A typical classroom in a Japanese elementary school. These cubbies in the back of a classroom is the designated area for elementary-school-style backpacks (black for boys, red for girls). Every student (1st and 2nd graders) owns a melodica in a lomon-yellow (or blue) case. The blackboard shows the weekly calendar (October 23-29) and the daily calender (1st-5th periods).
