Summary

Description

An approximate version of the state emblem or national coat of arms of Sudan from 1956 to 1970, based on the following two sources:

  1. The International Flag Book in Color by Christian Fogd Pedersen (1971), p. 91.
  2. The 1972 edition of the Petit Larousse encyclopedia/dictionary, p. 1708.

Information on this emblem is somewhat hard to come by, the above two available sources differ in a number of details, and my artistic skills are somewhat limited, so this image undoubtedly differs from the original official Sudanese government specification of the emblem, but all the elements of the emblem should be present.

The Arabic text reads جمهورية السودان jumhuriyat as-Sudan "The Republic of Sudan".

Source The hippo in previous image versions is modified from the PD image File:Hippopotamus_(PSF).png by way of the PD image File:Hippopotamus-PSF-Oksmith.svg, and the stalks with leaves are modified from the wreath in PD image File:Romanian_Army_Flag_-_1902_used_model.svg; otherwise, this is self-made (own work).
