A word for corruption edit

Is "ⲇⲓⲁⲫⲧⲟⲣⲁ" an adequate word for "corruption", or should we use something like "ϥⲁⲥⲁⲧ" instead? Also, it's funny how his home village's name Butyn' has changed to his main opponent's name in Coptic :) --Bloomaround (talk) 11:46, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Both is OK for me, but I would change the words a bit. διαφθορά should yield ⲇⲓⲁⲫⲑⲟⲣⲁ and فساد should give ⲁⲗϥⲁⲥⲁⲧ, because Coptic usually borrows an Arabic word with its article. (There are some exceptions, but these are seldom).
However, there is a Coptic word meaning "corruption" (like in Arabic, it is connected to the meaning rotten): ⲡⲓⲗⲟϥⲗⲉϥ
So, I think in this case we don't need a borrowing from Greek or Arabic. But if you prefer Greek or Arabic, you could also use it. I mean, it also depends a bit on the personal style of the writer. Coptic texts have always shown that even in cases where there is a native word, some writers prefered a loanword (even though i personally try to avoid it) ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 12:14, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Oh I just saw you need something to say "anticorruption". Here we could use ⲟⲩⲃⲉⲗⲟϥⲗⲉϥ, using ⲟⲩⲃⲉ- as a native variant of ⲁⲛⲧⲓ.
Is ⲇⲣⲓⲙⲁ Ancient Greek? I don't know the word, please forgive. ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 12:32, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Oh thank you, i didn't know there is a word for that. I usually prefer Coptic words to Greek or Arabic just like you. Basically i have to say "Anti-Corruption Foundation", but in Russian it's "Фонд борьбы с коррупцией", which can be literally translated as "Foundation of fighting with corruption". Should it be like ⲡⲓⲇⲣⲓ(ⲩ)ⲙⲁ ⲛⲧⲉ ϫⲓⲛⲙⲓϣⲓ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲡⲓⲗⲟϥⲗⲉϥ or it can be made up like in English – ⲟⲩⲃⲉⲗⲟϥⲗⲉϥ ⲡⲓⲇⲣⲓ(ⲩ)ⲙⲁ? I'm not sure if Coptic allows the second option.
ⲓⲇⲣⲓⲙⲁ is ἵδρυμα in Ancient Greek, but i'm not sure if it should be ⲡⲓⲇⲣⲓⲙⲁ or ⲡⲓⲇⲣⲩⲙⲁ in Coptic. --Bloomaround (talk) 10:33, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ok, then I prefer ⲓⲇⲣⲩⲙⲁ here. What about ⲡⲓⲇⲣⲩⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲃⲉⲗⲟϥⲗⲉϥ? ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 11:27, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I like the construction, but shouldn't it be ⲡⲓⲇⲣⲩⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲃⲉⲡⲓⲗⲟϥⲗⲉϥ, with article? Or do we create it like a neologism where ⲟⲩⲃⲉ is the Coptic anti- in compounds, which would not require an article? Ϯⲙⲉⲗⲗⲓⲥⲏⲧ (talk) 14:25, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
If it is used as anti-, it makes more sense without the article, because it doesn't mean "against the corruption", but rather "against-/anti-corruption". ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 16:10, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Oh yes, that makes sense. Ϯⲙⲉⲗⲗⲓⲥⲏⲧ (talk) 16:11, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
