Neil Elvis "Nicky" Winmar (born 25 September 1965) is a Noongar maaman who played for St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL), as well as South Fremantle in the West Australian Football League (WAFL).
He was born in Kellerberrin,[1] to Neil and Meryle Winmar. He grew up in the neighbouring Wheatbelt town of Pingelly,[2] and played for the Brookton/Pingelly Football Club in the Upper Great Southern Football League (UGSFL) from an early age. Winmar was subsequently recruited by South Fremantle in the Perth-based WAFL after the club's coach at the time, Mal Brown, saw[3]Winmar playing for Brookton/Pingelly.[4]

In a match for St Kilda against Collingwood in Round 4 of the 1993 season, Mr Winmar was racially abused by members of the Collingwood cheersquad. His response was photographed and has become one of the iconic moments of sport history. See the section "Nicky Winmar" at the Racism in AFL page.
