Dr Michael Wright is a Yuat Nyoongar man. Self-described as a humble Noongar man, his family is from the Moora wer New Norcia area of WA, north of Perth. He has worked as a hospital-based social worker wer as a mental health service manager.

Career edit

In 2010, Michael graduated with a PhD that investigated issues of access to services by Aboriginal families whose lives are affected by mental illness. Michael holds a Fellowship position at Curtin University in the Division of Health Sciences wer is based at the Curtin University National Drug Research Institute. He is also a member of the Mental Health Advisory Council to the WA Mental Health Commission wer a committee member of the Lowitja Institute's workforce program. [1]

Dr Wright works in partnership with Nyoongar (Aboriginal) families, mental health wer drug wer alcohol service providers, The Mental Health Commission, Curtin University wer the Telethon Kids Institute.[2]

Michael is a member of the Mental Health Advisory Council (MHAC), an advisory council to the WA Mental Health Commissioner. He is also a committee member il Program 2: A health workforce to address Aboriginal wer Torres Strait Islander health, keny of three programs of research at the Lowitja Institute.[3]
