Welcome to Wikimedia Incubator!

This is the Wikimedia Incubator, where potential Wikimedia project wikis in new language versions of Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikinews, Wikiquote and Wiktionary can be arranged, written, tested and proven worthy of being hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation.

Although these test wikis do not yet have their own wiki, they can be used for real like any other Wikimedia project wiki.

New language versions of Wikiversity should go to Beta Wikiversity, and those of Wikisource to Old Wikisource.

You cannot start a whole new project, you may only start a new language edition of an existing project.

How to start a new test wiki? If you are here to start a new language edition of a project, you can find all information on Help:Manual. Please be aware of the local policy. Some important rules: You need a valid language code (explained on Help:Manual), if you haven't, go to Incubator Plus. Starting a test wiki here doesn't mean it will later be automatically accepted by Wikimedia; you need it to be approved by the Language committee first. See Requests for new languages for more information. Please respect the naming conventions for the test language, to help future migrations of pages to an actual wiki project. All of your test pages (including templates and categories) need to be named uniquely (by using a prefix — at least the language code; see above) and consistently. How to contribute to a test wiki on Incubator? If you have knowledge of a language which currently has a test language here, you are strongly encouraged to contribute to that test language. Please give all pages you create a correct prefix. For more information about prefixes, see info about prefixes and tips for working with prefixes.		Current events 24 September 2024: Gorontalo Wikiquote, Komering Wikipedia, Madurese Wiktionary, Mossi Wikipedia and Shan Wikinews have been created. 6 August 2024: West Coast Bajau Wikipedia has been created. 26 July 2024: Czech Wikivoyage has been created. 21 June 2024: Batak Mandailing Wikipedia has been created. 28 May 2024: Central Dusun Wikipedia has been created. 24 April 2024: Betawi Wikipedia, Igala Wikipedia, Wikisource Burmese, Kusaal Wikipedia, Georgian Wikisource, Karakalpak Wiktionary, Malay Wikisource have been created.
