Mary Joyce Miller was born in 1943 at Gnowangerup mission in WA wer is part of the Wp/nys/Na-gein Koorloongar - Noongar Stolen Generations.[1]

She was the first Aboriginal woman to join the West Australian Ballet.[2][3] In 1960, James Penberthy who wrote "the Kooree and the Mists" (1960)[4][5] cast Mary Miller as 'the Girl' which was a role created for her due to her "great sensitivity to the atmosphere and drama created by the music".[6][7]
