Africa
"The stringed instruments in this showcase are exemplary of the instruments of Africa and related to instruments in many other countries.  The reed zithers played only on the island of Madagascar is a historical import from South East Asia, similar to the zither used on Bali.  North African influences on Spain are obvious in the displayed rabel."

Other identifications:

• Top, a mvet. The mvet is a stick zither or bar zither and a bowed zither. It is one of the most complicated instruments to play. It has only been mastered by a few virtuosos. Harp and bowed lutes in a variety of shapes and sizes are still widely used.
• Beneath mvet from left: multiple string bowed-lute, gambus, jungga (from the Indonesian island of Sumba), bladder fiddle, kinnor lyre.
• Row above bottom from left: kora harp, instrument resembling sarinda or Ghaychak , African arched harp
• Bottom row far left, a Type A trough zither, probably an "enanga."
• Bottom row, second from left, a raft zither.
• Bottom row, third from left, a Type E trough zither.
• Three instruments on far right, different forms of bamboo tube zithers. The label indicates at least one is a valiha.
