Description

The dam was constructed for the supply of water to the left and right bank pravara canals constructed for the protection from famine of 2,29,000 acres in the Ahmednagar collectorats and named after Mr.Arthur Hill (C.I.E., F.C.H., M.I.C.E.), the chief engineer for irrigation and secretary to government, Bombay, in recognition of the valuable services rendered by him to irrigation in the Bombay Presidency. Catchment area - 47 square miles Capacity of the dam - 10,086 milion cubic feet

The dam is 270 feet high above the river bed and 278 feet above lowest foundation. It's construction was commenced in 1910 and completed in 1926 at a cost of Rs.84,14,188.
