Bawku Municipal District be one of de fifteen districts wey dey Upper East region, Ghana. Originally dem create am ordinary district assembly for 1988 insyd wey e be known as Bawku East District; e be Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1439 establish am, until president John Agyekum Kufuor ein decree come split de southern part of de district for August 2004 insyd wey dem come create Garu-Tempane District; wey dem elevate de remaining part to municipal district assembly status for de same year insyd wey e come turn Bawku Municipal District. However for 28 June 2012 insyd, dem later come split two parts of de districts so say dem go create Binduri District (wey dey west) den Pusiga District (wey dey east) respectively; dem come retain de remaining part as Bawku Municipal District. De municipality dey de eastern part for Upper East Region insyd wey Bawku be ein capital town.

Agriculture be de dominant occupation for de people wey dey de municipality, dem dey account for about 47.0 percent for de total occupation for de municipality insyd. De major crops wey dem dey grow be millet, sorghum, maize, rice, groundnuts, leafy vegetables, pepper, watermelon, den onion. Livestock like cattle, sheep, goats, donkeys etc. wey dem san dey keep for de district insyd.[1]
