Bakelup is place in Nyungar boodjar, it's pronounce Ba-kel-up, Ba means a fight or have a conflict. Kel means boomerang, and up means the place of. From this one can interpret it in english as The boomerang fighting place, The place to conflict with boomerangs or The location of boomerang fighting.
Bakelup Creek is a stream in the Great Southern region, and is near to Jerramungup, Needilup and Reynolds Hill.[1] It is in the catchment area of the Gairdner River.
