Welcome to Wikimedia Incubator!

At the right there are some important links, and here are some tips and info:

  • If you haven't created a user page yet, please create one with for example Babel templates on it.
  • You can select your interface language in your preferences.
  • If you make articles, templates or categories, don't forget to add a prefix!
  • If your knowledge of English is good, you can help with translating pages to other languages you know, so more people can understand them!
  • If you want to translate the interface, please go to Translatewiki.net and follow their instructions.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them on Incubator:Community Portal.

Chukchi Wikipedia edit

  • Hello SkinOfHooman. I've seen you create new pages on Chukchi Wikipedia, but you have to know that Wikipedia is not a Wiktionary, and pages must have more text, not just one word. Since you do not know the Chukchi language, and there are currently no native speakers who would write in this language, I do not understand what the purpose of your work is. Creating new articles without content is not considered as an activity that will contribute to the approval of the project by the Language Committee, because the approval does not depend on the number of pages, but on the quality of the written articles.--PatrickDubois125 (talk) 17:50, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi @PatrickDubois125. I understand your concerns about my activities on Chukchi Wikipedia, and I would like to apologize for my actions. I indeed do not know much Chukchi, however I had hoped to attract native speakers and people who have a better knowledge of Chukchi. I will make sure to add more content to articles when I make new ones from now on, and I will attempt to make the articles I have already created more in depth. A few years ago, I also worked on Wikipedia in the Chukchi language, hoping that native speakers would appear, but I think that people who know this language do not know about the existence of the Wikimedia incubator. I think that in the ten or more years that the Chukchi Wikipedia has existed in the Incubator, no article has been written by a speaker of this language. Occasionally there are enthusiasts without knowledge of this language who add a few dozen new pages without any text or references, but since this has no effect on the approval of the project, they give up after a while, and articles without information, also known as stubs, accumulate. The Chukchi Wikipedia already has almost 500 pages, 99% of which are stubs, and projects consisting only of such articles are very difficult to get approved by the Language Committee. In the future, if speakers of the Chukchi language ever appear, they will have the difficult task of filling all those pages with content, not taking into account the translation of the entire Wikipedia interface. A good idea would be to promote Chukchi Wikipedia on social networks where there may be speakers of this language, for example VKontakte, but no one has dealt with that yet. Anyway, happy work, but please don't make ten new pages every day.--PatrickDubois125 (talk) 17:43, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Got it. I'll try to find a way to go on VKontakte to look for speakers, and I'll refrain from new stub articles. SkinOfHooman (talk) 18:44, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
