Summary

Description

The pohutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa) in my garden added a bit of contrast to an amazingly bright Milky Way Galaxy. The centre of our galaxy, the Milky Way, is seen towards the top of this image.

Just seconds before this photograph was taken, two very bright and fiery shooting stars passed along the line of the Milky Way.

This photo is included in an article which is located on ScientificAmerican.com and authored by Clara Moskowitz - What if Dark Matter Is Stranger Than We Thought? and explores the theory of complex dark matter. The accompanying video features physicist Dr. Don Lincoln of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
