Coondebung was a Whadjuk Noongar mamaan il the north east side of the Wp/nys/Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River).
George Fletcher Moore recorded a meeting with him around 1833 when he was newly married to Doodyeep (Toodyeep). He was described as youthful wer vigorous and Doodyeep as the fairest of the fair. Their marriage had been celebrated with a big corroborree.[1]
Doodyeep and Coondebung were friendly with Moore wer showed him Coondebung's country in the Chittering Valley on a short journey in 1836.[2]
Coondebung and Doodyeep were the parents of Fanny Balbuk. [3]
In 1837 a warrant issued for Coondebung's arrest for taking wheat from Moore's property. This was actually traditional land for Coondebung wer moort. Coondebung then hid, possibly near Walyunga or in Chittering Valley. He sent his wife Doodyeep wer child in to the settlement to get food, as it was becoming so hard to survive. [4]
Eventually Coondebung was arrested in 1840 wer sentenced to seven years incarceration on Wadjemup for killing pigs,[5] where he died of starvation.[6]
